Dean Kremer tosses seven scoreless innings as Orioles down Marlins

July 12 - Baltimore starter Dean Kremer held the visiting Miami Marlins to three singles across seven shutout innings as the Orioles won 5-2 in Friday night's series opener. Kremer (8-7) walked one and struck out seven in a 99-pitch outing. He matched last year's win total. Yennier Cano worked a scoreless eighth, though Baltimore was denied a third shutout in less than a month in the ninth. Jordan Westburg and Ramon Laureano both rapped three hits, and Ryan O'Hearn had two hits. The trio accounted for all of Baltimore's runs batted in. The Orioles have won six of their last seven games, and they're 3-1 on the homestand. The Marlins have their first three-game losing streak in more than a month after losing the previous two days in Cincinnati. Marlins starter Edward Cabrera (3-4) gave up four runs on eight hits in four innings. He struck out six without a walk. Otto Lopez hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Andrew Kittredge. Lopez, Connor Norby, and ex-Oriole Kyle Stowers had Miami's hits off Kremer. Jackson Holliday led off the Baltimore first with a double and scored on Westburg's single. O'Hearn's double brought in the next run. O'Hearn singled in the next run in the third inning before Laureano knocked in Gunnar Henderson. Tyler Phillips worked two scoreless innings out of Miami's bullpen. Then Laureano's two-out single in the seventh made it 5-0. --Field Level Media

Orioles national anthem speaker goes viral after interesting rendition of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner'

Baltimore Orioles fans received an interesting rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before sweeping the New York Mets in a double-header on Thursday night, but apparently not everyone was impressed with the autotuned version. Dan Deacon, the Baltimore-based recording artist known for his "innovative electronic music," welcomed fans with just that before the Orioles took care of the Mets 3-1 in Game 1 and 7-3 in Game 2. "I think the Orioles have officially hit rock bottom," one person wrote in a post on X. The video of Deacon's performance received over 1.2 million views, and it left fans at home and in the stands a bit confused. "I'm like alternating in between 'what is this' and 'I'm feeling it,'" one person wrote on X. "What's his claim to fame ?…it's not singing…," another added. But fans on Deacon's Instagram, which has over 47,000 followers, seemed to appreciate his unique performance. "Dan sings the anthem and the O's sweep the double header against one of the best teams in the league. Coincidence? I think not," one person wrote. "100% this is why the Os won the game," another added. Jordan Westburg homered and drove in three runs while Alex Jackson doubled twice and scored two runs in his Baltimore debut to help the Orioles win for the fifth time in six games. Meanwhile, the Mets fell 1.5 games behind first-place Philadelphia in the NL East after sinking to 14-16 in interleague play. Sugano Earns His 7th Win; Westburg Powers Orioles Past Mets 7-3 for Doubleheader Sweep

BALTIMORE (AP) — Jordan Westburg homered and drove in three runs as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Mets 7-3 on Thursday to sweep a doubleheader. Alex Jackson doubled twice and scored two runs in his Baltimore debut to help the Orioles win for the fifth time in six games. They took both ends of a twinbill for the first time since June 2016 against Tampa Bay at home. In the opener, Gunnar Henderson hit a two-run drive in the eighth inning for his first career pinch-hit homer, sending Baltimore to a 3-1 victory. The split-admission doubleheader was scheduled to make up Wednesday night's rainout. In the nightcap, Colton Cowser put the Orioles ahead for good with an RBI single off reliever Justin Hagenman (0-1) during a two-run fifth. Baltimore also scored on groundouts by Jackson Holliday and Ramon Laureano, and a fielding error by third baseman Brett Baty. Tomoyuki Sugano (7-5) allowed three runs over six innings, yielding two of his four hits against the Mets' first two batters, Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor. Juan Soto followed with an RBI groundout and Pete Alonso had a sacrifice fly. Baty singled in the other Mets run in the third, New York's only hit in eight at-bats with runners in scoring position. Key moment After allowing 13 runs in his previous two starts, Sugano fell behind right away. But he limited the damage to two runs in the first inning and settled in from there. Key stat The Mets fell 1 1/2 games behind first-place Philadelphia in the NL East after sinking to 14-16 in interleague play, compared to their 39-25 record against NL opponents. Up next Mets: RHP Kodai Senga (7-3, 1.47 ERA) comes off the injured list Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Kansas City. Orioles: Continue a six-game homestand Friday with the first of three against Miami. They had yet to announce any probable starters for the series, but right-hander Dean Kremer (7-7, 4.53 ERA) would be on turn.
