Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. At a GT World Challenge race, Lamborghini driver Georgi Donczew was involved in a terrifying accident that developed into a fiery wreck. Donczew was fighting side by side with a BMW car when his car made contact, went into a spin, hit the side of the fence, and caught fire as it lost control. Fortunately, driver Georgi Donczew is out of the car immediately. 📺 | #GTMisano — GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS (@GTWorldChEu) July 20, 2025 As the car rode the barriers, it simultaneously caught on fire and became a fireball that shot across the track. The Lamborghini came to a standstill while still engulfed in flames, but Donczew managed to run out of the car and into safety while a red flag was called on the race. "I was glad, as soon as I went down, I saw Georgi in the garage, and he was uninjured," Leung said. "We just kind of exchanged a few words about how scary that moment was. I just think it's one of those things. "I didn't expect him to come from a blind spot and come across the front of me. It's such a high-speed corner. That does stuff to the aero in these cars. It does quite a lot. "I did lift, I lifted as much as I could without losing the car myself, and he obviously had a bigger lift. "It looks like I'm trying to go for a move there, but really, I'm trying to give him the space after he came across the front. There wasn't really anything else I could have done. "The most important thing is that he's okay. If you look at the lap before, I gave him plenty of space in the high-speed section. "Unfortunately, for me, that was the situation that resulted in the tiniest of touches between us which had the biggest consequence. Again, I'm glad he's okay." The on-track battle that led up to the collision was purely a racing incident, but it is a reminder of the constant threat drivers face, even the most skilled. Luckily, Donczew walked away from the scene, but when the car was sitting on fire and he didn't immiedately come out, concern grew for his safety. His health being intact is also a testament to the modern safety precautions, including the fire-proof race suits, that protected him amid the flames.

Operation Sindoor & its long pause: Figuring out the fallout
India is in a state of frozen conflict with an officially declared pause on Operation Sindoor . This is possibly aimed at keeping the enemy in a state of confusion or suspense. The obvious corollaries are: A) How long can this state be maintained? B) Does it really have constraining influence on our adversaries? How does it impact us internally? It is fairly apparent that both sides had restricted objectives and limited stamina, specially for non-contact, kinetic warfare, in terms of missiles and drones. A defined, short pause can help to reset, introspect, re-arm and rebuild arsenals. The law of diminishing marginal returns also applies to this extended pause. Defining New Normal Pakistan is already using ISPR/lobbyists to drum up the narrative of India being irresponsible, war-mongering hegemon, insisting on bilateralism, ruling out external influences. On the contrary, as a responsible nation, India has acted in a proportionate, non-escalatory manner, with calibrated targeting. Operation Sindoor, as a short, surgical operation was indeed commendable, and it delivered a potent, effective message. Following up on Balakot, it curated an additional space below the nuclear threshold and debunked Pakistan's narrative of irrational escalation to nuclear domain. The new doctrine defines altered realities: guaranteed retribution after terrorist misadventure; debunking of nuclear blackmail; and that terror sponsors will have to bear the consequences. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Pakistan attempted an economic façade at Pahalgam, to derail tourism and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. We need to bounce back and not get bogged down, since Pakistan has really nothing to lose. In any case, Pakistan is running spectacle of visits, lunches and even hosting tutorials on its version of air combat for foreign delegations. Learning from the pastIt will be appropriate to constitute a time-bound, fast-track Kargil Review Committee (KRC) type of a task force. It was indeed commendable that PM Atal Behari Vajpayee ordered KRC within a week after the culmination of Operation Vijay in Kargil. Even more noteworthy was the constitution of a group of ministers (GoM) under the then deputy PM, L K Advani. We implemented some reforms, but we lost traction. Few recommendations still need to be taken to a logical conclusion. It is important to take a call on the pending issues of theatre commands, raising cyber command, and upgrading aero-space and special forces agencies, from two-star to three-star led. It is time to put the NDU debate to rest by officially accepting RRU, which has acquired de facto status. However, in keeping with global norms, there is a requirement to reinforce faculties and apex management, with more services representation. Another important issue is empowering CAPFs with integral cadres. ITBP and BSF deployed in operational grid should be placed under theatre and regional commanders to implement 'One Border, One Force' to build accountability and specialisation. It is relevant to recount the unpleasant experience of a prolonged mobilisation during Operation Parakram, after the terrorist attack on Parliament on Dec 13, 1991, which stretched for more than ten months. In keeping with bureaucratic ambiguity, mobilisation was managed without invoking the war book. Much after demobilisation, Indian Army was battling auditors who refused to clear bills for civil transport hired to keep ammunition on wheels in a ready-to-move state. Recently, Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari, who has multiple tenures in the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence and is a constitutional lawyer, raised some seemingly valid questions on the declaration of national emergency and war. It will be prudent to address them and lay clearcut norms. The most discouraging thing is when even after stellar performance, the forces are literally abandoned to fend for themselves, with a maze of vague and rigid regulations. This is also relevant for ongoing emergency procurement where guard-rails need to be reinforced, and accountability shared. Viksit dialogue Mercifully, the present template is different with no large-scale mobilisation or move of formations. To maintain surprise, no general 'recall from leave' orders were promulgated. The surprise was only in timing, as the nation was rooting for instant retribution. As they say that revenge is best served cold, could we have kept Pakistan on tenterhooks for a longer duration, imposing penalties and costs, in a guessing and scrambling game? Considering the dangerous hype created by war-mongering TV channels, there is a need to develop the culture of 'Viksit Samvad' (informed dialogue) for 'Viksit Bharat'. It is time to dispel the misinformation on our aircraft losses. In any case, some losses are an acceptable part of occupational hazard. At present, the Pakistan narrative seems to have found better traction. The confusion is becoming more baffling with floating of new theories of spoofing, with towed decoys. Way forward It would be realistic to infer that while deterrence against Pakistan are in place, there may be attempts to test the redlines coupled with deniability. The next round may be entirely different, especially with Chinese having got considerable amount of data, on our vectors. Hence, we need to have serious discussions on designing force level and platform-mix. It is time we develop an optimum combination of manned-unmanned platforms. The guiding rule is agile platforms with minimal electronic signatures. We should build a potent, but smaller manned fighter fleet, integrated with drones, loitering munitions, missiles and layered air defence. Discussions on the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) have to be progressed in the light of water stress, climate change, need for clean hydro-energy, de-silting of dams for safety and livelihood issues like minimum draft in Jhelum for navigation. The treaty requires a review, taking into account altered realities, but only when the other party mends its ways. Meanwhile, work on dams and reservoirs must be expedited. It is time Pakistan learns to live with the new water regime in the Indus basin. (The author is former GOC-in-C, Western Command, Indian Army)

