Jagruthi, BRS want local bodies' polls with enhanced BC quota sans legal hurdles

HYDERABAD President of Telangana Jagruthi and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has suggested the State government to issue an ordinance on the 42% reservation for Backward Classes in local bodies only after filing a caveat petition in the High Court and Governor's approval for the enhanced quota. Speaking to the Jagruthi activists here on Friday, she said they were postponing the rail roko protest planned on July 17 in support of the enhanced quota for BCs. The Cabinet had taken a decision only on the political reservation in local bodies and sought to know what about the enhanced quota in education and employment. She suggested the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including Union Ministers, to take initiative in getting the ordinance approved by the Governor and also get the enhanced quota included in the IX Schedule of the Constitution by amending it so that the enhanced quota for BCs could be implemented on the lines of quota for SCs and STs. She expressed hope that the Governor would approve the ordinance for the enhanced quota to BCs. Meanwhile, BC leaders of the BRS, including former ministers T. Srinivas Yadav, G. Kamalakar, MP V. Ravichandra, MLCs S. Madhusudana Chary and D. Sravan, former legislators V. Srinivas Goud, former BC Commission chairman V. Krishnamohan said here on Friday that they want the government to go for local bodies elections only with 42% quota to BCs whether it be with the ordinance and by getting the President's assets for the Bills passed and sent for the enhanced quota. Based on the experience they have some doubts over the implementation and it was for the government to clear them. Though the Congress was the main opposition in the Centre, it had failed to pressure the Centre for enhanced quota to BCs. Implementation of enhanced quota on the lines of Tamil Nadu was the only and permanent solution, they felt.

Trains won't be allowed to move if 42% BC quota is not approved by Centre: Kavitha

HYDERABAD President of Telangana Jagruthi and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has cautioned that the Jagruthi will not allow even one train to move if the Centre fails to approve the Bill granting 42% reservation to Backwards Classes (BCs). She announced a 'Rail Roko' protest on July 17 demanding Presidential assent for the BC reservation bill passed by the Telangana Assembly. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday, she insisted that the Revanth Reddy government in Telangana issue a Government Order (GO) implementing the enhanced reservations in accordance with provisions under Article 243(D) of the Constitution, as an interim measure. 'Trains from Deccan to Delhi will be stopped. If the Bill is not approved, we'll go for an indefinite Rail Roko,' she said and asserted that the 2.5 crore BC population in Telangana would teach the BJP a lesson, if the due quota was denied. Ms. Kavitha sought to know why AICC leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was not advising the Telangana Chief Minister to issue such a GO. She requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who identifies himself as an OBC, to ensure justice for BCs by taking steps for Presidential approval to the Telangana BC reservation Bills.

Kavitha questions silence of top Congress leaders over BC quota, unveils rail roko poster

HYDERABAD BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha has questioned the silence of top Congress leaders, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, on the issue of 42% reservation in local bodies, education, and government jobs for BCs. Speaking, after unveiling the poster of Rail Roko, scheduled for July 17, under the auspices of Telangana Jagruthi and United Progressive Front (UPF), at her residence here on Thursday, she expressed her displeasure over the 'silence' of senior Congress leaders on the quota issue. Ms. Kavitha said that she had written to Mr. Kharge urging him to suggest the State government to conduct local body elections only after the BC reservation issue was finalised. Questioning Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy about why he was not leading an all-party delegation to the Centre to press for finalisation of the BC reservation issue, the BRS MLC demanded a delegation to reach out to the Centre by July 8. She also demanded that the government disclose the Independent Expert Working Group's report on Social Economic Education Employment Political and Caste (SEEEPC). Ms. Kavitha added that she had written a letter requesting BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao to put pressure on the Centre to approve the BC Bills. She suggested that he take a special initiative to get the Bills approved, which would be his first victory as BJP chief. Regarding the rail roko call, she warned that every train going to Delhi would be stopped on that day. When asked if BRS would support the move, she confirmed that her party would indeed support it.

Youth, student leaders from city join Telangana Jagruthi

HYDERABAD Several youth and student leaders from Kukatpally, Serilingampally, Jubilee Hills and Patancheru constituencies joined Telangana Jagruthi in the presence of its president and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha here on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Kavitha said the Telangana society has given two visionaries, one of them was former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, and the other being BRS founder-president K. Chandrasekhar Rao. She stated that it was from the thought process of late Prof. K. Jayashankar and Mr. Rao that Telangana Jagruthi took shape in 2006 with the agenda of protecting the cultural identity of Telangana, which was facing threat of existence due to the cultural onslaught of Seemandhra leaders high-handedness in the politics of combined Andhra Pradesh. Turning to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, she said that it is unfortunate that a person who had never uttered the Jai Telangana slogan is at the helm of State's affairs today, and except use of filthy language against his political opponents, he had learnt nothing.

Kavitha asks govt. to release White Paper on debts raised

BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha demanded that the government release a White Paper on the ₹2 lakh debt raised by the government since it came to power. She claimed the government has achieved a milestone in raising debts in a record time, and said it was the responsibility of the government to explain where the funds were utilised. Addressing the media on Thursday, she said despite raising such huge loans there is no single scheme launched for the previous ones fulfilled. She termed a big lie the government's claims that the borrowings were being used to pay interest and principle amount of the ₹8 lakh crore debt left over by the BRS regime. She claimed that the BRS earned an 'A' grade from the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) for timely payments but the Congress government has failed to clear dues of ₹1,321 crore. Ms. Kavitha said the then chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had set 2035 as the deadline to repay loans of the Kaleshwaram project but the Congress government had restructured to be paid till 2040. The MLC claimed that large-scale corruption by paying advances to favoured contractors was the sole aim of the government rather than paying back the loans. She alleged that ₹1,200 crore has already been paid for Kodangal Lift Irrigation scheme and the contracts were given to MEIL and Raghava Constructions, owned by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.
