Tragedy strikes on M25 as run-away truck and bus collide, leaving one dead and dozens injured
A suspected run-away truck and bus collided on the M25 Highway in Kwa-Mashu, Durban leaving one dead and many injured Image: ALS Paramedics ONE man was confirmed dead and 35 passengers sustained a range of injuries after a bus and truck collided on he M25 Kwa Mashu Highway, Durban at around 7am on Thursday. Reports that have emerged at this stage suggest that the truck, headed towards Durban, lost control and veered across the central median, leading to the impact that bore devastation. Among the first responders at the scene of the crash were ALS Paramedics, KZN VIP and a host of paramedics and rescue services amid the chaos. According to ALS's representatives on the scene, thirty-five people had sustained various degrees of injuries, necessitating urgent medical attention, with paramedics working to stabilise the affected and some were transferred to various hospitals across Durban for further medical treatment. Next Stay Close ✕ The truck driver, a man believed to be in his fifties, was found trapped and with severe injuries, and in spite of the efforts of emergency responders, he was declared deceased on the scene. Inadvertently, crash had severely hampered the flow of traffic in the area, with resulted in a long queues of vehicles backed up for a few kilometres, while authorities worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this stage, little is known regarding the events leading up to the crash, but South African Police Service (SAPS) officials were on site and expected to launch an investigation to ascertain further details. Man shot dead in Greenwood Park, Durban in suspected hit outside driveway
Tragic shooting in Durban: Man killed in possible hijacking attempt. A man was killed in a hail of bullets in the Greenwood Park area of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday morning. According to KZN VIP, the victim was exiting a driveway on Avoca Road when a Toyota Etios pulled up alongside his vehicle. KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said an armed suspect alighted from the Etios and opened fire on the victim before fleeing in an unknown direction. Naidoo said medics from KZNVIP and another private ambulance service worked to stabilise the critically injured man.

Toddler dies after sand bank collapse in Durban North
A SAND bank collapse in the Glenhills area of Durban North claimed the life of one child and left another critically injured on Saturday afternoon (May 24). Also read: Cash heist closes highway north of Durban It is believed that the child who died was three years of age. Emergency services, including KZN VIP Protection Services and other first responders, rushed to the scene after receiving reports of two children trapped beneath a collapsed sand bank. According to a spokesperson for KZN VIP Protection Services, both minors were buried under the debris when the sand bank gave way. 'Our emergency medical teams arrived quickly and began intensive rescue efforts alongside other responding agencies,' said the spokesperson. 'One child was successfully rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Sadly, despite hours of relentless work, the second child was found with no signs of life and was declared deceased at the scene.' The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. KZN VIP thanked all responders and community members who assisted during the operation. 'This is a deeply heartbreaking incident,' the spokesperson added. 'Our thoughts are with the families of the children and with our teams who worked under extremely traumatic circumstances.' Further updates are expected as investigations continue. Murder in Newlands West: man shot dead during attempted hijacking attempt
A 28-year-old man was shot and killed in an alleged attempted hijacking outside a shop in Newlands West on Tuesday night. The man, who had since been identified as Austin Mark Khan, was shot several times and died at the scene. Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZNVIP Protection Services, said their reaction units were dispatched to the scene after receiving several reports of gunfire at about 6pm. 'Upon arrival, it was discovered that four armed male suspects in a white Toyota Etios sedan had attempted to hijack a vehicle near a local shop. It is believed that during the course of the attempted hijacking, and while fleeing the scene, the suspects fired multiple shots at the victim. 'Despite the response of KZNVIP paramedics, the victim was found critically injured and unresponsive. Sadly, he showed no signs of life upon medical assessment and was declared deceased at the scene. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim's family during this incredibly difficult time,' he said. Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a provincial police spokesperson, said Newlands East police are investigating cases of carjacking and murder. 'It has been reported that the victim was in his vehicle when he was ambushed by the suspects who demanded his vehicle before fatally wounding him.'
