Govt. wants to ensure land for all eligible families: Minister
The government is committed to ensuring land for all eligible families, said Revenue Minister K. Rajan. Speaking at the inauguration of a taluk-level land title deeds distribution fair held at the Thrissur Town Hall on Monday, the Minister stated that, for the first time in 64 years, the government is preparing to amend land records legislation to resolve long-pending issues — such as ownership determination of rubber plantations. He added that the income limit for families eligible for pattayam (land title) is being raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh. With the implementation of the Pattaya Dashboard system, the government has been able to proactively identify landless individuals and distribute titles accordingly, in a door-to-door manner. The Minister noted that once the ongoing digital resurvey is completed, the process of issuing pattayams will be significantly expedited. During this government's term alone, around 3,000 pattayams were distributed in the district. The government is also taking steps to accelerate the Revenue Department's operations through the introduction of digital revenue cards and DigiLocker integration. A total of 978 land titles were distributed during the taluk-level pattayam mela at the Town Hall. Long-standing land issues of residents from Ollur Navajyoti, Shanthinagar, Pattalakkunnu, Avanoor Ambedkar Nagar, Ittapara Nagar, and Kavinagar (Mayiladumkunnu) in Thangalur village were resolved during the event. Land titles were granted to 57 beneficiaries in the Thrissur assembly constituency, 274 in Ollur, 166 in Nattika, and 35 in Manalur through the Land Tribunal system. Additionally, 387 Devaswom land titles were distributed — 72 in Manalur, 168 in Ollur, 63 in Thrissur, and 84 in Nattika. Another 59 titles for puramboke land were also issued. To address the forest land issues in the district, a special office was set up, and around 10 survey teams conducted inspections under the leadership of the District Collector. As a result, 4,118 applications were sent to the central government on June 25, the Minister said. Further land distribution fairs will be held in various taluks in the coming days. Earlier, the Minister had distributed pattayams to 63 families residing in Irumbupalam and Chuvannamannu Rajeev Dasalaksham Nagar in the Pananchery village. The event was presided over by MLA P. Balachandran, with MLA, C.C. Mukundan as chief guest.

Townships for landslides-affected will be completed by December, says Rajan
Minister for Revenue and Housing said that the proposed township for the survivors of the Chooralmala-Mundakkai landslides, which is being built at Elstone Estate in Kalpetta, will be completed by the end of the year. Overseeing the ongoing construction work on Friday, the Minister said that the government would not abandon the people of Padavettikkunnu, who had not been included on the list of beneficiaries. He said their demands would be positively considered. The township is expected to accommodate 1,662 people in 410 houses. Of these, the seven-cent plots have been divided for 140 houses while the foundation work has been completed for 51 houses. The Dynamic Cone Penetration Test has been completed for 54 houses while plain cement concrete work has been completed for 41 of them. The foundation works for 19 houses are in progress. Plot division and preparation for the second phase is progressing fast. A model house will be completed by the end of July despite the adverse climate, the Minister said. At present 110 employees are stationed at Elstone Estate for construction activities. More employees will be deployed soon to speed up the work. The township is being built in five zones. Of the 410 houses, 140 are in Zone 1, 51 in Zone 2, 55 in Zone 3, 51 in Zone 4, and 113 in Zone 5. Works on three zones will begin simultaneously in July. The other infrastructure in the township will be set up only after the works of the houses are completed. 'There is a separate account for the funds collected for the construction of the houses. It has not been merged with the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund. There is a committee comprising the Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition and a representative of the sponsors, to monitor the said account. The committee will ensure transparency. Anybody can verify the accounts,' Mr. Rajan said. He added that a complete list of the sponsors will be displayed at the township. The Minister also warned those who received land and house from voluntary organisations to verify the validity of the documents. He said that the government would continue to distribute the daily allowance of ₹300 to the deserving survivors of the landslide. District Collector R. Meghasree, Additional District Magistrate K. Devaki, Subcollector Misal Sagar Bharath, and Assistant Collector P.P. Archana were present at the press meet.

It's rejuvenation time for jumbos of Guruvayur Devaswom
The annual rejuvenation therapy for elephants under the Guruvayur Devaswom began at the Punnathur Kotta elephant sanctuary on Tuesday. Revenue Minister K. Rajan formally inaugurated the month-long wellness programme by feeding medicinal rice balls (oushadha chooru) to tuskers Vinayakan and Junior Vishnu. The initiative, aimed at promoting the health and vitality of temple elephants, continues with all elephants receiving similar treatment. The event was presided over by Guruvayur Devaswom chairman Dr. V.K. Vijayan, with MLA N.K. Akbar as the chief guest. 35 Years of Wellness The Guruvayur Devaswom has been conducting this scientific wellness regimen for over 35 years. Though the practice existed during the Zamorin era, it was formally structured into a scientific programme in the 1990s. The therapy includes a specially prepared herbal and nutritional diet, physical exercises, and Ayurvedic treatments tailored to each elephant's specific condition. Blood and dung samples are collected for lab tests to assess liver and kidney function, and pre-therapy purgation medicines are administered. The regimen also involves regular massages and bathing rituals. A team of veterinary experts, including Dr. P.B. Giridas, Dr. T.S. Rajeev, Dr. M.N. Devan Namboothiri, and Dr. K. Vivek, supervise the programme. Veterinary specialists have noted significant health improvements among the elephants following therapy, with visible changes in skin condition and a weight gain of up to 300 kg in some cases. The Guruvayur model is now considered a benchmark in elephant care and wellness, according to devaswom sources . Therapy budget The estimated cost for this year's therapy is ₹12.5 lakh, covering the needs of 36 elephants. Key ingredients include 3,240 kg of rice, 1,080 kg each of green gram and finger millet (ragi), 108 kg each of turmeric powder and Ashtachoornam, 270 kg of Chyavanaprasam, along with minerals and purgative herbal formulations.

KSRTC electric buses proposed inside Puthur Zoological Park
A team led by Revenue Minister K. Rajan visited the Puthur Zoological Park on Sunday (June 29) to conduct a feasibility study for operating KSRTC electric buses within the park premises. The initiative aims to enhance transport convenience for visitors, especially those who may find walking the park's 6.5 km stretch challenging. The team included KSRTC Managing Director Pramoj Shankar and officials from the Revenue, Forest, and Transport departments. The visit follows a high-level meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram, attended by Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran, Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar, and departmental officials, where it was decided to explore the possibility of using electric buses within the park. The buses will operate on a loop inside the park, starting near the ticket counter, with stops at designated points where passengers can hop on and off. With a single ticket, visitors can explore various sections of the zoo, reboarding the bus at each stop to continue their journey. There are also discussions on introducing open-top KSRTC vehicles from Thrissur city to Puthur Zoo as part of a tourism circuit. Mr. Rajan also announced that 37 new species of animals and birds, including those not currently found in Kerala zoos, will be introduced to the Puthur facility. These include exotic species like macaws, cockatoos, anacondas, African elands, zebras, and giraffes, to be brought in from abroad and other States in five phases within this year. Meanwhile, works for the safari zoo and animal enclosures are progressing, with construction tenders expected to be finalised soon. The pet zoo and virtual zoo —features designed especially for children — are also in the implementation stage.
