Boston Celtics Down Lakers 87-78 as Scheierman's struggles continue

The Summer League Celtics took their record to 3-1 in Las Vegas with a 87-78 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, July 17. Baylor Scheierman's struggles from the field continued, as he went 2-of-14 for a field goal percentage of 14.3%. Fortunately, the sophomore wing chipped in with 6 assists, 5 rebounds and a steal to ensure he had a productive night. After being ejected in his last outing, Jordan Walsh was back to impressing for Matt Reynolds' roster. He shot 6-of-11 from the field, good for 17 points along with 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Walsh has been one of the Celtics' best players out in Vegas. Another player who continues to impress is rookie Hugo Gonzalez, he put in another all-action display, with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. He's already showing signs of being ready for an NBA rotation. With Charles Bassey no longer on the roster, after his three-game deal came to an end, the Celtics relied on Amari Williams (8 points, 6 rebounds) and Kenny Lofton Jr. (12 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists) to anchor the middle of the floor. Max Shulga struggled running the point guard position, and Miles Norris had a strong showing off the bench, going 5-for-11 from the field. Following their win, the Celtics will play one more game in Vegas. They will face the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, July 20. Watch the "Taylor Talks Celtics" podcast on: YouTube: Website:

What have we learned from the Boston Celtics first week of Summer League?

The Boston Celtics are 2-1 over the opening week of Las Vegas Summer League. Jordan Walsh and Baylor Scheierman headline the Sin City Celtics roster, with recently acquired rookies Max Shulga, Amari Williams and Hugo Gonzalez also part of the roster. However, it's been the late addition of Charles Bassey who has stolen the show with some high-level performances. Given the Celtics' position as a re-tooling roster, there are some additional incentives to impress while in Las Vegas. Joe Mazzulla has gaps that need to be filled in his rotation. As such, we're seeing some highly competitive performances from multiple members of Matt Reynolds' roster. Unfortunately for Walsh, that competitive spirit led him to being ejected against the Miami Heat on Monday, July 14. In a July 15 episode of the "Taylor Talks Celtics" podcast, hosts Adam Taylor and Billy Calabrese discussed the Celtics Summer League performances so far, dissecting which players have stood out, who has underwhelmed and what they're hoping to see over the final few contests. Celtics' Joe Mazzulla had hilarious reaction to Jordan Walsh Summer League ejection

Third-year Boston Celtics combo forward Jordan Walsh was in the midst of a pretty efficient run in the second quarter of a Summer League clash against the Miami Heat when he got a pair of quick technical fouls and saw himself ejected from the contest. The 6-foot-7 Arkansas product couldn't quite crack head coach Joe Mazzulla's rotation on the 61-21 Celtics in 2024-25. In the 52 games he did play, he was generally on the floor for 7.8 mop-up minutes per. In those contests, Walsh averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 boards. Advertisement Now, in his third straight Summer League appearance, Walsh is looking to make waves. Unfortunately, his intensity was dialed up a bit high early, when he got into the aforementioned fracas with Heat forward Pelle Larsson. As Noa Dalzell of SB Nation indicates, the battle happened just in front of incoming majority owner Bill Chisholm and team president Brad Stevens. The Heat went on to eke out a narrow 100-96 victory with Walsh on the shelf in the game's second half. In just 10:06 of action, Walsh scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor (1-of-2 from distance) and 2-of-2 shooting from the foul line, pulled down three rebounds, and swiped two steals, while notching a plus-5 plus-minus. Advertisement After the contest, Walsh revealed that he apologized to Stevens for the incident, per Dalzell. 'That's not really me," Walsh said. "I'm more of a professional than that, more mature than that, so I just wanted to make sure that he knew that he knew that this wasn't gonna be a continuous thing." Mazzulla, on the other hand, seemed to revel in Walsh's intensity from afar (he's not coaching in Summer League). Mazzulla texted Walsh after the ejection to indicate his enthusiasm for the moment. 'He told me he loved it," Walsh said. "Joe was hype.' MORE NEWS:Rookie Hugo Gonzalez reveals two favorite Celtics growing up
