Bahrain Olympic Committee Attends Judo World Championships Opening

TDT | Manama Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, His Excellency Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, attended the opening ceremony of the Judo World Championships currently being held in Hungary from June 13 to 20. Joining him at the ceremony were Dr. Faisal Kanoo, Vice President of the Bahrain Combat Sports Council and President of the Bahrain Judo Federation, as well as Eldar, the Federation's technical director. During his visit, Mr. Al Kooheji met with International Judo Federation President Marius Vizer. On behalf of the Bahraini delegation, he presented Vizer with a commemorative gift, reflecting the spirit of international sports diplomacy and Bahrain's ongoing engagement with global sporting bodies.

After winning his first bout on penalties, Nagayama—a bronze medalist at last year's Paris Olympics—was then imperious for the rest of the day. In the final against promising Frenchman Romain Valadier-Picard, the 29-year-old Japanese judoka stepped up a notch in the second half of the bout to win by ippon. Ten years after his junior title, Nagayama finally reached the top step of a world championship podium after finishing third twice. In the women's category, Scutto defeated Azerbaijan's Abiba Abuzhakynova in the final. Last year's world silver medalist and a bronze medalist the previous two years, the 23-year-old judoka completes her collection with world gold. – AFP
