Your enterprise business must grow by a range of 25-30 per cent per SBU (strategic business unit). There's no reason why your CM (consumer mobility) business should not grow by 50 per cent. This is for next year. Even if you grow your ARPU by 50 per cent, you'll already be there," the minister said. After the review meeting, Scindia told reporters that he wants BSNL to increase average revenue per user (ARPU) -- a key matrix for a telecom company growth -- by improving customer satisfaction and adding more subscribers. "On an average, we will look at lifting those ARPUs... ARPUs will come through customer satisfaction, better CRM (customer relationship management). That is what we are focused on. It has to be a twinning of two aims. One, ensuring that customer satisfaction improves. You increase your customer base, and if your customer satisfaction improves, your ARPU will also improve," the minister said. Live Events He said BSNL's APRU varies from circle to circle where in some it is around Rs 40 and in some it is upwards of Rs 175. Reliance Jio has posted an ARPU of Rs 208 in the June quarter while Airtel had last posted ARPU of Rs 245. Scindia said BSNL had a capex of Rs 25,000 crore -- the largest in its history. "It is important to look at the operating margin and the operating cash flows. Last year, we delivered almost a 2.5x increase in operating margins -- from Rs 2,395 crore to almost Rs 5,100 crore. On a quarterly basis, we will post healthy operating cash flows, and that is our target," the minister said. BSNL has posted net profit in two consecutive quarters after a gap of 18 years. The state-run firm had posted a profit of Rs 280 crore in the March quarter of FY25 against a loss of Rs 849 crore in the year-ago period. The company had posted a profit after tax of Rs 262 crore in the October-December period of the previous fiscal year.

Scindia, Pemmasani review BSNL's operational progress, 4G roll out
NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani on Monday reviewed the operational progress of state-controlled Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited ( BSNL ) and outlined its strategy for network expansion and service delivery. To this extent, the senior ministers, along with Department of Telecommunications (DoT) officials, held extensive high-level meetings with BSNL's circle chief general managers (CGMs). Scindia noted that the meeting focused on strengthening BSNL's role in the telecom sector, accelerating infrastructure rollout, and enhancing citizen-centric service delivery, according to an official statement. During the meeting, BSNL's circle heads were aligned on several priority areas, including reconnecting with customers across rural, urban, enterprise and retail segments; enhancing service quality in mobile networks and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) segments; addressing customer grievances in billing, provisioning, and network uptime; and driving accountability with 'revenue-first' targets at every operational level. The telecom carrier's top executives have also been tasked with expanding enterprise services, such as connectivity, virtual private network (VPN) solutions, leased-line services, and other new business opportunities. This comes at a time when BSNL is bolstering its 4G mobile network and services to compete strongly with its private sector rivals Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), which have a nationwide 4G network and also offer commercial fifth-generation (5G)-driven services. Scindia 'appreciated BSNL's efforts and stressed the importance of achieving measurable improvements' in customer experience and revenue generation, according to the statement. As part of the review, BSNL executives highlighted key new initiatives, including 4G expansion in multiple circles; launch of IFTV for FTTH and BiTV for mobile customers; BSNL national Wi-Fi roaming; tailored VPN services and bundled packages for enterprise and government clients; captive non-public network (CNPN) initiatives for high-reliability connectivity in mission-critical infrastructure; and a spam-free network. BSNL also launched an online portal – BSNL Business Associate (BBA) – to enable youth to engage with the BSNL sales channel strengthening and earn sales commissions.

India aiming to contribute 10% of global 6G patents: Scindia
Kanpur/Bengaluru: Union minister of communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said that the govt aims to foster next-generation communication technologies, such as 6G, by establishing robust policy frameworks, boosting research funding, and allocating spectrum in a timely manner to facilitate innovation and testing. Reviewing the progress of Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) along with Neeraj Mittal, secretary, telecom, the minister said that the Bharat 6G alliance should create a focused, strategic and clear roadmap for driving the innovation in 6G technology. "Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modiji's vision, I highlighted how India is not just advancing with indigenous 4G/5G stacks but also aiming to contribute 10% of global 6G patents, placing the nation at the forefront of telecom innovation," Scindia later posted on X. The event included comprehensive presentations from working group chairpersons, outlining actionable plans and key technological advancements. Among them was Prof Rohit Budhiraja, vice chair of B6GA and professor in the department of electrical engineering at IIT-Kanpur, who delivered a presentation titled "Global 6G Standardisation". He shared India's growing contributions to international standard-setting bodies such as 3GPP and ITU, and emphasized the importance of aligning national efforts with global benchmarks. Drawing from India's active participation in global standard-setting forums such as the 3GPP workshop in Korea and the TSG RAN meeting in Prague, Prof Budhiraja outlined how India is shaping discussions on critical 6G design goals including ubiquitous coverage, AI integration, security, and energy efficiency. He emphasized that 6G must inherently support both terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, and presented frameworks for integrating AI-as-a-Service and post-quantum cryptography into 6G networks. He said, "Artificial Intelligence and 6G share a symbiotic relationship. While AI will make 6G networks more secure, efficient, and adaptive, from threat detection to energy optimization, 6G will, in turn, serve as a foundational platform to scale AI applications through AI-as-a-Service, seamless data handling, and intelligent connectivity. At IIT-Kanpur, our work is actively shaping this intersection, building on insights from 5G Advanced and pushing the frontiers for what 6G can enable. " The government of India unveiled the Bharat 6G Vision Document in March 2023, laying the strategic foundation for India's leadership in the sixth generation (6G) of wireless systems. To operationalize this vision, the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) was established as a multi-stakeholder platform, uniting academia, industry, startups, and public institutions. The Bharat 6G Alliance is a collaborative initiative, designed to create a comprehensive and future-ready 6G ecosystem in India. Its focus on R&D, innovation, and standardization is central to the national mission of making India a global leader in 6G.
