EAC's Banakacherla rejection just comma, not full stop: CM Revanth Reddy

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday described the Expert Appraisal Committee's (EAC) rejection of the Godavari-Banakacherla Link Project proposal as a temporary setback for Andhra Pradesh, stating, 'It's a comma, not a full stop.' He said that Andhra Pradesh will resubmit the proposal with clarifications to address EAC's concerns because Prime Minister Narendra Modi's survival depends on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, whose own survival hinges on the Godavari-Banakacherla Link Project. 'They are political linkages like rivers linkage,' he remarked. Revanth Reddy accused former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and BRS MLA T Harish Rao of betraying Telangana's interests in the allocation of Godavari and Krishna river waters. He alleged that KCR agreed to a reduced water share, effectively 'mortgaging' Telangana's rights. He claimed that Telangana, with 68% of the Krishna river's catchment area, should have received 555 tmcft of water as per international water laws, but the BRS government settled for only 299 tmcft, which the state never fully utilised, peaking at 220 tmcft due to incomplete projects. On the Godavari, the chief minister said that of the 1,486 tmcft water available, Telangana was allocated 968 tmcft and Andhra Pradesh 518 tmcft. He slammed KCR for redesigning the Congress-initiated Pranahita-Chevella project into the Kaleshwaram project, escalating costs from Rs 38,000 crore to Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with only 168 tmcft of water having been lifted so far. He also pointed out that in 2016, KCR claimed 3,000 tmcft of Godavari water was going waste, prompting Andhra Pradesh to plan the diversion of 400 tmcft to the Penna basin.

'People disillusioned with Cong govt'

HYDERABAD: Former minister and BRS leader T Harish Rao said people were disillusioned with the Congress govt in the state as the ruling party had failed to fulfil its promises. "After seeing the 18 months of Revanth Reddy 's rule, people have realised difference between Revanth Reddy and KCR's governance," he said. Speaking at a meeting in Sangareddy district on Wednesday where Congress youth leader Patola Prashanth Reddy joined the BRS, Harish Rao said the Congress govt discontinued the welfare schemes implemented by the BRS govt, such as KCR Kit, Bathukamma sarees, and diesel amount for gram panchayat tractors. But the Congress govt did not release the Rythu Bharosa amount to the farmers last year for two seasons," the ex-minister said. Harish Rao, accepting the challenge by TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, said he was ready to debate on the welfare schemes anywhere and ready to prove the difference between the BRS and Congress govts.

Chandrababu Naidu diverted water as KCR was silent: CM Revanth Reddy

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has challenged former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to a debate in the Assembly on the sharing of Godavari and Krishna river waters. 'If you have the courage, come for a debate in the Assembly on this matter. Write to the Speaker to convene a special session on any date you choose. Let us debate and discuss,' Revanth said while addressing the 'Rythu Bharosa Vijayotsava Sabha' near the Secretariat on Tuesday. Revanth also accused BRS leaders of spreading misinformation that he was supporting Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the construction of the Godavari-Banakacherla project. 'If I had wanted to stay with Chandrababu Naidu, I would have done so. I joined the Congress to support Sonia Gandhi and bring a government that serves the people. Is it not true that in 2016, Chandrababu issued a GO to divert 400 tmcft of Godavari water to Handri-Neeva through Banakacherla? This was because KCR claimed there was 3,000 tmcft in the Godavari. Let us discuss Godavari and Krishna waters in the Assembly. I challenge you to this debate,' he said. KCR's decision to accept 299 tmcft water share a death warrant for TG: CM The chief minister alleged that KCR compromised Telangana's share of Krishna waters. 'KCR has signed a death warrant for Telangana by agreeing to only 299 tmcft out of the 811 tmcft allocated to undivided Andhra Pradesh by the Bachawat Tribunal. Though 68% of the Krishna catchment area in undivided AP lies in Telangana, only 299 tmcft was accepted by the state. As per international water laws, 555 tmcft should have come to Telangana,' he said. 'Is it not true that Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages have collapsed? Is it not true that some farmers have said that there would be nothing wrong if KCR was hanged at Chinna Kaleshwaram for this failure? Even after spending Rs 2 lakh crore on the project, why are the projects incomplete? Have you completed a single project in 10 years?' he asked.

