"I think we start speaking on him in another light" - KG on what a ring could mean for Edwards or Haliburton
Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers and Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves are some of the brightest young NBA stars today. However, one of them could be the talk of the town soon, especially if they become a champion at the season's end. Edwards has been making waves in the NBA, but recognition as one of the top stars is still lacking. According to NBA legend Kevin Garnett, that should all change if the Timberwolves guard can lead his team to a title. Advertisement "I think that if Anthony Edwards is somehow, someway figures this out and be able to get Minnesota its first championship, I think it takes him to another…I think we start speaking on him in another light," Garnett said about Edwards on "KG Certified." "The Big Ticket" offered the same take on Haliburton. Already impressed with the level of play of the 12th overall pick of the 2020 Draft, Tyrese could be ranked among the top stars if he managed to lead Indiana to the championship. "Haliburton is not in that huge market. Edwards is not in that huge market either. But he's so vibrant that he's top-tier. If anybody can come out of this on top, and let's just say it's Indiana, Haliburton becomes that deal," KG pointed out. Edwards and Haliburton earned rare recognition in 2024 Ironically, there is one thing that Anthony and Tyrese share that most may have overlooked. Both were part of the 2024 Team USA that won the gold in the Paris Olympics, being the only players retained from the disappointing squad that finished fourth in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Advertisement Considering the U.S. team had LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, most overlooked these two young stars. However, it was a testament that their skills were recognized, and now they are showing why. Haliburton has come into his own with the Pacers. He has been the spark for Rick Carlisle thus far, and if he and the Pacers stay the course, they could be representing the Eastern Conference in the Finals. So far, the Pacers hold a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals over the New York Knicks. Those two wins were collected at Madison Square Garden, and two more victories would push them to the grand stage. They dropped their first two games to the surging Oklahoma City Thunder but managed to take Game 3 to avoid a huge hole. Advertisement After a dismal Game 1, Ant made up for his poor performance with a couple of 30+ performances. However, with his teammates failing to step up or provide support, the top pick of the 2020 Draft will have to do more to push the T-Wolves to the Finals. Although nothing is set, seeing a final featuring the Pacers and the Timberwolves would be something special and unexpected. It would be a battle featuring some of the top American young stars of today, something that would catapult their respective basketball careers to the next level. Paul Pierce backs Tyrese Haliburton as the young star with the most to gain in 2025
(Image Source - Getty Images) Tyrese Haliburton was deemed overrated. Now, he's the clutchest player still in the postseason. He is flipping every story that doubted him, and Paul Pierce is aware of it. As the Indiana Pacers move through one playoff round after another, the former Celtics icon believes no young talent has more to lose or gain than Haliburton. And with each game-winning shot, he's making Pierce look like a seer. Tyrese Haliburton is turning doubt into dominance The 2025 NBA Playoffs have really been a stage for Haliburton to shine. After being labeled as the "most overrated" in a poll by The Athletic, the 25-year-old point guard for the Indiana Pacers didn't just talk the talk—he walked the walk with some incredible performances. He finished off Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks with a clutch layup in Game 5. Then, against the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers, he nailed a game-winning three-pointer in Game 2 and followed it up with 31 points to clinch the series in Game 5. In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks, Haliburton dropped 31 points and dished out 11 assists. He nailed a buzzer-beater floater to push the game into overtime, then guided the Pacers to an exciting 138–135 victory. No other young star left—whether it's MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Minnesota's up-and-coming star Anthony Edwards , or New York's cherished Jalen Brunson—has performed quite like Haliburton when it's been crucial. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Chegou o Alarme que afasta rapidamente os Ladrões Alarme Verisure Saiba Mais Undo Knicks vs. Pacers Chess Match, OKC Buzzsaw, Outlook for the Nuggets & Celtics | TICKET & THE TRUTH On KG Certified, Paul Pierce said it best: 'He got voted most overrated, which is ridiculous… If he win it? He got the most to gain.' Pierce emphasized that players like Edwards, Gilgeous-Alexander, and Brunson are already household names. Haliburton, on the other hand, still flies under the radar. No signature shoes. No major national marketing deals. Just basketball brilliance in a small market. If Haliburton leads a championship run, he'll jump into a whole new level of superstardom. As he drives Indiana toward what might be just their second-ever NBA Finals appearance, his underdog tale is turning into the most captivating story in basketball. Kevin Garnett Sends Clear Message to Anthony Edwards Amid Ankle Injury
Minnesota Timberwolves icon Kevin Garnett's message to Anthony Edwards should resonate more after the guard's Game 2 injury scare. The star guard went down in the second quarter with an ankle injury after Trayce Jackson-Davis landed on his ankle during a layup attempt. Ant has been dealing with an ankle issue since the Los Angeles Lakers series, which made this scare more serious for many. Initially, he was questionable to return to the game, but he managed to finish the duel as one of the team's leading scorers. Advertisement He dropped 20 points, the same as Nickeil Alexander-Walker and four less than Julius Randle. Edwards added nine rebounds, five assists and three steals on 6-of-13 shooting. After the game was over, Edwards explained how the Wolves' vice president of medical operations and performance, David Hines, helped him make sure he felt good enough to return to the court. "Once we got to like the third movement in my ankle, I'm like, 'All right, it's starting to feel good. If we tape it, I'll see how it feels,'" Edwards said, per ESPN. "[Hines] does a great job of making sure I'm good before I get out there, so big shoutout to David." Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony EdwardsCredit: Jesse Johnson-Imagn Images Garnett, who led the Timberwolves to the Western Conference finals in 2004, is rooting for his former team to go all the way to the NBA Finals. He knows Edwards is the key for the Wolves to challenge for the championship, but he must step up to achieve his goal. Advertisement During Thursday's episode of his "KG Certified" show, the "Big Ticket" urged Edwards to bring the same energy he showed against the Lakers. "Consistency--very hard to do," Garnett said. "To be consistent with bringing a certain level to play, both ends like he puts out, that's a lot. If Minnesota is gonna have a chance, Anthony Edwards is going to bring that same energy he was playing with LeBron and when he was playing Luka. He has to come in here with that. He has to keep his foot on the gas and then the Randles, the McDaniels, 'three DaVinci [DiVincenzo],' all those guys, they follow him when he's like that." The ankle injury raised some eyebrows around the Timberwolves' fan base, but Shams Charania reported on Thursday that Edwards is expected to take the court for Game 3. The Warriors are already dealing with Steph Curry's absence and the Timberwolves losing Edwards would put them in a complex position. Minnesota is eager to recover its home-court advantage, but the Warriors want to get as many benefits as possible from playing in front of their fans on Saturday.
