Squatter fatally shoots roommate over $250 rent feud: ‘Going to kill them all'

A squatter allegedly shot and killed his roommate after he was asked to pay just $250 in rent — shouting 'I'm going to kill them all,' as he marched towards the house, according to law enforcement officials. Angel Gomez Montanez, 21, paid no rent at a home outside of Houston, Texas, for over three months when his roommate Christopher Rodriguez Lara, 18, asked the delinquent to pony-up the paltry sum, KTRK reported. Angel Gomez Montanez, 21, allegedly shot and killed his roommate for asking for his portion of the rent — a paltry $250. Law and Crime The two got into an argument and then Montanez left the shared home with his belongings — only to return on June 12, saying he had the $250 for rent. Montanez insisted on handing the dough directly to the 18-year-old — and when Lara stepped outside, Montanez allegedly shot him on the spot and fled. A 9-year-old witness armed with a rock chased Montanez away, but hid when the crazed alleged gunman started walking back towards the home, the Charlotte Observer reported. 'I'm going to kill all of them,' Montanez said, the 9-year-old told investigators, according to that report. Montanez allegedly fired one more shot that investigators believe was aimed at Lara's brother. A bullet hole in the siding of the Houston-area home. ABC 7 'The only thing we told him is we needed the money for rent,' Zulekya Ortiz, who said Montanez had been living in her family home for the three months span, told the outlet. 'He was the happiness in this home,' Ortiz said of Lara, her brother-in-law. 'My children loved him.' Montanez was arrested on June 15 and is being charged with murder, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Houston Marine veteran says neighbor shouted racial slurs, tried to run him over

A 64-year-old Houston man is facing second-degree felony charges after allegedly attempting to run over his neighbor while shouting racial slurs, according to Houston police. Jesse Ruffer, 64, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the incident on Winsome Lane in West Houston, police said. The alleged confrontation occurred Monday afternoon after Blaine McShaw, a Marine veteran, said he briefly stepped off the sidewalk to avoid a puddle, according to Houston ABC station KTRK-TV. "I walked out in the street just enough around a parked car," McShaw told KTRK. "This gentleman like swerved really close to me." According to McShaw, Ruffer then allegedly threatened him with racial slurs, stating, "If you want to walk in the street ... I'll run you down." McShaw said he remained calm during the incident and contacted law enforcement instead of engaging with the suspect. "I was just more taken aback by the fact that he actually said that after trying to literally run me over in a car," McShaw said. During a bail hearing, prosecutor Christine Huang requested a bond of $51,000, citing the use of a vehicle as a deadly weapon and the defendant's previous arrest warrant from 2022 for a terroristic threat charge. "This is indicative of his violent propensity," Huang told the court. Ruffer's public defender argued for a lower $15,000 bond, noting that her client was a lifetime Houston resident who had lived at his current address for 38 years. She emphasized that this was Ruffer's first arrest and that he had no criminal history. The judge set the bond at $20,000 and imposed several conditions, including no contact with McShaw and that he remain within the Houston area. The judge also ordered Ruffer to stay at least 200 feet away from McShaw's home and work addresses. In the 2022 case, Ruffer is accused of calling his Arab neighbor a terrorist and threatening to kill both the neighbor and the man's dog, according to KTRK. Court records show he received a general order bond in that case. If convicted of the current charge, Ruffer could face up to 20 years in prison, according to Houston police.

Houston Anchor Says No to Viewer Who Tells Her to Stop Saying Goodbye in Spanish

ABC 13 (KTRK) evening anchor Mayra Moreno is clapping back over criticism she speaks Spanish during her newscasts. The veteran journalist who joined the Houston ABC owned station in 2015, recently responded on to a viewer who didn't like her nightly sign-off of 'Buenas Noches.' In an email, the viewer wrote: 'I would like to make a suggestion. When you present the news in English you seem to feel we need to know your ethnicity by signing off 'Buenas Noches'. I'm sure you know we have Spanish stations if you need to drop something in Spanish. If you speak in English throughout the show, why do you sign-off in Spanish? With all that's going on with the Latinos, your sign-off sounds like you're teasing the Hispanics. There's no need for this kind of activity to go on.' CHRON 'I say it with pride at the end of my newscast. It's small, but it's meaningful to me. A simple way to share a piece of myself with the people I serve every night,' she responded on Instagram. 'I'm proud of who I am. Proud to be a reflection of my parents who are hardworking, bilingual, and full of corazón.' Moreno said that growing up she faced lots of racism and was made fun of because she had an accent, adding it took me a long time for her not to feel ashamed of her roots. 'So no, I'm not going to stop saying it,' wrote. 'And I'm definitely not going to apologize for being bilingual, bicultural, and unapologetically me. Buenas Noches, Houston.' The Houston Chronicle said that in late 2024, she received widespread support from viewers and fellow journalists alike after defending her accurate pronunciation of Spanish names during newscasts. According to her station bio, Moreno is a proud alum of the University of Houston, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Journalism and Spanish.

Scottish musician's wife assaulted by Karen in shocking outburst in Texas park

The wife of a Scottish musician was allegedly assaulted in a Texas park after a woman became enraged by the sound of bagpipes. Scott Gibb was playing in a secluded area at Terry Hershey Park in Houston on May 26, when he was confronted and verbally threatened by Eunice Isgur, 76. Isgur began recording Gibb and yelling at him for playing his instrument, Harris County Precinct 5 constable Terry Allbritton said. Gibb told KTRK: 'She said I had no right to play here in this public park.' 'She said, "I'm gonna call my husband. He's a federal judge and he's gonna make you stop,"' Gibb told the outlet, referring to Isgur's husband U.S. district bankruptcy judge Marvin Isgur of the Southern District of Texas. As the situation escalated, Gibb's wife witnessed the argument unfold and decided to record the pair herself. But Isgur reportedly became further angered that she was being recorded, which is when she allegedly lashed out and hit Gibb's wife's arm while trying to swipe at her phone. 'She was very aggressive, yelling and screaming,' Gibb told the outlet. 'She basically swiped at my wife's face.' Isgur, according to authorities, suffered a black eye after she tripped in an attempt to grab the victim's backpack. She was arrested for assault-bodily injury and posted a $100 bond, according to online records. Gibb said that Isgur's husband arrived on the scene but hasn't been accused of any wrongdoing. He added that Isgur had previously confronted him about the bagpipes noise, but this was the first violent encounter. 'You can't have people so disrespectful and attacking for no reason at all,' Gibb told the outlet.
