Al-Hilal fly the flag for Asia in Club World Cup

NASHVILLE, Tennessee: Al-Hilal will be the sole representatives from Asia in the knockout stages of football's glittering Club World Cup in the US. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport The Riyadh club held Real Madrid to a draw in their opening match and won a decisive clash with Pachuca of Mexico in their last group-stage game, to ensure finishing second behind the Spanish giants and progressing to the last 16 of the tournament. All but three of the teams through to the final stages are from Europe and South America. The exceptions are Al-Hilal, Monterrey from Mexico, and Inter Miami, where Lionel Messi leads a side filled with former Barcelona stalwarts. Egypt's Al-Ahly and Tunisia's Esperance brought plenty of fans to create atmosphere in the large US stadiums, but went home disappointed. 'The moment you drop a little bit your level against this quality of opponents, you pay a price,' Al-Ahly coach Jose Riveiro said. 'But the players had the opportunity to showcase their talent and a fantastic platform to do it. It's a special occasion, for sure.'

Additionally, Mhlongo believes that Dr Irvin Khoza is well-versed in finding new coaches for the club. 'Dr. Irvin Khoza has always managed to come up with surprises over the years. I trust his judgement; they've been in this game for a long time,' Mhlongo told KickOff . 'It's not for us to speculate. When they brought Jose Riveiro here, nobody knew about him, and look how well he did. Dr. Khoza has vast experience in bringing coaches here, so perhaps there's something the chairman saw in the new coach. 'It was relatively easy for the chairman to make a decision on the new coach since he was already in the country. Maybe they appreciated what he did for Marumo Gallants last season. Orlando Pirates reveal contract details of new coach Ouaddou

Orlando Pirates have officially appointed Abdeslam Ouaddou as their new head coach, turning the page on a successful era under Jose Riveiro. The Buccaneers have backed the French-Moroccan mentor with a two-year contract, which runs until June 2027. This bold move came after negotiations with Rulani Mokwena collapsed due to unresolved stumbling blocks. Despite intense speculation linking Mokwena with a sensational return, Pirates opted for Ouaddou instead, catching many supporters off guard. The club's decision to appoint Ouaddou follows the end of a triumphant spell under Jose Riveiro. During his three-year tenure, Riveiro guided Orlando Pirates to five major titles, including a hat-trick of MTN8 trophies and back-to-back Nedbank Cup victories. His departure left big boots to fill, and the Pirates hierarchy believe Ouaddou is the right man to continue the winning legacy. Ouaddou arrives at the Soweto giants with a clear mandate. Maintain and build on the success of the Riveiro era. According to information, the 46-year-old coach has signed a contract valid until June 2027. He will kick off his tenure by leading the team into their upcoming pre-season camp in Spain. Where preparations for the new campaign are set to begin in earnest. Ouaddou made his entry into South African football earlier this year when he joined Marumo Gallants in March. Tasked with steering the club clear of relegation, he managed to secure five wins, four draws, and only three losses in 12 matches across all competitions. He led Gallants to a respectable 10th-place finish, ending the season with 32 points after 28 games. His performance quickly drew interest from various clubs. Is the length of contract enough to win a league title for Orlando Pirates? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Monnapule Saleng's future with Pirates [video]

Orlando Pirates have named Jose Riveiro's successor (Abdeslam Ouaddou), which could be the turning point in Monnapule Saleng's future at the club. Yes, an offseason exit still seems likely for the 27-year-old, but what if the new gaffer wants him to stay? A new face with fresh reasoning and ideologies could be the ultimate peacemaker between the parties. Saleng hasn't featured since December 7, following salary demands Orlando Pirates was unwilling to meet. A six-month exile has since ensued. Read the full version of the ' Orlando Pirates to revive Saleng relationship amid Mofokeng exit' article. The winger was spotted in training towards the end of the season but failed to make any matchday squads under Jose Riveiro. Although he didn't make the team, just turning up showed some attempt to rekindle the relationship, which could be enhanced if Ouaddou wishes to keep him. There's much speculation surrounding Orlando Pirates golden boy Relebohile Mofokeng, who has several giants after his services, including Al Ahly and Zamalek FC. Looking for quick updates? Jose Riveiro's Al Ahly future in doubt after poor Club World Cup showing

Fighting to save his job already? Former Orlando Pirates Jose Riveiro is reportedly fighting to save his job at Al Ahly after the club were eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup. Photo: Angela Weiss/AFP New Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro appears to be in trouble already after the club's poor showing in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. According to reports from Egypt, the former Pirates boss has been summoned to a meeting with chairman Mahmoud El Khatib to explain the team's poor performance in the United States. After holding Lionel Messi's Inter Miami to a goalless draw in the tournament opener two weeks ago, the Egyptian giants followed that up with a 2-0 loss to Palmeiras and a 4-4 draw against FC Porto. As a result, they finished bottom of Group A with just two points and were eliminated. As a result of the early elimination, Riveiro and sporting director Mohamed Youssef will meet with the chairman when they land back in Egypt, according to a YSScores report.
