Gaza Government Media Office: EU complicit politically & morally in Israeli genocide

Gaza – Saba: The Government Media Office in Gaza stated on Friday that the European Union (EU) is politically and morally complicit in the genocide committed by the "Israeli enemy" authorities against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Government Media Office expressed shock and outrage at the official European stance, as voiced by representatives during the recent EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels. It stated that the official European position reflects the EU's moral and political failure in the face of the genocide carried out by the Israeli enemy authorities in Gaza for 650 consecutive days. The Media Office referenced former EU High Representative Josep Borrell's remarks, in which he confirmed that "Europe has decided not to punish Israel and to allow the genocide to continue relentlessly," describing it as damning testimony from within the European institution itself, exposing the extent of Western complicity. "The EU has crossed all red lines as it watches 2.4 million Palestinian civilians being slaughtered, starved, and mercilessly displaced without activating a single accountability mechanism—even though the Israeli enemy authorities are blatantly violating the human rights clause in the EU partnership agreement," it added. "Merely 'monitoring closely' is a betrayal of the humanitarian values Europe has long championed, and the absence of punitive measures is a green light for the ongoing massacres of civilians with explicit European approval," the statement continued. The Gaza Government Media Office held the EU fully responsible, both politically and morally, for this ongoing crime. It called on the bloc to end its hypocrisy, complicity, and double standards, urging immediate and concrete action to suspend the partnership agreement, hold the Israeli enemy accountable for its crimes, and bring Israeli war criminals to justice. Borrell: The European Union Allowed the Continuation of Genocide in Gaza

DaysofPal—Josep Borrell, the former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, criticized on Wednesday the EU foreign ministers for their failure to take any action to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its human rights violations in the Gaza Strip. Regarding the outcome of the ministers' meeting on Tuesday in Brussels, Borrell stated in a post on the platform X that this would allow Israel's genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza to continue 'relentlessly.' Borrell accused the European Union of failing to decide on Israel's violation of the human rights clause in the partnership agreement between them. He said: 'Europe has decided not to punish the Israeli occupation for the ongoing war crimes and to allow the genocide in Gaza to continue relentlessly.' Despite the EU's review of the partnership agreement with the Israeli occupation and its confirmation that Tel Aviv violates human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, no sanctions were imposed during the foreign ministers' meeting on Tuesday. Former EU Foreign Policy Chief Slams Bloc's Failure To Act On Israel's Human Rights Violations

BRUSSELS, July 16 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The European Council missed its chance this week to do something to stop Israel's 'war crimes' and genocide in Gaza, according to a former EU foreign policy chief, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. "@EUCouncil failed yesterday to take a decision on Israel's violation of the Association Agreement's Human Rights clause. But this is in itself a decision: not to punish Israel's continued war crimes and allow the genocide in Gaza to continue unabated," Josep Borrell wrote on X on Wednesday. The EU-Israel Association Agreement, which governs political and economic ties between the two parties, includes a binding clause requiring respect for human rights and democratic principles. Failure to comply with this clause can lead to sanctions or suspension of the agreement. bootstrap slideshow EU foreign ministers met on Monday and Tuesday to discuss growing concerns over Israel's attacks in Gaza, amid mounting civilian casualties and international calls for accountability. However, member states were unable to reach a consensus, resulting in no formal decision to suspend the agreement or impose sanctions. Borrell, who concluded his term as the EU's top diplomat last year, has been a vocal critic of Israel's attacks and has previously called for a review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which gives Tel Aviv preferential trade terms. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since late October 2023, killing over 58,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages and the spread of diseases. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

Why Palestinians in Gaza are protesting with photos of Israeli children killed by Hamas

