Parliament panels to review civil aviation safety, AI171 crash next week

At least two parliamentary panels are slated to undertake a review of India's aviation sector next week. On 9 July, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture will hear the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation on the subject of 'Overall review of safety in the civil aviation sector', according to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. Janata Dal (United) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Jha-led panel's scheduled interaction with the Civil Aviation Ministry Secretary will come less than a month after the crash of Air India flight AI171. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner went down moments after take-off from Ahmedabad on 12 June, killing 241 people on board. At its meeting on 8 July, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which Congress' K C Venugopal heads, will seek oral evidence from representatives of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA), Airports Authority of India (AAI), AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Ltd (AAICLAS), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and other concerned organisations, including airport operators and airlines, on the subject of 'Levy and regulation of fees, tariffs, user charges etc. on public infrastructure and other public utilities'. The overall safety of the civil aviation sector is also likely to come up during the PAC's discussions, sources said.

"Insult to Constitution, attack on SC": KC Venugopal slams RSS' Hosabale over preamble remarks

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], June 27 (ANI): Senior Congress leader and MP KC Venugopal lashed out at the RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's statement and claimed that the leader's remarks were an insult to the Constitution, a rejection of its values, and a direct attack on the Supreme Court. This came after RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale questioned the legitimacy of including the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution on Thursday. In a post on X, Venugopal said, 'The RSS' single-minded focus to destroy the Constitution is never hidden for too long. Beyond the BJP's lip service to the Constitution, their hidden agenda has always been to distort and destroy our Constitution - because it stands against the core fascist beliefs of the RSS-BJP.' 'A senior RSS member surely knows that the Supreme Court declared socialism and secularism to be part of the basic structure of the Constitution. Yet, to take this stand is a clear insult to the Constitution, a rejection of its values, and a direct attack on the Supreme Court of India as well,' he posted on X. Speaking to mediapersons over Hosabale's statement, KC Venugopal said, 'Undeclared censorship has been there in this country now. Over the past 11 years, India has experienced a kind of undeclared emergency. Where are our constitutional bodies? What are the activities of the Election Commission itself? Every constitutional body that has been attacked by the BJP and PM Modi.' 'The constitutional values have been under attack. That is why we are undertaking the 'Samvidhan Bachao Yatra,' which has covered around 689 places at the district level. We are now moving to the assembly constituency level. That is why the BJP is on the back foot. To cover up their failures, they are trying to do all these dramas,' he added. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also slammed RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale. He said that the RSS has never accepted the Constitution, attacking its framers from the beginning and criticised it for not being 'inspired by Manusmriti.' Ramesh also highlighted a 2024 Supreme Court judgement regarding challenging the 1976 Constitutional Amendment, which inserted the words. The SC, however, said that the arguments in the case had 'obvious' flaws and weaknesses. 'The Chief Justice of India himself delivered a judgment on November 25, 2024, on the issue now being raised by a leading RSS functionary. Would it be asking too much to request him to take the trouble to read it?' the Congress leader said. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Friday also launched a sharp attack on RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, alleging that his recent remarks reflected a 'hidden agenda' to change the Constitution of India. Tiwari claimed the people had rejected this plan during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Dattatreya Hosabale had earlier stated that the Emergency imposed in the country on June 25, 1975, was the 'biggest blow to Indian democracy.' Hosabale was addressing a program on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, jointly organised by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (under the Ministry of Culture), Ambedkar International Centre. He remarked that during the Emergency, terms like 'Socialism' and 'Secularism' were forcibly inserted into the Constitution -- a move that needs to be reconsidered today. He emphasised that the Emergency wasn't just a misuse of power, but an attempt to crush civil liberties. Millions were imprisoned and freedom of the press was suppressed. He said that those who imposed the Emergency and trampled the Constitution and democracy have never apologised. If they cannot apologise personally, they should do so on behalf of their ancestors. CM should write to Prez against guv: Venugopal

Kottayam: AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said that the governor is degrading the constitutional position he holds. He demanded that chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan should write to the President about it. Venugopal told reporters in Alappuzha on Saturday that the post of the governor is the highest constitutional post in a state. "He has decided to forfeit its value. It is not a post that should be used for selfish political interests. The President should intervene in such matters. The CM should write a letter to the President at the earliest, pointing out that the governor is misusing his post," he said. Venugopal also asked why the CM is not ready for it. He said that the finance minister's announcement that welfare pension will be provided from the 20th of this month was only to influence the voters of Nilambur and misuse the election. This is a blatant violation of the election code of conduct. The Election Commission should take this seriously. The UDF will consider filing a complaint, he said. He said that during the Nilambur byelection, he strongly criticised the way welfare pension is being distributed in arrears. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo "Welfare pension is the right of the common man. They are entitled to receive it without arrears. This is the govt that came to power saying that welfare pension would be increased to Rs 2,500. Now, even as their term is about to end, it is only Rs 1,600," he added. Venugopal said UDF is confident that it will win the Nilambur byelection. "It is because of this certainty that the LDF has not paid the pension. There has never been another election where there was so much unity in the UDF. The Muslim League was more enthusiastic than the Congress. Sadikkali Thangal and P K Kunhalikutty worked as if it were their own election. The IUML cadres worked with more enthusiasm than they would have worked for an IUML candidate. All the leaders and cadres of the Congress worked together in unison," Venugopal said. The AICC general secretary also said Shashi Tharoor is an indivisible factor of the Congress. "Congress is a party that ensures freedom of expression. Congress has its own ideas and goals. Everyone has instructions to go along with it. The party has the right to take action if that 'Lakshman Rekha' is violated anywhere. Congress is not a party that violates anyone's freedom of expression and freedom of movement," Venugopal said in response to a question.

3,500 youths got letters at job fair held on Rahul Gandhi's birthday: Indian Youth Congress

NEW DELHI: The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Thursday claimed that thousands of young job-seekers turned up at its 'Mega Job Fair' held at the Talkatora Stadium here to mark the 55th birthday of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Calling the event a "historic platform for employment", the IYC, which is the youth wing of the main opposition Congress party, said over 100 companies participated in the fair, offering more than 5,000 job opportunities. "Preparations were in full swing in every corner… and now history is being made. Talkatora Stadium has become the biggest platform for employment today," the youth wing said in a post on X. According to the IYC, over 8,500 youths registered for the job fair and nearly 7,500 of them were interviewed. Around 3,500 job seekers received appointment letters on the spot, while several others were called for a second round of interviews by the HR representatives of companies. It said 170 companies participated in the recruitment process. Several senior Congress leaders, including AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, Sachin Pilot, Kanhaiya Kumar, Devender Yadav and Supriya Shrinate, were present at the event. Venugopal said unemployment is the most pressing issue facing youth today and alleged that the BJP had failed to deliver on its promise of providing two crore jobs annually.
