Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Jyoti Patil promises clean, pro-people governance

Newly-elected Mayor Jyoti Patil has emphasised that she will work towards providing clean and pro-people governance by taking everyone into confidence and also taking steps to mobilise additional resources for facilitating more development works in the twin cities. She was making her maiden speech in the monthly council meeting of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation amid sloganeering by the opposition Congress members on Wednesday. Ms. Patil was encouraged by the ruling party members to continue her speech amid sloganeering by the Congress members who were subsequently removed out of the council hall by marshals. 'My priority is to take up time-bound programmes and deliver governance on the doorsteps of the people,' she said. Ms. Patil said that her first project will be to complete the installation of LED lamps for the 64,000 electricity poles in the twin cities under the PPP project. The measure will save 47% power bill of the corporation, she said. The Mayor said that the corporation will take up the project of raising Miyawaki Forest in the land to be cleared by biomining in the dumping yards of the twin cities. The GIS survey being initiated by the corporation will be expedited to bring more property under the tax net. Land bank The Mayor said that she will work towards expediting the process of re-auction of the corporation's stalls that have been leased out and utilise the funds mobilised through sale of land that has been leased out to create a land bank on the outskirts of the twin cities. The Mayor listed out the other works, including the implementation of waterless urinals project, enhancing green cover by developing 728 parks in the twin cities through public participation, afforestation projects, holding e-Swattu camps, development of storm-water drains, people-friendly zonal offices, housing for pourakarmikas, development of villages under the municipal limits and others. She also proposed instituting awards for the best councillors and officers who contribute towards development of the corporation and sought the cooperation of the members and officials in executing her plans. Several BJP councillors, including floor leader Iresh Anchatageri, Thippanna Majjagi, Viranna Savadi, Ramanna Badiger, Rajanna Koravi, Shivu Menasinakai, Radhabai Safare, and others spoke in reply to her speech along with AIMIM members Nazeer Ahmed Honyal and Waheda Rehman Kittur.

Rich tributes paid to martyrs to mark Kargil Vijay Divas

On Kargil Vijay Divas in Dharwad on Saturday, rich tributes were paid to the heroes of the Kargil war. Members of North Karnataka Sainik Welfare Association, volunteers of NCC volunteers, Scouts and Guides and students of various schools and colleges came together to pay tributes to the martyrs. Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Jyoti Patil laid a wreath at the Kargil memorial located in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Dharwad. NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides too took part in the programme and observed a two-minute silence to pay tributes to the martyrs. As many as 533 Indian soldiers lost their lives during the Kargil war and of them, 13 were from Karnataka. Mayor Jyoti Patil said that it is the bounden duty of every citizen to respect and remember the sacrifice of the brave soldiers. These programmes should motivate the younger generation to be ready to serve their motherland, she said. Earlier, a Tiranga Yatra was taken out by the participants from Gandhi Chowk to the Kargil memorial in which hundreds of people from different walks of life took part carrying the tricolour, braving a spell of rain. On the Kargil Vijay Divas, students from various schools and colleges, members of various organisations and political parties paid tributes to the martyrs by taking out rallies holding placards praising their sacrifice. In Hubballi too, rich tributes were paid to the war heroes by various organisations and in schools and colleges.

D Govindrao, Sadanand Danganavar, Suggi Sudhkar Shetty, and others were Raju Shirur, Shanatharam Bhat, Hanumanthgouda Patil, and others who participated in Kargil war were felicitated at the BJP office.A blood donation camp was held at the SWR Central Hospital, in collaboration with SDJCM Rashtrotthana Blood General Manager Mukul Saran Mathur, Additional General Manager K S Jain, and others were present.

Hubballi: Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) initiated a plan to employ community mobilisers for supervising cleanliness operations and educating residents about appropriate waste disposal methods. Starting July 15, these mobilisers will work alongside health inspectors and oversee pourakarmikas' activities beginning at 6 in the morning. They will have the authority to photograph individuals who dispose of rubbish in public spaces, enabling the authorities to impose penalties on offenders. Mayor Jyoti Patil in her maiden and seventh edition phone-in programme received many complaints related to garbage disposal violations among a total of 33 calls. Later, the mayor said she will focus more on proper garbage disposal and streamlining Solid Waste Management (SWM). She added that the officials of SWM completed the recruitment and selected 63 community mobilisers. After completing all formalities, the mobilisers will start working after July 15, she added. The Union govt will give the salary of the mobilisers for three years. For three years, the total salary for all 63 mobilisers will be Rs 4.3 crore, each mobiliser will get a salary of over Rs 18,000 per month. The mobilisers will document instances of improper garbage disposal through photographs, which will help HDMC enforce penalties on offenders. They will work closely with health inspectors to maintain cleanliness standards across residential and commercial areas. Their role extends beyond monitoring to include educating residents about proper waste segregation and disposal methods. They will conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns and organise community meetings to explain the importance of maintaining clean surroundings, he added. Mayor Patil emphasised that achieving a clean and green city requires active public participation, noting that despite multiple initiatives, citizens are not collaborating with HDMC in eliminating black spots. R Vijay Kumar, superintending engineer, HDMC, said CCTV cameras have been installed at more than 116 black spots, with additional cameras placed in all HDMC wards using corporators' funds. He added that after verifying the functionality of these cameras, enforcement actions will commence with proper video evidence against offenders. Deputy mayor Santosh Chavan said the initiative is expected to create better coordination among stakeholders involved in city cleanliness, including residents, commercial establishments, pourakarmikas and municipal authorities.
