2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: OLB Josh Sweat
We will preview every player on the Cardinals roster leading up to training camp. This is about OLB Josh Sweat. The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team. Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook. Next up is Edge Josh Sweat. Josh Sweat background, 2024 season A fourth-round pick from Florida State by the Eagles in 2018, Sweat was signed as an unrestricted free agent on March 14 following a standout performance in the Super Bowl win over the Chiefs. During the 2024 regular season, he played 16 games with 15 starts and had 41 tackles (27 solo, nine for loss) and added 8.0 sacks and two passes defensed. In three playoff games prior to the Super Bowl, Sweat totaled four tackles (one solo, one for loss) and no sacks. In the Super Bowl, he had 2.5 sacks, three quarterback hits and six tackles (two solo, two for loss). Josh Sweat 2025 contract details, cap hit That production in the Super Bowl catapulted him to a four-year contract (plus one void year) worth $76.4 million with $38 million fully guaranteed, including a signing bonus of $18.5 million. His 2025 base salary is a guaranteed $2.5 million and Sweat's salary-cap charge is $7.3 million. 2025 questions, roster outlook The expectations are through the roof for Sweat to be a major contributor to the Cardinals' pass rush. He has had some knee issues in his seven-year career, so the question is whether he can achieve consistency from game-to-game and down-to down. He has had only one double-digit sack season with 11.0 in 2022. Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. Arizona Cardinals to face 6 top-10 pass rushers in 2025
The Cardinals do not have any edge rushers in ESPN's top 10 (no surprise) but will face many of them as opponents. As NFL training camp approaches for most NFL teams (the Los Angeles Chargers reported on Saturday), sites continue to publish lists, rankings and predictions. ESPN has been revealing player rankings at different positions, but with a twist. They are based on the votes of coaches, scouts and executives. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler revealed the rankings for the edge rushers — the top 10 and four honorable mentions. While the Cardinals upgraded the position group this offseason with Josh Sweat, it is no surprise that no Cardinals players even get honorable mention. Sweat is good but he has never been mentioned as a top-10 EDGE. The Cardinals do, though, face a few of them. NFL edge rusher rankings: Which do the Cardinals face in 2025? The Cardinals will face six of the top 10, playing two in one game, while another two players are in the NFC West and will see the Cardinals twice. The Cardinals have good tackles in Paris Johnson and Jonah Williams, but they will be tested in 2025. In fact, they will have top pass rushers in four of their final five games of the season. Eagles Super Bowl hero finally cracks NFL's Top 100 Players of 2025 ranking
One of the highlights of every offseason is the NFL's Top 100 Players list for 2025. Annually, we debate the rankings. Fans and the media debate the snubs and exclusions, especially if those exclusions involve players from the Philadelphia Eagles' roster. However, although these types of lists are subjective, this one is different. The game's players vote on this one. It's an indication of how they view and respect one another. Tyreek Hill secured the top position in 2024. Can you see what we mean? As we progress through this process, it will be exciting to see how many players from the Eagles are mentioned. After five players, a former star from Philadelphia makes his debut. Josh Sweat lands at 95 on the NFL Top 100 Players ranking. As expected, Josh Sweat landed a massive payday as he joins his former defensive coordinator, Jonathan Gannon, with the Arizona Cardinals. If not for a Jalen Hurts bomb to DeVonta Smith during the second half of the Super Bowl, Sweat may have been named the game's Most Valuable Player. As we turned the page from June to July, he landed 95th on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2025 ranking. This one is well deserved. After being drafted 130th overall, during Round 4 of the 2018 NFL Draft, he collected 237 tackles, 43 sacks, and a pick-six in 104 regular-season games with 64 starts. In nine career postseason games, he added 21 total tackles, five sacks, and a forced fumble. He leaves the City of Brotherly Love as a fan favorite and a Super Bowl hero, immortalized. Advertisement He now takes his talents to the desert to play for a former Eagles assistant whose organization didn't vote in favor of keeping the tush push as a legal play. That, however, is another story for another day. This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: Eagles Super Bowl hero cracks NFL's Top 100 Players of 2025 ranking

Arizona Cardinals DC Nick Rallis doesn't rave about Josh Sweat's pass-rush skills first
The Arizona Cardinals' biggest offseason addition in free agency was outside linebacker Josh Sweat, signing him to a four-year, $76.4 million deal. It was dubbed as the move to help fix the Cardinals' paltry pass rush. However, defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, who also was Sweat's position coach with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021-2022, Sweat's two best NFL seasons, did not cite his ability to rush the passer first when he was asked about him. Advertisement What did he note first? "I love Sweaty," he said. "He's a phenomenal person, phenomenal teammate, but the player, he's gonna bring violence in the run game, and that's ever since I've been with him. "I put on the tape when we got to Philly of the year before and I said, 'Holy cow, this guy can set an edge.'" Yes, the Cardinals need better pass rushing. However, they were a bad against the run. Fellow outside linebacker Zaven Collins, who has become a great run defender, now is joined by Sweat, about whom Rallis raved. But Sweat gives the Cardinals more. Advertisement "On top of that, he can get after the passer," Rallis said. "So that's ultimately what you want out of that position. You want a guy who collapses edges in the run game and gets after the passer in the pass game. So I'm excited to link back up with him."
