KLWC, KLIH Ink Landmark Healthcare Pact With China's Boao Lecheng

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- KL Wellness City (KLWC) and KL International Hospital (KLIH) have signed a strategic healthcare cooperation agreement with China's Boao LeCheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, located in the Hainan Free Trade Port, marking a significant step towards transforming the regional medical tourism and healthcare innovation landscape. KL Wellness City Sdn Bhd, in a statement today, said the agreement marks the first-ever partnership between Boao LeCheng and a Malaysian hospital, establishing a significant bridge between two leading medical tourism and wellness destinations in Asia. KLWC managing director Datuk Dr Colin Lee said the partnership underscores the shared commitment of both parties to improving health outcomes, driving medical innovation, and benefiting patients in the two countries. 'This signing ceremony marks an important milestone in cross-border medical collaboration and represents a crucial step forward in realising a healthier and more closely connected Asia. We are honoured to represent Malaysia in this landmark collaboration, which paves the way for a dynamic healthcare corridor. 'I hope this agreement will serve as a starting point for establishing a long-term cooperation mechanism and jointly writing a new chapter in international healthcare collaboration,' he said. The agreement, which is expected to reshape the regional medical tourism and healthcare innovation landscape, was signed recently by Dr Lee and KLIH executive director Datuk Dr Jacob Thomas, together with deputy director of the LeCheng Administration, Yi Tuoxin. KLWC executive director Datuk Seri Dr Vincent Tiew described the collaboration as a significant milestone encompassing joint initiatives in medical tourism, clinical research, cutting-edge technology exchange, and specialist training, propelling KLWC's mission to position Malaysia as a regional hub for integrative healthcare and wellness. 'Establishing and formalising this collaboration with Boao LeCheng marks an important step in our mission to bring global healthcare innovation to Malaysia. 'This partnership also commemorates 50 years of China–Malaysia diplomatic relations and friendship. We are honoured to serve as the gateway for Boao LeCheng into Malaysia and the greater Southeast Asian region,' he said.

These include health screening vouchers and travel perks through AirAsia MOVE and AirAsia Rewards—such as SNAP flight and hotel packages, AirAsia Ride, duty-free shopping, and redeemable AirAsia points. 'Initiatives like Wellness 360 and the 2H campaign reflect the kind of progressive, people-first programmes we need more of—ones that empower communities to take charge of their health, while also supporting local economic vibrancy,' said Dr Zaliha. 'As we position Kuala Lumpur as a thriving, inclusive city, efforts like this help bridge wellness, tourism and urban living in meaningful ways.' Health screening vouchers can be redeemed at the upcoming International Hospital @ KL Wellness City, scheduled to open in the second half of 2026. The flagship tertiary hospital will provide international-standard diagnostics, screenings, and specialist services. Screening packages under the campaign include checks across multiple health dimensions, such as vital signs, respiratory and cardiac tests, abdominal ultrasound, metabolic health profiles, infectious disease screenings, nutritional guidance, and medical consultations tailored by age group. Datuk Seri Dr. Vincent Tiew, KLWC's Executive Director of Branding, Sales & Marketing, emphasised the broader vision: 'This is more than a development — it is our commitment to create a blueprint for healthier living in Malaysia and the region. 'With Wellness 360 and the 2H campaign, we are taking real, impactful steps to bring wellness to the forefront of everyday life. We believe true wellness should be accessible, engaging and inspiring.' AirAsia MOVE and AirAsia Rewards serve as official travel partners, enhancing campaign convenience by offering seamless access to travel bookings, wellness deals, and shopping via their integrated app. The Wellness 360 Series is a 12-session public health programme, combining doctor-led wellness talks with yoga sessions. Running monthly from June to December 2025 at the KL Wellness City Gallery, each session explores a distinct wellness theme, such as heart health, hormonal balance, neurological calm, and mental resilience—paired with tailored yoga practices like Heart-Opening Flow, Moon Flow, Yoga Nidra, and Meditation. Health and beauty brand Kinohimitsu joins as a strategic partner in the Wellness 360 series. Represented by Liew Pei Yee, General Manager, the brand will support all sessions with sponsored products, expert talks, health tips, and interactive booths. Dr Tiew added, 'As the first healthcare and wellness city in Southeast Asia, we believe in walking the talk when it comes to well-being. Wellness 360 isn't just a campaign — it reflects how we live and build our community. ' From our staff to our residents and partners, we're creating an ecosystem where health is a way of life, not an afterthought. People say health is wealth and with our 2H campaign, we're combining both by rewarding your wellness journey with a holiday. We'll even fly you there for free.'

The session featured a powerful sharing by Dato' Sri Dr. Vincent Tiew, Executive Director of KL Wellness City, who emphasised the importance of aligning physical health, mental clarity and emotional wellbeing to unlock peak performance in the workplace. Also present was Deputy President of PUMM, Eugene Ng Eng Aik, who reiterated the significsance of embedding wellness into the core of business leadership. The event also highlighted team building efforts and strong inter-departmental collaboration at KLWC, positioning the organisation as a model for how wellness can be embedded into corporate culture. The event's open dialogue was moderated by Founder & CEO of Engage Life, Paresh a/l Subramaniyam, who facilitated an engaging and insightful discussion between Dato' Sri Dr Vincent Tiew and Cris Angel, which delved into actionable strategies for balancing personal wellness with entrepreneurial drive, especially in today's fast-evolving market. The candid exchange resonated strongly with the audience, sparking deeper discussions on how inner alignment directly impacts business outcomes. Cris Angel, Founder of Aura Palace, believes that aligning the mind, body and soul is key to long-term business success. She champions a people-first approach, where kindness in business creates a ripple of positive impact in society. Adding an experiential element to the session was Annie Wong, Founder of New York Yoga Wellness, who led a practical and energising segment on office-friendly yoga. Annie shared breathing techniques, stress-reducing relaxation methods and demonstrated simple stretches that can be done while seated in an office chair. Her session emphasised the accessibility of wellness practices in the workplace and encouraged participants to adopt mindful movement as part of their daily routine for better focus, posture, and mental clarity. This event is part of a larger national initiative by PUMM, which has been championing entrepreneurial growth for over three decades. As part of its mission to empower SMEs, PUMM will continue to organise events across Klang Valley, Johor Bahru, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and other key states, covering a range of topics relevant to startups, innovators, and growth-stage entrepreneurs. The initiative was led by Yens Chong Yen Kai, Organising Chairperson and Initiator of the FAST movement, with a vision to future-proof Malaysia's business community. While ESG can mean many things, real impact starts with the 'S' — Social. It connects Environment and Governance, because people are the real drivers of change. Even in an AI-powered world, it's human trust, connection and innovation that give progress true meaning. Without genuine human engagement, ESG remains just a concept. 'We believe wellness is no longer a luxury – it's a necessity for sustained productivity and business excellence,' said Dato' Sri Dr. Vincent during the closing remarks. 'KL Wellness City is proud to lead by example, integrating wellness into everything we do – for our team, our community, and the entrepreneurs we support.'
