Eluru police step up Shakti squad patrolling to protect women
In an effort to enhance the safety of women and girls, the Eluru district police have intensified patrols and awareness campaigns through the Shakti squad. Acting on the instructions of District Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore, the initiatives are being led by M. Subbarao, inspector of the Eluru women police station. In Eluru town, the Shakti squad has been actively patrolling around schools and colleges. As part of their outreach, they visited institutions like C.R. Reddy Women's Degree College and informed students about the Shakti toll-free helpline number 7993485111 and explained how it could be used during emergencies. Using the Abhaya awareness vehicle, the team conducted sessions on various critical issues, including cybercrimes, online fraud, harassment of women, and methods of self-defence. They also addressed the issue of inappropriate behaviour by miscreants near educational institutions, interacted with girl students, and encouraged them to report safety concerns without hesitation. s. Police form Eluru Disaster Response Force amid rising Godavari flood levels
Eluru district police have constituted the Eluru Disaster Response Force (EDRF) to undertake rescue and rehabilitation operations during floods, heavy rains and other natural calamities. The newly-formed force comprises police personnel from various cadres trained in flood rescue techniques, including operations in canals, streams, and the Godavari. 'With the Godavari flood level on the rise, an alert has been issued across the district. We are coordinating closely with the Central Water Commission (CWC), Irrigation, Revenue, Fisheries departments, village sarpanches, and community heads,' said Eluru Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore. Police have been instructed to regularly collect updates on rainfall, water levels at Bhadrachalam, outflows from the Taliperu Project, and rainfall data in catchment areas in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.'Our personnel have been trained in swimming, flood rescue, and managing cyclone shelters. The EDRF aims to be the first responder during disasters,' the SP added. Papikondalu Tour Suspended Due to rising water levels, the popular Papikondalu river tour has been temporarily suspended, confirmed Polavaram DSP M. Venkateswara Rao. Fishermen and locals have been cautioned against entering the river in countryboats. Control rooms along the river bund are actively monitoring boat movement and the situation in vulnerable areas. 'At the recent flood preparedness meeting, we reviewed boat availability, deployment of expert swimmers, strengthening river bunds, arranging sandbags, cyclone shelter readiness, medical teams, and patrols in flood-prone villages,' the SP said. Currently, the Godavari's flood level has reached 28 metres at the Polavaram project, with nearly two lakh cusecs being discharged downstream. While there is no immediate threat to the Agency mandals, residents in low-lying areas have been advised to move to safer locations.

Athlete coach of a sports school booked under POCSO Act for ‘behaving indecently' with girl students in Eluru district
The Eluru Two Town police registered a case against an athlete coach of a sports school, who allegedly behaved indecently with the girl students. The accused, N.V. Vinayak Prasad, allegedly sexually abused an athlete, who was studying in the school located in the town, a few days ago. The coach asked the minor girl to come to his room and touched her inappropriately, though she resisted and pleaded to leave her, it was alleged. The girl complained about the misbehaviour of the athlete coach to the higher authorities, who enquired and confirmed sexual harassment in the government sports school. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case under POCSO Act and other Sections and took up investigation, said Eluru district Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore. 'We are investigating the case. Police will record the statement of the victim. The accused will be arrested soon,' Mr. Pratap Shiva Kishore told The Hindu on Sunday.

Eluru district police in Andhra Pradesh launch AI-based complaint registration system for efficient grievance redressal
The Eluru district police have developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based complaint registration system, which is first of its kind in the State. The AI Bot grievance registration has been launched in the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) on Monday. In the AI Bot system, complainants can submit their grievance digitally as per the choice of their dialect, which will automatically generate the complaint as per the procedure. The new AI-based PGRS has been introduced under the supervision of the Eluru district police. 'The Artificial Intelligence grievance registration system has been launched as a pilot project. Through AI Bot, the complainant can directly interact, present the grievance and record the voice,' said Eluru district Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore. The AI Bot project will increase responsibility and accountability on the police officers. The officers will solve the complaint in the stipulated time, the SP said. 'AI Bot will ask questions, clarify doubts and gather complete information while registering the complaint,' Mr. Pratap Shiva Kishore told The Hindu. Additional Superintendent of Police N.S.S. Shekhar, spoke with the complainants, who registered their grievances online through AI Bot, and assured to solve the grievances. 'We received 39 complaints on land and family disputes, fake transactions, cybercrimes and other issues,' the SP said. 'The AI-based complaint registration system will enhance transparency, digital evidence and render justice to the complainants,' a petitioner, who submitted the grievance online said.

A.P. police to hold survey of migrant workers
The Andhra Pradesh police will hold a survey of migrant labourers at village, mandal, division and district levels. The survey is in response to an alert issued by the Centre on illegal immigrants in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir. According to sources, A.P. has over five lakh workers from West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and other States. They work in agriculture, catering, hotels and restaurants, spinning mills, sand quarries, aqua companies, brick kilns, construction, decoration and other sectors. Speaking to The Hindu, Inspector General of Police (IGP-Eluru Range) G.V.G. Ashok Kumar said instructions have been given to hold a survey of migrant labourers staying in villages. 'The police will verify the Aadhaar cards of the workers; their native State or country; companies employing them; the duration of their stay in A.P.; whether they are residing alone or with families; if they are involved in any cases; and other details,' he said. 'The Intelligence, Task Force, District Security Wing, Special Branch, Counter Intelligence and the Law and Order police have been tasked with conducting the survey,' an Intelligence officer said on condition of anonymity. Eluru Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore said the police will hold the survey without disturbing the public. 'We will find out who engage the labourers for work and verify their ID cards,' Mr. Pratap Shiva Kishore said. Meanwhile, the police have bound over Bangladesh and Myanmar nationals who were take into custody in Krishna district a couple of days ago. 'We bound over all the 12 persons staying illegally without any documents and sent them to a refugee camp in Hyderabad,' said Krishna SP R. Gangadhar Rao said on Sunday (May 25).
