'Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure Of Foggy Mountain' Blu-Ray Review - An Outrageously Funny Journey

John Goodman narrates the raucously funny adventures of Ben, Martin, and John, three childhood friends turned deadbeat coworkers who fend off hairless bears, conniving park rangers (Meg Stalter of Hacks and X Mayo of The Blackening), and a hypocritical cult leader (Bowen Yang of Saturday Night Live) to track down a priceless treasure, only to discover that finding the treasure is the easiest part of their journey. Oh, and Conan O'Brien (Conan) plays Ben's dad in it. This buddy comedy is directed by Paul Briganti (Saturday Night Live) and produced by Judd Apatow (Superbad) and Jimmy Miller (Bad Teacher). Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall — aka the Please Don't Destroy guys — lend their acting chops in addition to writing and executive producing the film. For in-depth thoughts on Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain, please see my colleague Larry Fried's review from its original streaming release here. Video Quality Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain comes to Blu-Ray in a 1080p presentation that brings everything to life as desired. The film presents the hues on display in the natural foliage, lighting and clothing with the proper depth and accuracy. This is a film with a natural color palette that is reproduced perfectly with an entrancing radiance. The skin tones look very detailed and natural throughout the ensemble. The highlights are handled skillfully, and the deep blacks do not appear to suffer from any compression artifacts. This is a story filled with shots where you can see an incredible amount of detail. During the journey, there is a constant supply of imagery that provides a nice reference to showcase the depth at play. There are no serious signs of any noise or other such digital nuisances outside of some fleeting banding. This presentation holds up very well. Audio Quality The Blu-Ray disc comes with a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that represents this one without a hiccup. Dialogue comes through crisp and clear without ever being drowned out by the environmental effects or the score. There are a handful of bustling moments that give the track more of an exciting presence, but the hilarious exchanges are the focus. The music is showcased impeccably here with an immersive use of the surround speakers. The sound design is deftly deployed with all of the sounds positioned just right in the mix. The environmental effects create a robust soundscape of straightforward and heightened cinematic flourishes. Activity in the low end knows when to spring to life for a few key moments. This is an ideal release that brings the movie to life in a splendid way. Optional English SDH subtitles provided. Special Features Audio Commentary: Director Paul Briganti and Actors/Co-Writers Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall provide a lively and informative commentary track in which they discuss some secrets of the production, parts that they had to cut down, friends who are in the movie in small roles, the evolution of certain moments, and more. Deleted Scenes: There are nearly four minutes of unused material provided here. Gag Reel: A three-minute collection of flubbed lines, malfunctioning props, laughing fits, and more. Final Thoughts Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain is an outrageously funny feature film that is stacked wall-to-wall with clever and absurd jokes. There are tons of funny character actors populating the ensemble, but the story keeps the focus on the core trio, and it works all the better for it. The beginning of the third act begins to feel a bit tedious, yet the overall experience is so much fun. This one feels destined for a cult following in the future. Shout! Studios has given this film a Blu-Ray with a terrific A/V presentation and a great selection of features. Highly Recommended Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain is currently available to purchase on Blu-Ray. Note: Images presented in this review are not reflective of the image quality of the Blu-Ray. Disclaimer: Shout! Studios has supplied a copy of this disc free of charge for review purposes. Tom Cruise Reportedly Tried to Recruit This ‘Weak-Minded' Celebrity Into Scientology, per Resurfaced Reports

Tom Cruise's commitment to Scientology is well-documented — and, if Seth Rogen's memory serves, occasionally a little too enthusiastic. According to resurfaced interviews, the Top Gun star once attempted to pull Rogen and frequent collaborator Judd Apatow into the Church of Scientology during what was supposed to be a lighthearted pitch meeting about a comedy film. In a 2021 appearance on Howard Stern's radio show — which has made the rounds again following Cruise's latest Scientology-adjacent headlines — Rogen described a 'very absurd' afternoon at Cruise's house circa 2006, just after the birth of Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter, Suri. Rogen said Holmes had a 'vague 'please rescue me from this place' look on her face,' which, in hindsight, might've been the first red flag. More from SheKnows Insiders Claim Tom Cruise May Want to Bury the Hatchet for Good With Ex Nicole Kidman by Doing This The conversation reportedly veered from movie talk to a passionate Scientology pitch, with Cruise insisting, 'If you let me just tell you what it's really about… just give me like 20 minutes… you'd say, 'No f***ing way.'' Rogen admitted he and Apatow exchanged a glance as if to say, 'Are we strong enough to survive this?' To be fair, Rogen described himself as a 'generally weak-willed, weak-minded person,' adding, 'Thank God Judd was like, 'Eh, I think we're good. Let's just talk about movies and stuff.'' Cruise, meanwhile, allegedly warned them about Big Pharma's plot to discredit him, a reference to his infamous anti-antidepressant stance — the same one that helped cement his reputation as a Hollywood wild card. This resurfaced anecdote comes just weeks after Cruise's Mission: Impossible premiere was disrupted by a peaceful protest led by former Scientologists in London, underscoring how the actor's faith still looms large over his public image. And while Cruise hasn't publicly mentioned Scientology in over a year, insiders insist he's still aligned with the church — even as he courts new audiences and, allegedly, a new partner. Cruise is rumored to be dating Ana de Armas, a devout Catholic who has reportedly discussed his beliefs and their potential impact on their future. Jameela Jamil: I knocked over Al Pacino at a party

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) English actress Actress Jameela Jamil "knocked over" Hollywood star Al Pacino as she was attempting to smuggle food out of a Hollywood party. The actress shared that she accidentally floored the actor during a glitzy party thrown by the head of the United Talent Agency, saying that she was attempting to leave the party with 10 wagyu steaks hidden under her skirt. 'The Good Place' star told the Guardian newspaper: "I knocked over Al Pacino at a party. It was at the head of UTA's house back in maybe 2015. I'd stolen a bunch of food - they had really good wagyu steaks, so I took 10 wrapped in a cloth napkin, they were kind of bleeding. "I bundled them in between my legs, underneath my miniskirt, and was shuffling as fast as I could out of the party when I knocked over Al Pacino. And then I left him on the ground, because the steaks flew out from under my skirt, leaving this bloody streak across the white floor. I grabbed the steaks and ran out of the party ... " Jamil then sent a text message to director Judd Apatow in a bid to cover up for her fiasco. She added: "(I) texted Judd Apatow: 'Sorry, I had to leave. I hope they catch that guy that knocked over Al Pacino'." This comes after the actress said she had just $17 left in her bank account when she was cast in 'The Good Place'. The 39-year-old star, who played Tahani Al-Jamil in Mike Schur's beloved sitcom about the afterlife, revealed she "ran out of money" after leaving the BBC Radio 1 Cart Show in 2016, and decided she "wanted to be a writer and a DJ". She joined her then-musician-partner on tour, but soon found herself struggling. Appearing on 'David Tennant Does a Podcast With...', she said: " I ran out of money and so I said, 'Please can I have a job, any job, I will do anything.' I was so desperate for money at that point. I had $17 left in my bank account. I was real keen. But instead I was handed a bunch of auditions."

However, she had 'never acted before", and was still focused on being a writer, with one of her pitches persuading executives to ask her to audition for the show. She added: 'They were the ones who said, 'We want you to go to this audition for Mike Schur. You'll have more power as a writer if you have a name for yourself, or you can just meet him and maybe he'll put you in the writer's room'… So I went to the audition, just very much so not thinking anything was going to come of it. I got both the magic show and Mike Schur and I had to make a choice. You weren't allowed to do both." First Published: April 21, 2025, 19:01 IST
