Police nab fifth suspect over Wynberg courthouse 'hit'

A 20-year-old 'key suspect' implicated in a brazen hit in the Wynberg magistrate's court in Cape Town will appear in the same court with four co-accused on Friday. Police spokesperson Brig Novela Potelwa said the latest arrest brings the number of suspects in the murder investigation to five. 'As the investigation unfolded police indicated they had their sights on a number of suspects whom they believed were behind the shooting,' she said. Shireen Matthews, 35, Abubaker Adams, 24, Brian Booysen, 34, and Wanay Fararo, 22, previously appeared in court facing charges related to the shooting on April 8 in the court building. Dingalomoya Chintso, 50, was killed by gunmen who bypassed security, shot the victim and escaped. At the time he faced charges of murder and illegal possession of a firearm. The state alleges the accused aided and abetted criminal gang activity in association with the Junky Funky Kidz gang, are implicated in the premeditated murder of Chintso and were in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Two suspects added to Wynberg court 'hit' case in Cape Town

Two more suspects appeared briefly in the Wynberg magistrate's court on Friday on charges related to a brazen 'assassination' inside the same building in Cape Town. Brian Booysen, 34, and Wanay Fararo, 22, were arrested on Thursday and face charges in terms of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act. Booysen and Fararo face the same charges as co-accused Shireen Matthews, 35, and Abubaker Adams, 24, who appeared in court on Wednesday. Booysen and Fararo said they would be represented by a private legal representative. The state alleges the four: aided and abetted criminal gang activities in association with the Junky Funky Kidz gang; were implicated in the premeditated murder of former taxi owner Dingalomoya Chintso; and were in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Chintso, 50, was shot dead in the court building by gunmen who bypassed security, shot him and escaped on April 8. At the time he faced charges of murder and the illegal possession of a firearm.

'I broke into a billion pieces': A mother's heartbreak as court hears impact of Emaan Solomons' murder

"I broke into a billion pieces." This is the heartbroken cry of the mother of slain 7-year-old Emaan Solomons, as she described the impact of her only daughter's death as convicted killers Eben Basson and Chivargo Fredericks returned to the Western Cape High Court this week. The duo returned to court for pre-sentencing arguments after they were convicted by Judge Gayaat Da Silva Salie in February. They are alleged members of the Junky Funky Kidz gang in Ocean View, and were busted by the Anti-Gang Unit and charged with killing Emaan in front of her home during a shooting on February 25, 2020 amid a gang war. They were slapped with various charges including murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and charges under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, and now face a possible life sentence.
