'Another form of hell': California woman inundated with oversized Amazon returns

One California woman just wanted this 'shipping spree' of hundreds of oversized Amazon packages dropped off at her home to come to a merciful end. She filed six complaint tickets among the numerous calls to Amazon for more than a year. The San Jose woman, who wants to remain anonymous and only identified herself as Kay, said her home address was listed on return labels by a Chinese seller under the name 'Liusandedian' hawking faux-leather car seat covers that in many instances didn't actually fit. 'And every time I was absolutely assured this will stop … you won't get any more of these packages, you'll hear from us in 24, 48 hours…' Kay told ABC affiliate KGO in San Francisco about the packages she had to pile up in her carport. 'What you see now is a fraction, because I have refused delivery on more packages than you see here,' she told the reporter. Start your day with a roundup of B.C.-focused news and opinion. Kay said she was told by Amazon to either give the packages away, donate them, or return them to the U.S. postal service and FedEx. She was even offered a $100 Amazon gift balance for her troubles. 'Why is it my responsibility to get rid of this when your seller is not following your rules, Amazon?' she asked. To make matters worse, customers who returned the product were forced to pay out of pocket to return them to Amazon's 'return centre' — Kay's home. 'Oftentimes, what it costs to return it is about more than 50% of what they paid for it,' Kay said. 'Plus, these consumers aren't getting their money back!' Month after month, Kay came home to parcels dropped off by FedEx or UPS crowding her driveway and doorway. She said it was difficult for her 88-year-old mother to enter the home. 'When we come home, it was like this,' Kay said as packages crowded her doorstep. 'I couldn't even get my mother in the house … it's just been another form of hell.' Amazon responded to KGO's inquiries about Kay's situation and the seller not following the company's return policy, which stipulates international sellers must either provide a U.S. address for returns, issue a 'returnless refund' where the customer isn't required to ship the product back, or provide a pre-paid international shipping label within two days of the return request. 'We'd like to thank ABC 7 On Your Side for bringing this to our attention,' the online retailer said. 'We've apologized to the customer and are working directly with her to pick-up any packages while taking steps to permanently resolve this issue.' Shortly thereafter, Amazon workers removed all of its packages from her property. Kay was thankful for the local outlet's help resolving this mess. 'I am so eternally grateful that you guys are here for us … because reaching out to you, I was in tears that somebody actually got back to me … after a year of trying to get somebody to just listen to me. It was such a relief!'
