65 per cent of petitions at ‘Ungaludan Stalin' camps in Chennai are for KMUT
CHENNAI: Over 65% of petitions received at the 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps held in the city on Thursday were for inclusion in the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) scheme, according to the Greater Chennai Corporation. According to a report, 12,891 petitions were received at the camps, which included inclusion in KMUT scheme (8,614), patta transfers (1,002), pensions (657), and address change in ration cards (600), among others. A visit to these camps showed that while thousands were visiting the camps, poor crowd management resulted in many of them waiting there for a large part of their day. On Thursday, Ungaludan Stalin camps were held in six zones - Madhavaram, Royapuram, Ambattur, Kodambakkam, Perungudi, and Sholinganallur. When TNIE visited the Sholinganallur camp, a large crowd was seen at the registration desk after which people were directed to the counters of the respective departments, where they had to submit their application with proofs. Many people stated that the process was taking hours. At noon, Ambika Devi, who arrived to get a correction done on her Aadhaar, said, 'After this, I have to also apply for KMUT and for patta. My husband is in the hospital and I have to rush there after this.'

Kalaignar scheme, patta issues dominate first-day in suburban venues
Madurai: The Tamil Nadu government's 'Ungaludan Stalin' grievance redressal drive, launched across the state on Tuesday, received over 6,000 petitions in Madurai district across five camps. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Most grievances centred on the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) scheme and patta-related issues. Of the total petitions, over 3,500 pertained to the Kalaignar women's entitlement scheme, mainly from women whose applications were either rejected or pending. Another 1,000-plus petitions focused on patta transfers, name corrections, and land ownership disputes. Officials said these two categories accounted for nearly three-fourths of the petitions received. Unlike in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Trichy—where camps were held within city limits—Madurai's camps were located entirely in suburban areas, notably within the constituency of commercial taxes and registration minister P Moorthy. Camps were conducted in Chettikulam (Madurai West), Othakadai, two venues under Melur Panchayat Union, and Paravai Municipality. Minister Moorthy inaugurated the first camp at Chettikulam and inspected grievance counters set up by various departments at all five venues. DMK cadres assisted the public at the camps, helping residents fill out applications and directing them to relevant counters. "Their involvement was particularly helpful for rural women, senior citizens, and first-time applicants," said M Kannan, a resident of Chettikulam. "They also raised awareness about the camps by distributing pamphlets earlier this week." "I applied for the Kalaignar scheme three times, but my application was rejected each time without explanation," said A Selvi of Oomachikulam village. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Earlier, I had to visit the collectorate repeatedly. For the first time, officials have come to our village to receive petitions directly. They assured me my case would be reviewed." Minister Moorthy said the initiative aimed to take governance to people's doorsteps. "By holding these camps in rural and suburban areas, the government ensures no eligible beneficiary is left behind," he said. Madurai collector K J Praveen Kumar said 347 such camps are scheduled across the district from July to November. On the first day, officials resolved nearly 10 grievances on the spot and distributed welfare benefits worth ₹72.34 lakh. The camps also ensured basic facilities like drinking water, toilets, and disabled-friendly infrastructure for public convenience. MSID:: 122516509 413 |
