BJP wants govt. to make public river water utilisation plans

The BJP has demanded the Congress government to put before the people about its plans to make full use of the allotted 299 TMC of Krishna River water and also the projected use of the Godavari River waters for the benefit of farmers of Telangana. Addressing a press conference at the State office on Wednesday, general secretary K. Venkateswarlu and secretary S. Prakash Reddy said the current government and the BRS government had totally failed to protect the interests of the State in not completing the pending projects on time but have been blaming the Centre for political gain. 'Has the BRS government before or the Congress government now ever informed the people about how they intend to make use of the river waters? After utterly failing to make such plans, they are going on criticising the Centre to provoke regional sentiments,' they said. The Centre had already rejected the A.P. government's Banakacherla project but both the Congress and BRS parties have been continuing their tirade. 'The Centre will take the right decision at the right time following a scientific study and considering the interests of the States involved. Meanwhile it is better for the government to focus on taking up repairs of existing projects showing wear and tear,' attested the leaders. The party also charged the government of putting farmers under distress due to the shoddy fertiliser supply due to the bankruptcy of Markfed despite the Centre ensuring adequate supply this year. Mr. Venkateshwarlu and Mr. Reddy said the government cannot shift the responsibility on the Centre when it has to see that the fertiliser distribution is done efficiently as more than 12 lakh tonnes valued at about ₹16,000 crore have been supplied to TG with up to 30,000 tonnes on the standby at a subsidised cost. The government has also failed in taking stringent action against the dealers supplying spurious seeds despite complaints, they added.
