Capcom shares first footage of Resident Evil mobile spinoff
Capcom just shared a lengthy trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil Survival Unit . This is a mobile game, but not a remake of a pre-existing title . The original game includes a heavy emphasis on strategy and stars franchise heavy-hitters like Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine. If you're wondering how these protagonists can exist together in the same game, it's all due to the magic of the multiverse. It's set in a parallel universe "that builds upon the Resident Evil world while diverging from the original series." This also opens up the door for other unannounced characters to show up. This is a strategy game through-and-through, with base-building mechanics and real-time battles "against powerful creatures inspired by the Resident Evil universe." Each character has unique abilities and some can interact with the environment, adding another level of strategic immersion. The iconic Weapons Merchant also shows up to arm players up before duking it out. It's being developed by Joycity, the company behind 3on3 FreeStyle Rebound , and Aniplex, which made the forthcoming Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 . Both companies are reportedly working "in close collaboration" with Capcom. Resident Evil Survival Unit will be released later in the year , though wish lists are open right now . It's a free-to-play title with in-game purchases. The game could tide folks over while waiting for Resident Evil Requiem , which was announced last month at SGF 25 . This is the next mainline franchise title, so it's technically Resident Evil 9 . It features a new protagonist and the ability to swap between first-person and third-person gameplay perspectives. It comes out on February 27, 2026. If you buy something through a link in this article, we may earn commission.

'Resident Evil Survival Unit' Is An RTS Mobile Spin-Off
There's a new Resident Evil game in the works, just probably not what most are expecting. Korean mobile gaming developer Joycity Corporation has announced Resident Evil Survival Unit , a real-time strategy (RTS) mobile spin-off based on the iconic survival horror franchise. Resident Evil 2 (2019) Joycity, which previously made other licensed RTS mobile spin-offs such as 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War , will co-develop the upcoming title with Japanese entertainment company Aniplex, with the game being made in 'close collaboration with Capcom to ensure authenticity and quality', according to its press release. ' Resident Evil: Survival Unit offers a fresh take on the beloved franchise, reimagining the survival horror universe as a real-time strategy experience optimised for mobile platforms, iOS and Android,' read the release, 'The game is designed to appeal to both longtime fans and new players.' A full reveal of the mobile game will take place this week, but for now, fans have their first clue of the game's setting via an artwork accompanying the game's logo. The image depicts what seems to be a road leading into town during a heavy thunderstorm, with a billboard on the roadside for the notorious Umbrella Corporation, featuring a happy couple with the words 'Our Business is life itself…' With the presence of Umbrella, this could hint at the game being set in Raccoon City, as the evil corporation had a significant presence in the city before its eventual downfall. In this vein, it won't be surprising if the title featured familiar faces such as a young Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, or even Hunk. As to how the mobile game will adapt the survival horror shooting format into an RTS remains to be seen, with more details being revealed during an online showcase set to broadcast on YouTube on 10 July 2025. Resident Evil Survival Unit will launch for iOS and Android across North America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Asia. New Resident Evil strategy game announced – but there's a catch
A new Resident Evil game is set to be revealed in a livestream next week, but it's not what anyone expected. Between the mainline entries and a string of excellent remakes, Capcom has been on a roll lately with Resident Evil, the mistakes of Resident Evil 6 far behind them. The developer recently unveiled the ninth mainline instalment, entitled Resident Evil Requiem, at Summer Game Fest. The new sequel is slated to launch on February 27 next year and has a new protagonist in Grace Ashcroft, as it takes place 30 years after the destruction of Raccoon City. While the mainline games and remakes have been consistently strong, Capcom is continuing to experiment with the franchise in various, slightly questionable forms – and that extends to a number of mobile games you might not even be aware of. Past Resident Evil mobile games have included 2008's puzzle adventure Resident Evil: Genesis and Resident Evil: Uprising, and now Capcom is set to reveal another during a livestream on Thursday July 10, 2025 at 11pm BST in the UK. The new game, entitled Resident Evil: Survival Unit, is described as a 'survival horror strategy' game for mobile. It's being developed by Korean studio Joycity (known for the FreeStyle sports series) and Sony subsidiary Aniplex, in collaboration with Capcom. More Trending There's no screenshots or footage but the game's logo appears to emphasise some sort of scanner, which might be a crux of the gameplay. An official synopsis reads: 'Resident Evil: Survival Unit offers a fresh take on the beloved franchise, reimagining the survival horror universe as a real-time strategy experience optimized for mobile platforms, iOS and Android. The game is designed to appeal to both longtime fans and new players, and will be released globally across Japan, South Korea, North America, Europe, and Asia.' While it doesn't exactly sound promising, Shinji Hashimoto, the co-creator of the Kingdom Hearts series, is involved in some capacity – so it might be a cut above the usual mobile fare. Beyond these titles, Capcom is believed to be working on more remakes in the Resident Evil series, with the next rumoured to be Resident Evil Zero. Resident Evil is getting a new mobile spin-off game
Less than a month after Capcom's surprise announcement of the next Resident Evil game, another new entry has been confirmed. But before Resi fans get too wild with excitement, this one is a mobile spin-off for iOS and Android called Resident Evil Survival Unit . It's a strategy game that somehow fits into the broader universe, even if it's not clear how at this point. We don't have a lot of concrete information at the moment, with the game set to be fully revealed in a showcase scheduled July 10 at 6pm ET, but we do know that it's being co-developed by Aniplex Inc and Korean developer Joycity. The latter is currently working on another strategy game called Disney Realm Breakers , with access to various Disney IP including Toy Story and The Incredibles . Joycity is also the studio behind Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War , a free-to-play real-time strategy game that has an average rating of 4.4 from 210 thousand reviews on the Google Play Store. Strategy is clearly the studio's favored genre, then, and in its announcement message for Resident Evil Survival Unit it promises the game "expands the global fanbase of Resident Evil to mobile, allowing players to enjoy the world of the series with a new approach that is different from the existing series." It was also confirmed in a press release that the mobile game is being developed in close collaboration to "ensure authenticity and quality." Resident Evil Requiem (the official name for what is technically Resident Evil 9 ) was announced back in June at SGF 25, and centers on a new character called Grace Ashcroft. For the first time in the series' history, both first-person and third-person gameplay perspectives will be an option from launch.
