Samsung Galaxy S26 series may outpace iPhone 17 with higher RAM offering: Report

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S26 series, expected to debut soon, could feature a substantial upgrade in memory, according to a new leak. The flagship smartphone lineup, expectedly comprising the standard Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, may come equipped with up to 16GB of RAM, a notable increase over their predecessors. Leaked information shared by tipster Jukan Choi (@Jukanlosreve), referencing data from Macquarie Research, suggests that Samsung plans to offer 16GB RAM variants of all three Galaxy S26 models globally. This could be a considerable jump from the current Galaxy S25 series, where only the Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with 16GB RAM, and that too only in select regions such as South Korea and China. The base Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ models are presently limited to 12GB RAM configurations. The reported memory enhancement appears aimed at supporting Samsung's expanding suite of Galaxy AI tools, which are expected to play a major role in the S26 series. Increased RAM could also improve multitasking, gaming, and overall system performance, positioning Samsung's next-gen flagships more competitively against rivals, particularly Chinese brands like OnePlus and Red Magic, which already offer smartphones with up to 24GB of RAM. The leak also sheds light on Apple's future plans. The iPhone 17 series, likely to launch in September, could introduce a 12GB RAM option across its lineup, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. This would mark a step up from the 8GB RAM currently found in the iPhone 16 range. However, Apple's iPhone 18 series, tipped for release next year, is expected to maintain the same 12GB RAM configuration. As competition intensifies in the premium smartphone segment, memory upgrades are becoming increasingly crucial to support new AI-powered experiences and demanding user tasks. If the leak holds true, Samsung's Galaxy S26 series could gain a notable edge by offering higher memory across its entire lineup.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could ditch the S Pen to make way for this new tech

As we move further away from the release of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, rumors about its successor, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, are starting to emerge more frequently. The latest comes from leaker PandaFlashPro on X, who suggests that Samsung may cut features from the S Pen to make space for new charging tech. "Currently, Samsung Now has New S-Pen Tech, and Samsung is Ready to use it in the Ultra," they wrote in their tweet. Specifically, they say that Samsung will remove the S-Pen Digitizer. Doing so would allegedly allow the company to add a Qi2 magnetic ring to the phone for charging and charging accessories. Additionally, as Samsung is on a never-ending quest to make the thinnest phones in the world, it would also allow the phone maker to reduce the thickness of the S26 Ultra. For comparison, the current S25 Ultra is Qi2 Ready, meaning it can use magnetic cases; however, unlike the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it does not have magnetic rings inside the phone. If Samsung finally adds magnets to the phone, it would have a MagSafe-like feature, similar to Apple's. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. In response to comments, PandaFlash indicated that Samsung would use similar tech for the S Pen that might be in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Reportedly, Samsung has rebuilt the S Pen with new tech and a bigger form factor. The Z Fold 7 still won't have an internal holder for the S Pen and requires a special holding case. It's not clear from this rumor whether or not the S26 Ultra will lose its built-in S Pen holder. Though PandaFlash does say that we won't be seeing a return of the Bluetooth-capable S Pen. There are a number of varying rumors about the S Pen, with regular Samsung leaker Jukan Choi posting recently that Samsung might remove the S Pen entirely after the Galaxy S27 series. Assuming the S Pen rumors are true, we'll get our first look at it next month during the annual summer Galaxy Unpacked event, where Samsung's next foldables will be announced. After that, Samsung usually announces its main flagship S series line in January, which is when we're likely to see the S26 family next year.

Google Pixel 11 could finally catch up to Samsung and Apple on performance — here's how

Google's Pixel phones have long been among the best phones you can buy and break up the hegemonic hold of Samsung and Apple devices. However, they've also been far underpowered compared to the iPhone and the Galaxy S series. That may be about to change as a new report from the Chinese publication CTEE (via 9to5Google) claims that Google will jump on the 2nm process via TSMC for its Tensor G6 chip, which should power the Pixel 11 series. From the beginning, Google's Tensor SoCs have been behind its competitors.. The Tensor series of chips was introduced in 2021 with the Pixel 6, which was built on a 5nm process at Samsung. The G2 in the Pixel 7 series used the same 5nm process, while Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 moved down to 4nm. For comparison, here's how the Tensor G4 in the Google Pixel 9 stacks up to the Samsung Galaxy S24 and iPhone 15, both a generation old now. Google Pixel 9 Samsung Galaxy S24 iPhone 15 Google Pixel 8 Processor Tensor G4 Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 A16 Bionic Tensor G3 Geekbench (single core/multicore) 1,758 / 4,594 2235 / 6922 2518 / 6179 1569 / 3744 WildLife Unlimited(fps) 55.71 120.4 72.1 54 Things are changing. Google is reportedly already moving production of the Tensor G5 to TSMC on a 3nm process and moving to TSMC's 2nm process for the Tensor G6. Surprisingly, that change could mean that Google might beat rivals to the punch when it comes to 2nm processes. Allegedly, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite will stick with 3nm. Though there are rumors that Samsung foundries are working on an Exynos 2600 chip built on a 2nm process, regular Samsung leaker Jukan Choi has claimed that Samsung is having more success with its 2nm builds over the current 3nm process, which has allegedly been a struggle. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Our first glimpse of an improved Pixel will be the Pixel 10, which should launch later this summer in August. But it's interesting that Google is finally taking its chips seriously, though we wonder if catching up means that Pixels will also get more expensive as better chips power the phones.