Come, let's debate Banakacherla project in House: CM Revanth Reddy to K Chandrasekhar Rao; says he betrayed Sonia Gandhi, gave away Telangana's water share

HYDERABAD: A day after state cabinet decided to submit full details of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme to the Justice PC Ghose Commission, chief minister A Revanth Reddy Tuesday threw down the gauntlet to former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao for debate in the assembly. The debate, he said, should be centered on "who truly bartered away Telangana's river water interests". He said the aim was to let the people know who the 'Telangana traitor' is, and who signed the 'death warrant' for farmers by surrendering the state's river water interests to Andhra Pradesh. "I challenge KCR to write to the assembly speaker to convene a two-day special session to debate who is responsible for the Banakacherla project. He can choose the date and time. I'll come with proof - official documents, signatures, and Apex Council minutes - to expose how KCR had surrendered Telangana's share of Krishna and Godavari waters to Andhra Pradesh. Let people decide who are 'Telangana drohulu' (traitors) and 'Godavari dongalu' (thieves)," Revanth said, addressing a gathering at the Rythu Bharosa Vijayotsava rally at the secretariat. "Soniamma gave Telangana statehood. As a son of Soniamma, and with the blessings of the late Rajiv Gandhi, I joined Congress and stood with the people to bring Congress to power. Today, while KCR gave away Telangana's water share, irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and I made it clear to the Union jal shakti minister that Telangana will approach the Supreme Court if the Centre supports AP's water claims," Revanth asserted. He alleged the Banakacherla project was conceptualised in 2016 following KCR's advice to AP that 3,000 tmcft of Godavari water was being wasted into the sea. "KCR extended full cooperation to divert water to Rayalaseema, which he called 'Ratnalaseema'. He consented to Telangana getting just 299 tmcft of Krishna water, while AP got 512 tmcft. As per river-sharing norms, Telangana deserves 555 tmcft, as 66% of the Krishna basin falls within Telangana," Revanth pointed out. On BRS's claim that 2 lakh crore was spent on irrigation projects, Revanth alleged most of it went to contractors and commissions. "If that money was truly invested in irrigation, Congress-initiated projects like Nettempadu, Kalwakurthy, Bima, and others wouldn't have remained incomplete," he said. Revanth reaffirmed that the Congress govt was committed to making agriculture a celebration for farmers. "Telangana farmers turned KCR into 'Ravanasurudu' and sent him back to his farmhouse," he said.

Farmers' welfare our priority: CM

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said the state government spent a whopping Rs 1.04 lakh crore on the welfare of farmers in the last 18 months. Speaking at the Rythu Nestam programme, which was organised to celebrate the disbursement of Rs 9,000 crore in just nine days under the Rythu Bharosa scheme to farmers, the CM said: 'Our top priorities are farmers, women, Telangana martyrs, students, and the youth of the state." Revanth Reddy said that under various initiatives such as farmers financial assurance (Rythu Bharosa), farm loan waiver, free electricity for the agricultural sector, sprinklers, drip systems, ST Giri Vikasam pump sets, MSP, and bonuses on superfine rice, the Congress government had spent Rs 1.04 lakh crore within 18 months of assuming power in the state. 'Congress government implemented its promise to waive farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh by spending Rs 25,000 crore to free 25 lakh farmers from debt. The people's government also procured every grain of paddy at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), disbursing funds within 48 hours and paying a promised Rs 500 bonus on superfine rice,' he said. Revanth Reddy emphasized that the struggles of Telangana always centered around land and farming rights. He recalled that with the support of Sonia Gandhi, the then chief minister of united Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, had announced free power for farmers. Delivering a sharp critique of former chief minister and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), Revanth Reddy challenged KCR to engage with him in a detailed debate about the decline of the agriculture sector, unfinished irrigation projects, and the sharing of Krishna and Godavari waters, all of which, he argued, had suffered in Telangana during the ten years of BRS rule. The CM criticized KCR for leaving the state's economy in shambles, likening it to a cancer patient now. Reddy emphasized that while the state had a surplus of Rs 16,000 crore at the time of its formation, it has now accumulated a debt of Rs 8 lakh crore within ten years of BRS rule. Revanth Reddy alleged that KCR and his associates amassed wealth exceeding that of Nizams (erstwhile rulers of Hyderabad state), becoming affluent, while the state has been pushed into a debt trap. He accused the BRS supremo of deceiving farmers with a loan waiver scheme amounting to Rs 1 lakh, which included accrued interest. Regarding government job appointments, Revanth Reddy stated that 60,000 vacancies had been filled, and appointment letters were distributed. He challenged KCR to reveal how many vacancies had been filled during the ten years of BRS rule. He accused KCR of allowing the AP to go ahead with several projects on the Krishna River during the 10 years of his regime while neglecting the completion of pending irrigation projects in Telangana. The state government had cautioned the Centre against giving permission to the Godavari-Banakacherla project proposed by the AP government, he said.
