Angel Reese Reacts to Brother Julian Reese Signing with Lakers After NBA Draft

Angel Reese Reacts to Brother Julian Reese Signing with Lakers After NBA Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NBA draft unfolded across Wednesday and Thursday, and while several players heard their names called and saw their dreams realized, others faced a tougher path—signing on as undrafted rookies, often with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. Advertisement One of those players is Julian Reese from Maryland, the younger brother of Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese. On Friday, Julian agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of Summer League, joining a group of notable undrafted free agents including RJ Davis (North Carolina), Eric Dixon (Villanova), and Augustas Marciulionis (Saint Mary's). If any team knows how to find hidden gems among undrafted players, it's the Lakers. Both Alex Caruso—who won a championship with L.A. in 2020—and Austin Reaves carved out successful NBA careers after going undrafted and earning their stripes in Los Angeles. Now, Julian Reese will look to become the next breakout story, and his sister Angel celebrated the milestone with a proud and heartfelt reaction to the news. Advertisement "OPPORTUNITY. COME ON JU," Angel posted on social media. Both Angel and Julian Reese began their collegiate careers at Maryland. While Angel transferred to LSU—where she went on to win a national championship—Julian remained with the Terrapins, spending four seasons with the program and playing a pivotal role in helping them reach the Sweet 16 in this past NCAA Tournament. Chicago Sky forward Angel Krzaczynski-Imagn Images As a senior, Reese averaged 13.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game, while shooting an efficient 55.5% from the field. One factor that may have contributed to him going undrafted is his inconsistency as a shooter, particularly from beyond the arc—a crucial skill for big men in today's NBA, especially those projected as stretch forwards. Advertisement Reese didn't make a single three-pointer during his senior season. However, he did show improvement at the free-throw line, raising his percentage from 56.8% as a junior to 73.4% in his final year at Maryland. NBA World Responds to Lakers Signing Angel Reese's Little Brother