Gaza Youth Committee founder Rami Aman says many people in Gaza do not support Hamas, only want peace and mourn for the Israeli children who have been killed, as well as their own Sign up to our daily newsletter – Regular news stories and round-ups from around Scotland direct to your inbox Sign up Thank you for signing up! We love others living their lives too and most people in Gaza do not support Hamas, despite its claims that it has the backing of the people and that it constitutes the majority. This is the wrong image. People have been demonstrating against Hamas's rule for many years. We also appreciate receiving Scotland's love and support for the Palestinians, some of whom are football fans who follow the derby matches between Glasgow Rangers and Celtic. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad For years, the Israeli army has been killing thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, saying this is necessary to eliminate Hamas. However, there have been credible claims – from people like the former European Union foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell – that Benjamin Netanyahu's government actually provided funding for Hamas, helping to build its headquarters and offices and purchasing everything necessary to ensure its rule. Netanyahu needed Hamas to win the support of Israeli voters under the pretext of protecting them from danger. His government is always trying to show the people in Gaza as criminals who dream all the time of killing Jews and teach our children nothing but hatred. This is not true. Hatred is born of wars and killing only creates killing. Hamas began to lose the sympathy of the people in Gaza years ago, but the media does not show that. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The Israeli army has now killed more than 60,000 people in Gaza, wounded hundreds of thousands, and destroyed our future, but it will not be able to eliminate our humanity and our rights. Amid the ongoing devastation in Gaza, the Gaza Youth Committee launched a courageous and compassionate campaign called 'We Live Together, We Die Together', signalling a bold departure from entrenched narratives of division. This initiative extends heartfelt messages of solidarity to all Israelis, regardless of faith or background. We mourn with every Jewish, Christian, and Muslim family that has lost a child in this war. Our pain does not blind us to the suffering of others, and we are against the killing of children, whether Palestinian or Israeli. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Despite living under siege, enduring hunger, death, and displacement, the youth of Gaza remain steadfast in their belief in peace. We have not turned away from our responsibility to speak for peace, even when the world turns away from us. We at the Gaza Youth Committee appreciate everyone who carries pictures of our children and commemorates them and does not consider them to be just numbers. We saw many Israelis holding photographs of Palestinian children killed in the war. So we decided to tell them that we are also with you, that we want to end the war and stand in solidarity with every family that lost a child by protesting in Gaza with pictures of Israeli children, like Ariel Bibas, four, and his nine-month-old brother, Kfir, killed by Hamas. In May 2018, 50 of our committee members gathered at Gaza's eastern border and released 150 white doves, each carrying a message of peace for Israelis. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad One key organizer, who participated in that event, has since lost three children and eight family members in an Israeli airstrike. Still, he has not lost faith in the transformative power of reconciliation and human dignity. We at the Gaza Youth Committee have always been trying to network school students in Gaza with others in European schools so that people there know the truth about their lives. Some people believe we are superheroes, others that we are terrorists. The majority do not seem to believe we are ordinary people. We always try to convey Gaza's true message and call on people in other countries not to believe those in the Israeli media who want to make us appear as terrorists. We held many meetings between the Palestinians in Gaza and the Israelis, to the point that the Hamas government arrested me more than once. In 2020, I was jailed for six-and-a-half months after holding a meeting between more than 300 Israelis and ten people from Gaza. It is important that these messages come out of Gaza, carried by brave young men who declare their commitment to peace on behalf of the large number of Palestinians who completely reject all the killing because they are the people who suffer most through the loss of their dearest children. People who want to leave in search of a new life and those stranded outside Gaza who want to return to what remains of their homes should be allowed to do so. We also need new Palestinian elections. We in the Gaza Youth Committee consider ourselves partners with every person who wants to end the war, release the hostages, and open a political path to peace in all Palestinian territories. We do not want anyone to be the next victim; we want everyone to be the next hope.

Gaza crisis demands a return to political reality

As efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza war continue, the latest pronouncement from Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz that the country's military work on a proposal to 'concentrate' thousands of the enclave's remaining Palestinians in a so-called humanitarian city serves only to shine more light on the daily death and destruction taking place in Palestine. At a time when Palestinians in Gaza are being killed at aid distribution points or bombed from the air, the idea that forcibly displacing them and cornering them could lead to an improvement in their lives is a disturbing one. This plan is just the latest in a series of mendacious and unrealistic proposals for Gaza that waste time and diplomatic energy that could be better spent producing genuine solutions. In fact, a similarly incongruous proposal came from Mr Katz in January last year. Presented to 27 EU foreign ministers during a meeting in Brussels to discuss the war, Mr Katz showed the European representatives videos of an artificial island to be built off the Gazan coast. The EU's High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, later told a news briefing that 'the minister could have made better use of his time and focus on the security of his country, bearing in mind the high number of deaths in Gaza'. The stakes for Palestine, the Middle East and the Israeli public are much too high for further timewasting or disruptive proposals that are clearly unworkable and unacceptable. In Gaza itself, amid the suffering of the Palestinian civilians there, some 50 Israeli hostages are still being held after being kidnapped during the brutal Hamas -led attacks of October 7, 2023. The idea that the military responsible for tens of thousands of civilian deaths can be trusted to guard any kind of humanitarian operation is unworkable Sadly, however, more speculative contributions are coming to light; experts have been alarmed by reports that an American official, quoted anonymously in US news outlet The Hill, said that the Middle East's borders are 'illusory', dismissing the sovereignty of a number of nation states. It is time to come back to political reality. The overwhelming majority of the international community agree on the need to end the war in Gaza, to get humanitarian aid to its suffering inhabitants, to stop the creeping Israeli annexation of the West Bank and to move from merely 'managing' the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to bringing it to a negotiated end. The possibility of peace in the region – that includes all the countries of the Middle East – cannot be met without a path to Palestinian statehood, with peace and security for Palestinians and Israelis. Reconvening the high-level UN conference on the two-state solution that was postponed by the Iran-Israel war would be a good place to start. No-one should object to good-faith proposals or fresh thinking about how to resolve this conflict's many related aspects, such as reaching a ceasefire, releasing Palestinians held in Israeli detention, rebuilding Gaza and encouraging consensus among Palestinian factions so they can eventually deliver good governance for their people. But proposals such as an Israeli-run 'humanitarian city' amid the ashes of Gaza do not offer real solutions nor serve regional peace.
