Cox fiber line cut at Polk-Quincy Viaduct project in Topeka causes service outage
TOPEKA (KSNT) – Some Cox customers in the north Topeka area experiencing a loss of services Monday following an accident at the site of a major highway project. Christine Martin with Cox Communications told 27 News on June 23 that a construction crew cut the company's fiber lines in north Topeka. She said repairs are underway with the objective of restoring services soon. 'Our goal is to get customers back online shortly,' Martin said. 'We understand how important connectivity is for our customers and we apologize for any inconvenience.' Kate Craft with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) said the damage occurred on the morning of June 23 in the ongoing Polk-Quincy Viaduct Project on I-70. She said the damage was caused during grading work on the project. Crash shuts down I-70 near Junction City
JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) – A major highway in Kansas is shut down in both directions Friday due to a crash near Junction City. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is reporting through KanDrive that east and westbound I-70 is closed near the 299 exit in Junction City on June 13. A crash is being reported in this area that has resulted in the closure. Drivers are encouraged to take an alternate route at this time. 21-mile highway shutdown delayed in central Kansas
MORRIS COUNTY (KSNT) – A road work project that would have created a nearly 70-mile detour in central Kansas is officially delayed. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) announced on social media that a road work project set for K-177 Highway is delayed until next year. The project was originally set to start on June 16 and lead to the closure of 21 miles of K-177 between Strong City and Council Grove, creating a large detour route. Kansas firework stands will open for 9 extra days this year, here's why KDOT reported the replacement of the K-177 bridge over Fourmile Creek, part of the same overall project, is also delayed. Work on the bridge is currently set to begin in August 2025. Drivers were told to expect around 45 minutes of additional time on the road due to the shutdown of K-177. Fort Scott bridge repairs begin this week
BOURBON CO., Kan. — The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to begin a bridge repair project starting this week. KDOT crews will work on the U.S. 69 bridge over Wall Street in Fort Scott, patching and resurfacing the bridge deck. Drivers can expect delays up to 15 minutes, as traffic will be one lane through the work zone. Crews encourage drivers and motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs. KDOT changes weekend closure plans for I-135 in Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has updated its construction plans for Interstate 135 in north Wichita, scaling back a full weekend closure that was originally scheduled. Flooded in Butler County? Here's how to report damage Southbound I-135 will still close this weekend for pavement patching and barrier wall adjustments, but northbound lanes will remain open — a change from earlier announcements. The updated plan means that starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, June 7, southbound I-135 will close from the K-254 interchange to just past the K-96 interchange. Several ramps will also be closed, including: Westbound K-96 to southbound I-135 K-254 to southbound I-135 The loop ramp from southbound I-235 to North Broadway All affected lanes and ramps are expected to reopen by Sunday afternoon, June 8. A full closure of I-135 in both directions is now expected next weekend, on Saturday, June 14, to allow for additional pavement work and a bridge deck pour, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to follow posted detour signs, allow extra travel time, and use caution in the work zone. For real-time traffic updates, visit or call 5-1-1. KDOT says this change in schedule is meant to minimize traffic disruption while allowing construction crews to continue needed repairs.
