Telangana moots manufacturing zone, textile clusters for Taiwanese firms
Telangana will consider setting up a dedicated manufacturing zone and exclusive textile clusters in the State for Taiwanese firms, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Friday. 'If Taiwanese investors come forward, the government would explore setting up a dedicated Telangana–Taiwan Manufacturing Zone and exclusive textile clusters,' he told a 11-member Taiwanese textile delegation led by Taiwan Textile Federation President Justin Huang that met him at the Secretariat here. Inviting industrialists from Taiwan to invest in the State's thriving textile sector, the Minister highlighted the abundant opportunities in Telangana compared to other Indian states. The State had rapidly emerged as a formidable player in the textile industry. 'Within a short span, Telangana has made significant strides in the textile sector, positioning itself on par with other leading States. The Gross State Value Added (GSVA) from industries for 2024-25 stood at ₹2.77 lakh crore, with textiles playing a key role. Telangana produces some of the finest quality cotton in India,' he said. A release from the Minister's office said Mr. Sridhar Babu sought to underscore how the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP), developed with a special focus by the State government, has become a game-changer. 'KMTP offers integrated world-class infrastructure, from ginning, spinning, weaving, processing to garmenting. Leading companies like Youngone, Kitex and Ganesha Ecosphere have invested in the park, which is strategically connected to the Hyderabad–Nagpur–Vijayawada Industrial Corridor. It benefits from excellent logistics and transport infrastructure,' he said. Assuring the visiting delegation of Telangana government's commitment to drive industrial growth through global partnerships, he cited the vast opportunities for investment in areas like functional textiles, eco-friendly dyeing and textile recycling. 'We offer customised land parcels, plug-and-play facilities, a skilled workforce, effective leadership, a stable government and strategic geographic advantage,' the Minister said. Sectors such as technical textiles, electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM), sustainable manufacturing, innovation and research and development are ideal for collaboration with Taiwanese enterprises.

‘Synthetic active wear is a potential area of opportunities for textile units in Tamil Nadu'
Sportswear and athleisure are potential segments that the textile and garment industry in Tamil Nadu can tap as the State has the required eco system, said GR Gopikumar, convenor of the textile panel of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Tamil Nadu. The CII has been interacting with the Taiwan Textile Federation and organised a two-day business meeting and summit in Coimbatore and Tiruppur on July 21 and 22, with special focus on processing of functional synthetic fabrics. 'We hope an (industry-wide) alliance will be formed in 2026 between the Taiwan textile sector and the textile industry in Tamil Nadu,' he told the media in Coimbatore on Monday. The focus right now is on increasing garment production in Tamil Nadu by importing some of the high end fabrics from Taiwan, which is a global leader in synthetic active wear. 'We find India to be a safer place and our clients are advising us to source more from India,' said Justin Huang, president of the Taiwan Textile Federation. Leading markets are focusing on sustainability and it is the right time to work jointly to produce garments made of sustainable synthetic fabrics, especially for active wear. 'We will start with trade collaboration and then think of investments,' he said. Sunil Jhunjhunwala, co-founder of Technosport, said India will soon have either preferential access to the U.S. or at least a level playing field with other countries. This will give a thrust to export of synthetic active wear from India. A. Sakthivel, Honorary Chairman of Tiruppur Exporters' Association, said at the meeting held in Tiruppur on Tuesday that Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the UK and the EU are currently in progress, while a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) with the U.S. is expected. These will significantly boost textile exports.
