Fake supply deal: Trader scammed of over RM175,000
KUALA TERENGGANU: A trader lost over RM175,000 after falling victim to a scam involving a fictitious goods order. Kuala Terengganu police chief Supt Azli Mohd Noor said that on June 3, the 50-year-old victim was contacted by his foster brother, informing him he had been offered a project to supply sports equipment to Kolej Universiti Bestari (KUB) in Setiu by a ministry's office in Putrajaya. Due to financial constraints, the foster brother declined the offer and instead passed it on to the victim. 'The victim agreed to take up the project to deliver the goods to KUB on June 8. 'Subsequently, he received a call from a woman claiming to be from the same office, who requested additional items such as dates, traditional daggers and decorative plates. She also provided contact details of several so-called suppliers,' he said in a statement today. Azli said the victim contacted the alleged suppliers and subsequently made payments in stages totalling RM175,452.80 to several bank accounts provided. However, the victim later discovered that the woman was not affiliated with the ministry and that the said order did not exist. 'The victim lodged a police report at 12.32 pm yesterday. The payments were made using his savings and funds from a business partner,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

Through this vision, the chamber wants to leverage innovation to improve Knoxville's economy and increase opportunities for all Knoxvillians. The vision is focused on innovation and preparation for the future. It includes six priorities and six initiatives. KUB weatherizes 3,000 homes to help low-income households save money The priorities are to align with the 2030 Protocol and achieve the following by 2030: Raise average annual pay 30% Lower the poverty rate 25% Increase the population of 25 – 54-year-olds 7% Raise Knoxville's ranking in the Milken Institute's Best-Performing Cities from 69th to the top 10 Raise the city's innovation ranking in the Innovation Cities Index by 20 places To meet these goals, the Knoxville chamber will seek to develop and implement an innovation-growth strategy, an innovation business expansion program, a digital education/training strategy and a Chattanooga-Knoxville-Tri-Cities partnership. They also seek to enhance efforts to attract and retain the 25- to 54-year-old demographic and update the Path to Prosperity strategies. Food City presents $51K check for KUB's Project Help
SEYMOUR, Tenn. (WATE) — Food City's annual campaign raised more than $51,700 for Project Help which seeks to provide heating assistance to locals in need, Food City announced. During the campaign which ran from January 1 to February 4 in Knoxville locations, shoppers were asked to make contributions at the check-out. Food City presented the check to Project Help on Wednesday at their Seymour location which raised the most money. Crews responding to 30-40 acre wildfire in Sevier County 'Food City has sponsored Project Help for almost 20 years,' said Betsi James, Food City Special Events Manager. 'Project Help helps people heat their homes in the winter when they can't afford to pay their bills. They go through a vetting process… People can apply for assistance and then, in turn, their bill is taken care of for the month.' This year's campaign was one of their best ever, according to KUB CEO Gabriel Bolas. He explained that KUB covers the overhead costs, so every dollar raised for Project Help goes to people in need. Fiber internet available to over 80,000 KUB customers as network buildout reaches halfway point
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Utilities Board has reached a major milestone in its long-term project to build a fiber internet network. With the project now at the halfway point, high-speed internet is now available to nearly 84,000 KUB customers. KUB Fiber is now available to all KUB customers in Union and Grainger counties, with upcoming construction planned for Sevier and Jefferson counties. In 2025, KUB Fiber will be available to customers in Seymour, Strawberry Plains, Holston Hills, additional portions of North Knox County, and other areas. Knoxville companies breathing new life into 100-year-old laundry service building Work on the third and final phase of the fiber network construction will begin in 2026, giving all KUB electric customers access to high-speed internet while improving electric reliability. Efforts to build out the fiber network began in late 2021 before rolling out to some customers in 2022. In 2024, KUB launched its ConnectED program to provide free KUB Fiber services to income-eligible K-12 student households in Knox County through funding from the City of Knoxville and Knox County.
