"Singer 2025" slammed for Joyce Cheng's injury
30 Jun - The team of "Singer 2025" found themselves drawing the ire of Joyce Cheng's fans after an incident left the singer unable to make her stage comeback. The Hong Kong singer and daughter of the late Lydia Shum was originally scheduled to make her comeback on the reality singing competition after two years of hiatus. However, two hours before the show, the programme announced that Joyce has decided to withdraw due to a previous injury. It was revealed that the singer was accidentally injured during the filming of the promotional clip for the show due to improper handling of the lighting equipment by the staff. Although she originally stated that she would continue to perform if her physical condition permits it, Joyce was unable to do so as the pain on her shoulders, neck and ears had yet to subside. In response to the announcement, netizens angrily slammed the show for not being extra careful. One netizen wrote, "You really are a shoddy team, aren't you?" while another posted, "This is too much. Do you think it's easy for people to come to your show?" Meanwhile, upon the news that Joyce might return for a second round of the competition if her condition gets better, netizens responded, "Don't do it. There will be no next session. There are safety issues." Another posted, "What singer would dare come to your show next time?" (Photo Source: Joyce Fanclub Weibo)

AGA denies leaving Universal Music to avoid Joyce Cheng
5 Jun - AGA has recently dismissed the notion that she is leaving Universal Music so not to compete with Joyce Cheng, whom reportedly will be signing to the record label. The singer, who spoke to the media after winning Outstanding Pop Singer Award at the 46th Top Ten Chinese Golden Songs Awards recently, said that she will not renew her contract with the label after it expires this month, ending their 12-year partnership. "I am grateful to the company and this has nothing to do with Joyce. Like many people, I miss Joyce Cheng's music very much. I believe everyone wants to see her make more music," she said. AGA also added that Universal did not contact her about the renewal of the contract, and she has no plans to switch to other companies. However, she will continue to work hard to make many good songs and hope to perform for fans. Asked if she has plans to marry fiance Cheng Tsz Bong this year, AGA said, "It depends on fate. I will go to Australia to accompany my parents first, because they are old and both of them need surgery. I want to spend more time with my parents. My fiance will stay in Hong Kong for work and will not come with me." (Photo Source: AGA IG, am730, Mingpao)

Joyce Cheng rumoured to sign with Universal Music
19 May - While Joyce Cheng continues to keep mum about her next project, a new rumour has emerged that she is inking a deal with Universal Music. As reported on Mingpao, sources are claiming that the singer is set to make her music comeback by signing with the record label, which houses superstars like Jacky Cheung and Eason Chan. The singer reportedly will be releasing new songs in June. Joyce has already sparked comeback rumours recently by wiping out all posts from her Instagram account. She was also reported to have ended her contract with Media Asia Music. While the singer released no statement regarding the end of her contract, Media Asia responded by sending their "blessings to Joyce", confirming that the two parties have parted ways. Joyce has been MIA since her concert in March 2023, appearing only to promote her voice acting work for Disney's "Wish" in late 2023 and making a guest appearance in Alfred Hui's music video last year. Joyce Cheng sparks speculations by clearing IG account
29 Apr - Joyce Cheng has everybody speculating after she decided to remove all posts from her Instagram account. The singer, who has been on hiatus from showbiz for a while now, rarely updated her social media platforms or attend public events since her Hong Kong Coliseum concert in March 2023. However, she went a step further by clearing her Instagram account of all posts, leaving the account bare. Nonetheless, her followers and following count remain the same. It is said that Joyce's contract with her agency Media Asia has just expired, so it is suspected that she is preparing to start over from scratch. There had been many rumours about Joyce's disappearance from public view. Some said that the singer, who is the sole daughter of the late Lydia Shum, was battling depression, while others speculated that Joyce was working on making a massive comeback. Her last work was guest starring in the music video for Alfred Hui's song and lending her voice for the Hong Kong dub of Disney's "Wish". DJ Pitar Leung revealed back in November that he had ran into Joyce in Hong Kong and that they hugged after not seeing each other for a long time. "Joyce Cheng was in a good state at the time, and I immediately asked her if she wanted me to welcome her comeback? Although it was a joke, Joyce replied, 'Just wait for me to arrange the time'!" he said. (Photo Source: HK01, MPWeekly)

Late HK star Lydia Sum's daughter Joyce Cheng wipes clean social media accounts
There are no posts on the Instagram account of Hong Kong singer Joyce Cheng. Photo: Joyce Cheng/Facebook, The Straits Times/Asia News Network Hong Kong singer Joyce Cheng, who has been largely out of the public eye for two years, has wiped clean her social media accounts. Fans noticed on April 24 that all the posts on the 37-year-old's Instagram account have been deleted. The vlogs on her YouTube channel were also removed, but a few songs remain on the channel. Her Facebook page is unaffected for now. There was speculation in the Hong Kong media that Cheng is planning a comeback with her latest moves. Her profile is still on the website of Hong Kong entertainment group Media Asia. Cheng, daughter of veteran Hong Kong actor Adam Cheng and late actress-host Lydia Sum, has not performed in public since her concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum in March 2023. There was talk that the singer was suffering from depression as she has not updated her Instagram account since April 2023. Her manager Sandy Lamb told Hong Kong media outlet HK01 in June that year that the singer was unwell, without giving further details. In November 2023, Cheng appeared in the music video for the song De-Union, which was performed by her good friend, singer Alfred Hui. She also voiced the lead character Asha of the Cantonese version of Disney animated movie Wish and performed its theme song. The music fantasy film was released in Hong Kong in December 2023. Cheng met Hong Kong music producer Florence Chan during Chinese New Year in late January. Chan later posted on social media a video of the celebrities who had visited her. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
