KKCCI urges stronger policing to curb rising crime in Kalaburagi
Concerned over the spate of recent criminal incidents in the city, the Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) has urged the District Administration and Police Department to take immediate and stringent measures to restore law and order. In a memorandum submitted on Friday to Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum and Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa, KKCCI president Sharanabasappa M. Pappa and honorary secretary Shivaraj V. Inginshetty expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency and brazenness of crimes being committed in Kalaburagi. Citing a recent robbery in Saraf Bazaar, where armed assailants stormed into a shop in broad daylight, tied up the owner, and threatened him with a firearm before looting valuables, the KKCCI said that such incidents were not only shocking but had left the business community shaken. 'Even though traders have installed CCTV cameras inside and outside their shops as per police instructions, crimes continue to occur unabated, often in crowded areas,' the memorandum said. 'Such incidents are eroding the confidence of traders and pushing them into a state of constant fear and anxiety.' The business body called for intensified police patrolling in commercial areas, especially during peak hours and late evenings. It also demanded swift investigation of criminal cases and the immediate arrest of culprits to serve as a deterrent. The memorandum highlighted that criminal activities were no longer limited to thefts and burglaries but increasingly included cases of assault and even murder in and around the city. To enhance security, the KKCCI urged all traders to thoroughly verify the identity of employees before hiring them. 'Business owners should collect full details including name, permanent address, original Aadhaar copy, and recent photographs of potential employees and ensure their background is verified,' it added. The KKCCI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting law enforcement in ensuring a safe and secure environment for the business community and the general public.

Explore rural tourism, businesses told

He said rural tourism is emerging as a key focus for Sabah and presents untapped opportunities for business involvement. Advertisement Many rural communities, he noted, have already taken the lead in developing community-based tourism, and further support from the private sector would help strengthen and expand these grassroots efforts. Joniston, who also chairs Sabah Tourism Board (STB), said increased business activity in rural areas would contribute to local income opportunities, support overall rural development, and enhance the quality as well as sustainability of existing tourism initiatives. He gave these remarks during a meeting with Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) members, led by its President Datuk Michael Lui, who also presented a token of appreciation to Joniston during the session (pic) . The meeting touched on various matters, including tourism recovery and the importance of collaboration between the government and private sector in supporting events and destination promotion. Michael thanked the Ministry and STB for promoting golf tourism and for the support given to KKCCI's golf event in May, while also commending their continued efforts to bring more tourists into Sabah, which he said has helped boost business confidence in Kota Kinabalu. He noted that the current momentum in tourism is encouraging, especially post-pandemic, and said local businesses are feeling the positive effects, with hopes for continued collaboration to attract both international and domestic tourists to Sabah. Public vigilance crucial in crime control, says police officer
In a meaningful citizen-police engagement event here on Sunday, Inspector of Chowk Police Station Raghavendra Bhajantri interacted with members of various civil society groups and local associations at the S.S. Patil Hall of the Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) in Kalaburagi. The programme was organised to facilitate dialogue between the police and the public on the rising crime rate and the collective efforts needed to maintain safety and order in the city. Inspector Bhajantri was warmly welcomed by KKCCI president Sharanabasappa M. Pappa and other office-bearers. Recalling notable examples of the officer's service, the hosts specifically lauded his swift action to help recover a kidnapped newborn within 24 hours, reuniting the infant with the mother and earning public admiration for his empathetic policing. Addressing a gathering, Inspector Bhajantri expressed concern over the increasing number of criminal incidents in the city. Citing the adage, 'Prevention is better than cure', he emphasized the growing threat of cybercrime driven by misuse of social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and cautious, especially when dealing with unsolicited messages and calls. He also noted a rise in thefts and burglaries, particularly at night, and strongly recommended all shopkeepers and business owners to install CCTV cameras outside their establishments. 'Properly functioning CCTV systems are vital tools in police investigation and they help in quickly identifying and apprehending culprits,' he said. The interaction concluded with a shared commitment to enhance public safety through collaboration, awareness and proactive policing. The event saw participation from numerous representatives of civic groups. KKCCI honorary secretary Shivraj V. Inginashetti, chairman of KKCCI's Civic Affairs Committee Sandeep V. Mishra, event convener Dinesh A. Patil and others were present.

MSMEs Mahotsav 2025 in Kalaburagi tomorrow
In celebration of International MSME Day, the Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI), Kalaburagi, in association with the Kalaburagi Branch of the SIRC of ICAI, is organising 'MSMEs Mahotsav 2025' here on Friday at its office here. Registration will begin at 9.30 a.m., followed by the inaugural ceremony at 10 a.m. KKCCI president Sharanabasappa M. Pappa, secretary, Shivaraj V. Inginshetty, Industry and MSMEs Sub-Committee chairman Abhijeet R. Padashetty, SIRC's Kalaburagi Branch Chairman Anand B. Pallod, secretary Sumit R. Bharadia and project director Prateek Darak, in a joint media note released here on Wednesday, said that the event will be inaugurated by Minister for Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises Sharanabasappa Darshnapur in the presence of Deputy Commissioner B. Fouzia Tarannum. 'With the theme, 'Driving Growth, Fostering Innovation, Building a Stronger Future', the mahotsav aims to empowering micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing them access to expert guidance, government schemes and financial and technological support,' the note said. According to information shared by KKCCI office-bearers, key institutions will address vital aspects of MSMEs development during the event, including subsidies and incentives available to MSMEs, financial schemes and solutions, MSMEs DI schemes and avenues for financial assistance. Additional sessions will focus on MSMEs compliance, tax planning and subsidy optimisation. The Mahotsav will also offer a variety of support services for entrepreneurs. These include free MSMEs registration, walk-in support and query resolution, consultancy on business growth and helpdesks to address grievances and provide financial access. Participants will also receive guidance on technology initiatives, opportunities for innovation and updates on relevant government schemes and benefits. The KKCCI has extended an open invitation to all MSMEs entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the region to actively participate and take advantage of this comprehensive support initiative.

People urged to take part in Yoga Day celebrations in Kalaburagi
The Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) will, in association with the district administration, the Arujiva Holistic Healing Centre run by Maanaveeya Kalyana Trust and the AYUSH Department, organise a mass yoga session at Chandrashekar Patil Stadium in Kalaburagi on Saturday to mark the International Yoga Day. KKCCI president Sharanabasappa Pappa, addressing a press conference here on Thursday, appealed to the people of Kalaburagi to participate in large numbers in the Yoga Day celebrations. Mr. Pappa said that the event aims to promote physical, mental and spiritual well-being through Yoga practice. The event will feature yoga sessions, health and wellness tips from yoga instructors.