NBA World Responds to Lakers Signing Angel Reese's Little Brother originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Lakers have had a relatively quiet 2025 NBA draft week. L.A. did trade up, twice, in the second round to select former Arkansas forward Adou Thiero with the No. 36 pick. Advertisement Earlier this month the Lakers also, of course, saw the Buss family's 66% controlling stake in the franchise get sold, at an approximately $10 billion valuation (i.e. $6.6 billion was sold), to Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Sparks part owner Mark Walter. As free agency looms next week, the Lakers appear to be getting their Las Vegas Summer League roster in order, and are examining several undrafted young prospects the team's front office considers worthy of closer examination. The Lakers made headlines once again Friday when the Maryland Terrapins' official X account announced that L.A. had inked undrafted free agent Julian "Juju" Reese to a new contract. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (5).Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images Although the exact nature of the deal is unclear, it would make sense as an Exhibit 10 training camp contract. Advertisement Exhibit 10 signings can still compete for a two-way slot, and players can become eligible for $85,000 signing bonuses even if they're waived before the season — provided they spend at least 60 days on a team's G League affiliate. Normally, an Exhibit 10 signing wouldn't set the web ablaze. But Reese is the younger brother to one of the WNBA's most popular players, All-Star Chicago Sky power forward Angel Reese. The basketball world had a variety of opinions on the move. Maryland fan @MDSportsGuy1 responded, "Already better [than] Bronny." Another fan, @LBJcrib, took a dig at Juju's big sister. "Hopefully bro can make layups," joked @LBJcrib. "LFG!! JUJU Reese!!" writes fan @sports_god1 in part. "Pelinka cooking with this 1!!! Juju going to ball!! Junkyard DAWG!!! Baltimore Grit!! Love it!! 6-8, 6-9 long athletic! Rebounder, shot blocker etc." Advertisement A 6-foot-9 forward, the 23-year-old Julian Reese averaged 13.3 points on 55.5% shooting from the floor and 73.4% shooting from the charity stripe, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals during his 2024-25 senior season with the Terrapins. NBA Draft News: Los Angeles Lakers sign Angel Reese's 6-feet-9 brother in hopes to bolster squad around LeBron James and Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic and LeBron James (Image via Jerome Miron, USA TODAY Sports) The Los Angeles Lakers have made another intriguing addition to their undrafted free-agent class, signing Julian Reese , the brother of WNBA star Angel Reese , to a Summer League contract. This signing follows the Lakers' earlier acquisitions of Villanova's Eric Dixon, North Carolina's RJ Davis, and Augustas Marčiulionis, the son of Hall of Famer Sarunas Marčiulionis. Julian Reese, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound power forward, now joins the mix as the team continues to bolster its roster ahead of Summer League. Julian Reese's College Career and Strengths Julian Reese spent four seasons at Maryland, emerging as a reliable frontcourt presence in his junior and senior years. Over his final two college campaigns, he posted solid numbers: - 13.5 points per game - 9.2 rebounds per game - 1.7 blocks per game - 1.3 assists per game - 1.1 steals per game He also shot an efficient 55.1% from the field, showcasing his ability to finish around the rim. His physicality and defensive presence make him an interesting prospect for the Los Angeles Lakers, who are actively seeking size and toughness. Areas for Improvement for the Los Angeles Lakers Despite his strengths, Reese has a clear weakness: his lack of outside shooting. He did not attempt a single three-pointer in his last three seasons at Maryland, which could limit his versatility in today's NBA. However, as Billy Heyen noted in the original report, "The Lakers are looking for size, though, so this will be a chance for Julian to show up at Summer League, play well, and potentially earn an invite to training camp and beyond. " (H/t: Sporting News) Reese's game contrasts with that of his sister, Angel, who was the No. 7 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft and has already made a name for herself as one of the league's top rebounders. While Julian may not have the same level of hype, the Lakers are giving him an opportunity to carve out his own path. What This Means for the Los Angeles Lakers The Los Angeles Lakers ' undrafted free-agent signings indicate a strategy of adding depth and potential developmental pieces. Here's a quick look at their recent pickups: Player Position College/Background Notable Stats/Achievements Eric Dixon Forward Villanova Led NCAA in scoring (2023–24) RJ Davis Guard North Carolina 2,700+ career points Augustas Marčiulionis Guard Son of Hall of Famer Played in Lithuania Julian Reese Forward Maryland 13.5 PPG, 9.2 RPG (last 2 seasons) Reese's signing adds another big body to the Lakers' Summer League roster, giving him a chance to prove he belongs at the next level. If he impresses in Las Vegas, he could earn a training camp invite and possibly a two-way contract. Julian Reese may not have the star power of his sister, but his rebounding, defense, and efficiency inside make him a worthwhile project for the Lakers. Summer League will be his first real test against NBA-level competition, and if he can address his shooting limitations, he might just find a way to stick around. Whether he makes the final roster or not, this opportunity is a crucial step in his professional career. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

Angel Reese's brother Julian joins LeBron James in shock NBA move

The Reese Family can boast that yet another member of their clan is now a professional basketball player. After not being selected in the 2025 NBA Draft, Maryland forward Julian Reese was able to sign an NBA contract with the Los Angeles Lakers after his name wasn't called. Julian, who played all four years with the Terrapins, is the younger brother of WNBA star and Chicago Sky center Angel Reese. Angel got her start at Maryland as well before transferring to LSU and winning a national championship. Not only is his sister a pro basketball player, but Julian is also set to play in the NBA alongside his cousin - New Orleans Pelicans star and former UConn national champion Jordan Hawkins. Now, Julian joins them as he hopes to earn a roster spot along the likes of Luka Doncic and LeBron James. In college, Julian blossomed into a consistent and highly efficient scorer with a tenacity for grabbing boards. He averaged at least 45 percent shooting every year of college - including a 55 percent shooting line in his senior season. Julian averaged 28.5 minutes per game across 36 contests - putting up 13.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. In his senior year with the Terrapins, Julian made the Sweet 16 before losing to eventual national champions, Florida. In that game, he had 12 points, eight rebounds, and three assists while shooting 55.6 percent. As for his sister, Angel is leading the WNBA in rebounds - averaging 11.9 per game, two boards more than the next-closest person on that list. She's also top-3 in steals per game. Angel is currently the only player in the WNBA who is averaging a double-double with 11.3 points and 11.9 rebounds alongside 3.7 assists, and 1.9 steals a game.