Kedah secures RM4.2 billion investments in first quarter, says Sanusi
ALOR STAR: Kedah recorded RM4.2 billion in investments in the first quarter of this year, creating more than 1,400 job opportunities, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor. He said the numbers underscored the state's steady march towards realising its Greater Kedah vision, and showed it was firmly on course to harnessing its full potential and resources for sustainable growth. "Investor confidence, both domestic and foreign, has kept Kedah among Malaysia's top investment destinations. "For the manufacturing sector alone, Kedah booked RM3.9 billion in investments, ranking it third highest in the country," he said in his speech during an investiture at Istana Anak Bukit held in conjunction with sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah's 83rd birthday celebration. Sanusi expressed confidence that high-value manufacturing would weather global political and economic headwinds, spurred by the expansion of Kulim Hi-Tech Park Phases 4A and 5, the Kulim Industrial Corridor (KIC), as well as emerging industrial clusters, such as Kedah Rubber City (KRC) and the Kedah Science Technology Park (KSTP). "The willingness of investors to choose Kedah is a manifestation of the stability, transparency and effectiveness of our policies. We are thankful for this trust," he said. He said the establishment of The Greater Kedah Secretariat, in strategic collaboration with the State Economic Planning Division, also ensured that all strategic plans and initiatives were systematically monitored and aligned with clear key performance indicators. Sanusi also highlighted the state's accelerating border corridor development, citing the launch of a new logistics hub at the Delapan Special Border Economic Zone (Delapan SBEZ) in Bukit Kayu Hitam. "This facility alone is expected to divert an additional 240,000 TEUs of container traffic from southern Thailand, contributing up to RM843 million a year to Kedah's gross domestic product," he said. To further boost cross-border trade, he said, a new road connecting the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS to Thailand's Sadao ICQS is expected to be completed by September. "This strategic link is projected to help raise Malaysia–Thailand two-way trade from RM117 billion in 2023 to RM141 billion by 2027, with Kedah benefiting from the spillover. "This translates to more job opportunities, increased revenue for the state and sustained fiscal health as demonstrated by our revenue collection in 2024 which surpassed projections," he added.

NCER records RM20.38 billion in realised investments in Kedah last year
ALOR STAR: The Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) recorded RM20.38 billion in realised investments in Kedah in 2024, a significant increase from RM11.6 billion the previous year. Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) chief executive, Datuk Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan, attributed this achievement to close collaboration between the Kedah state government and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida). He said the positive investment trend had continued into 2025, with RM9.11 billion in realised investments recorded as of May 31, creating nearly 2,000 job opportunities. "This strong performance reflects the high level of confidence investors and industry players have in the future potential of Kedah and the northern region as a whole. "NCIA will continue to play a vital role, strengthening collaboration with the Kedah state government and relevant agencies to ensure investment realisation in the state meets the expectations of investors," he said in a statement issued after attending the Kedah NCER Steering Committee meeting, chaired by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor. Meanwhile, Sanusi said that the NCIA had secured five investors for Phase 1 of the Kedah Rubber City (KRC) project, located in the Padang Terap district. He added that Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) had completed the electricity infrastructure for KRC. "The state government will apply for funding from the Economy Ministry to upgrade the road connecting Pokok Sena to Padang Terap," he told reporters following the meeting. Sanusi also announced that the NCIA has attracted a potential investor for the Kedah Science and Technology Park in Bukit Kayu Hitam. In addition, the NCIA has completed the Integrated Community and Economic Centre (iCON) project in Yan, while the Baling iCON facility has reached 90 per cent completion. iCON is an extension of NCER's empowerNCER entrepreneurship development programme, aimed at improving community livelihoods and economic participation. Sanusi expressed his gratitude to the federal government for facilitating the smooth implementation of NCIA-led projects across the state.
