Three killed in crashes in Durban North and uMhlanga

Three killed in crashes in Durban North and uMhlanga THEREE people have died in two crashes in uMhlanga and Durban North just hours apart. In the early hours of Saturday morning (June 28), a man was declared deceased after a crash on Kenneth Kaunda Road (Northway). The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was declared deceased by paramedics. 'On arrival, our responders were met by other private security personnel and first responders already on scene,' explained KZN VIP Paramedics spokesperson Gareth Naidoo. Also read: Smolder in Sea Cow Lake expels toxic fumes 'The driver was severely entrapped in the wreckage and displayed no signs of life. The Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and stood by pending the arrival of Metro Police to commence further recovery efforts. The individual was declared deceased on the scene.' In a separate incident, in uMhlanga, two people were killed in an accident on the corner of Twilight Drive and Centenary Boulevard. IPSS Medical Rescue responded to the incident which saw two people, one from each vehicle, allegedly ejected in the crash. Paramedics also treated two other patients, one of whom was in a critical condition. The circumstances leading to both crashes are unknown at this stage. A CELEBRATORY baby shower for a mother-to-be took an unexpected turn on Friday evening in uMhlanga after she went into labour. Paramedics from KZN VIP Medical responded to the incident at a restaurant at a popular mall on Lagoon Drive to find that the woman's family as well as staff and bystanders had helped deliver the baby girl weighing 3kg. The delivery process was completed by paramedics – when they arrived on scene the baby was still attached by the umbilical chord. Also read: Glen Hills baby home appeals for donations 'Reports indicated that a woman had gone into labour during a baby shower celebration hosted by her family. Our medics found that the baby had already been delivered. Maternity care protocols were initiated to ensure the safety and well-being of both mother and child,' explained KZN VIP Paramedics spokesperson Gareth Naidoo. 'We are pleased to report that a healthy baby girl was born, and both mother and baby were stable. They were transported to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation and care,' he said. Naidoo commended the paramedics for their swift response to the incident. It is believed the mother was from Mtunzini and was celebrating with family in uMhlanga.