The Galaxy S line's once huge lead over the iPhone with this feature has been sharply reduced

Remember when most top-tier Android phones had 4GB of RAM? These days, 12GB of memory is the minimum you want to see on your Android handset. The Galaxy S25 line featured 12GB of RAM although there was a 16GB variant of the top-of-the-line Galaxy S25 Ultra , but it was limited to Korean sales only. Macquarie Research believes that Sammy will hike the amount of memory on the Galaxy S26 series which is expected to be released in February 2026. Macquarie expects that the RAM capacity of the Galaxy S series will increase to 16GB in 2026. Meanwhile, the iPhone's RAM is expected to rise to 12GB in 2025, but remain at 12GB in 2026 as well. — Jukan Choi (@Jukanlosreve) June 23, 2025 Based on Macquarie's research, tipster @Jukanlosreve posted a tweet that cites the research firm's conclusion by saying that the RAM capacity of the Galaxy S series will rise to 16GB in 2026. This will help Samsung's flagship series take on its rivals from China who are willing to equip their top shelf models with the best hardware available. We used to write about how a higher capacity of RAM would improve a phone's ability to multitask. iPhone 17 gets only 8GB of RAM which will be enough for it to support Apple Intelligence . These days, a higher amount of RAM is required for phones that are AI-centric. For example, Apple made sure that the iPhone 16e budget model carried no less than 8GB of RAM because that is the minimum required to run Apple Intelligence . While Sammy is hiking the amount of RAM on its upcoming flagship line, Apple will stick with 12GB for the iPhone 17 series later this year (actually, about two and a half months from now). TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a living legend among Apple analysts, expects all iPhone 18 models to receive 12GB of RAM next year. One thing that you might have noticed over the last few years is that Apple seriously closed the RAM gap between the iPhone and the Galaxy S series. At the peak, there was 10GB of difference between the 16GB of RAM available for the 512GB Galaxy S20 Ultra and the 6GB of RAM deployed on the iPhone 12 Pro Max . That gap will be reduced to 4GB early next year with the 16GB of RAM on theseries and the 12GB of RAM expected on allseries models this coming September. Maybe you think that Apple Intelligence has been underwhelming and you barely use any of the AI features. But one thing for sure is that AI has forced Apple to take its RAM game to new heights.

No more room for legends: Galaxy S27 Ultra may drop the S Pen

Samsung removed the S Pen's Bluetooth features with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and not a lot of people liked that approach. Apart from removing features that apparently "nobody used", this decision also raised questions if the S Pen will continue to lose its importance for the S Ultra models in the future. Now, a new rumor indicates the Galaxy S27 Ultra may be the beginning of the end for the S Pen. According to this new rumor, the dedicated slot for the S Pen may be removed from the body of Samsung's 2027 flagship. The S Pen started its existence with the Galaxy Note series. When Samsung decided to discontinue the Note models, the S Pen moved into the Galaxy S Ultra, which became somewhat of a mix between a Note and an S flagship. The slot for the stylus remained in the Galaxy S Ultra model for years after that. Now, tipster @Jukanlosreve is sharing a prediction from an unnamed leaker from China, who reportedly has a solid track record. The leaker reportedly speculates that Samsung may remove the built-in S Pen with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. A leaker with a solid track record in China speculated that Samsung would remove the built-in S Pen starting with the Galaxy S27 Ultra, citing the removal of S Pen support from the Z Fold 7 as evidence. — Jukan Choi (@Jukanlosreve) June 22, 2025 It's worth noting that this idea isn't entirely new. For example, Galaxy Z Fold models support the S Pen, but these models don't come with a dedicated S Pen slot. Also, the stylus is sold separately, and you can buy a case for it to store it alongside the device if you choose to do so. Presumably, a similar approach may be taken by the company for the Galaxy S27 Ultra and its S Pen. And maybe, not too long after that, the S Pen may be gone, if there aren't people interested in it anymore, I guess. The focus right now is on slim phones. And slim comes at a cost. For one, rumors about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 missing the S Pen digitizer to become slimmer have circulated for months online now. It's still not confirmed, but to get a device as slim as possible, you have no choice at one point than to start removing things. Nevertheless, it's way too early to know for certain whether the Galaxy S27 Ultra will come with an S Pen or not. Let's first see what Galaxy Z Fold 7 will offer - the foldable is expected to be unveiled sometime at the beginning of next month. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!
