Blue taxis will no longer be on Dubai roads - here's why
'A blue roof Toyota Camry Hybrid' will no longer be on the way to collect you in the near future. Dubai's iconic blue taxis are gradually being phased off the city's roads to make way for purple taxi cabs. The move is the result of a rebrand of Cars Taxi, the largest private taxi company in the UAE, which has now changed its name to Kabi. Cars Taxi, now known as Kabi, cabs have been on Dubai roads since 2000 and currently make more than 110,000 trips per day in the UAE. Since the late 2000s, taxi vehicles in Dubai have all shared the same base sand colour, with the colour of the roof indicating which company each cab belongs to. You may like: Here's what the colour of your Dubai taxi roof *actually* means While there is currently no timescale in place for the gradual phasing out of the blue taxis, Kabi has confirmed that they will be replaced by purple-roofed vehicles. A statement said: 'The blue-roofed taxis are being replaced by our new purple-roofed Kabi cars – fully rebranded and redesigned from the inside out. 'Think leather seats, a fresh interior, and a more premium feel all around. We're proud to be the only ones elevating the customer experience this way, to make every ride more comfortable, connected, and memorable.' Purple-roofed taxis will gradually replace blue taxis in Dubai (Credit: ITP Media) Currently, Kabi has 4,350 purple-roofed taxis across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, with more likely on the way in the near future. So, why the change to purple? Kabi bosses explain that the rebrand and the new colour are a better reflection of what the company has grown into, with a spokesperson saying, 'We're moving from simply getting people places to building something bigger — empowering livelihoods, enriching city life, and strengthening community ties.' While people who regularly book rides with Careem may have seen the vehicles described as 'violet', Kabi has clarified that their cabs are purple. A statement explained that purple stands for 'innovation, human connection and recognition'. Purple is also the brand colour of Al Ghurair, the owner of Kabi, and the rebrand allows for brand consistency. A spokesperson said: 'We don't call it violet, but purple. Purple stands for innovation, human connection, and recognition – all things that matter to us. 'It is also the brand colour of Al Ghurair, which owns Kabi, creating consistency while differentiating Kabi through design, tone, and purpose.' Long-term Dubai residents may remember that purple taxis were previously on the roads in the mid-2010s as part of City Taxi, but they have not been seen on our roads for several years. From Vaastu to AI, Asutosh College launches 25 courses to boost employability
A well-known educational institution in Kolkata, the 1916-established Asutosh College, in a major initiative, has launched as many as 25 skill-oriented courses — ranging from Vaastu Shastra to Beekeeping to Artificial Intelligence — with the aim of enhancing student employability. While it has become common for colleges to offer short-term skill-based programmes, this is possibly the first instance in West Bengal where an institution has launched such a wide range of courses simultaneously. Each course is priced at ₹999. 'These certificate courses are starting now, in the middle of June, and will be held every year henceforth. Conducted by the faculty of the different departments of Asutosh College, each course will be of 50 hours' duration, conducted over a period of twelve weeks in the blended mode (online and offline),' principal of the college, Dr. Manas Kabi, told The Hindu. 'Students of Asutosh College as well as colleges from across West Bengal will be eligible to enrol in these courses. I am 100% hopeful that they will stand to benefit in a competitive atmosphere. Take the course in Vaastu Shastra, for example. There are so many flats being constructed across the country and they are all being constructed on the basis of Vaastu Shastra. Therefore, there is a need for certified Vaastu experts,' Dr. Kabi said. Several of these courses, including the one on Vaastu Shastra, fall under the Indian Knowledge System, promoted by the National Education Policy of 2020, which has been implemented in West Bengal only recently. The Vaastu Shastra course will be conducted by Asutosh College's Department of Sanskrit, led by Assistant Professors Arnab Patra and Somnath Das. 'Course attractions include identifying whether Vaastu Shastra is recognised within scientific thought; finding a better direction in life based on time, astrology and star-based architecture; designing and building a house as per the right Vaastu, both the interior and the exterior; and identifying various problems in the home and looking at ways to solve them so that a better life can be found through Vaastu Shastra,' said Dr. Patra. According to him, about a dozen students have already enrolled in the course. The Department of Botany will, likewise, conduct a course on Herbalism and Aromatherapy, aimed at enabling students to participate in industries that connect herbs and aroma with physical and mental wellness. Other courses include Travel and Tourism Management, Wildlife Conservation and Ecotourism, Data Analytics, Ornamental Fish Breeding, Radiology, and Clinical Pathology and Geology.

BJP condemns vandalism at Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh, holds protest rallies across Tripura
The BJP on Saturday took out protest rallies across Tripura condemning the recent vandalism at Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh. Apart from the state capital, Agartala, protest rallies were organised at Kailasahar in Unakoti district, Raghna international border area in North Tripura district, Sonamura in Sepahijala district, and Belonia in South Tripura district. Protesters were seen trying to breach barricades at some places; however, there was no report of any kind of clash anywhere. 'We all know that the ancestral residence of Rabindranath Tagore at Sirajganj district in Bangladesh was vandalised on June 11. We strongly protested against it and condemned it… We never say that Rabindranath Tagore was a Hindu poet; he was Biswakabi. We assembled at Raghna to protest against the vandalism,' said Bagbasa BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath. A senior police officer in Unakoti said adequate security was deployed at the rally in the district to maintain law and order. At the protest rally in Sonamura, former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik criticised Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh's interim government. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, who joined the protest rally in Belonia, said, 'This kind of incident (vandalism) will not be tolerated by the Government of India and the Tripura government. As part of the statewide protests, we hit the streets in Belonia.' Meanwhile, Tipra Motha party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma wrote on his Facebook page, 'We condemn the vandalising of Kabi guru Rabindranath Tagore home in Bangladesh. He not only wrote our national anthem but also that of present-day Bangladesh. How ungrateful can some people be to first vandalise Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's statue and now Rabindranath Tagore's home! Not to forget that they also burnt down Maharaja Birchandra Library in Comilla. When will we realise that these people are one of the most ungrateful people around?' A Tipra Motha delegation led by Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Tripura Governor. In the memorandum, the BJP alliance partner urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to directly oversee the process of detection and deportation of illegal migrants who entered the state after March 24, 1971. The party also demanded the setting up of a special central task force for the detection and deportation of illegal migrants.

Students Hilariously Mistake Teacher's Musical Instrument For Vape
Subscribe to our FREE Music teacher Cikgu Khairul had a hilarious moment with his class when his young students accused him of smoking vape. In the video posted on his TikTok account @khairulandryan, he was about to play the guitar when a student complained that he smokes but told them not to. Momentarily confused, he asked where's the cigarette and one of his students pointed towards the item hung around his neck. siapa ada benda ni 🤣🤣 The colourful item around his neck is a musical instrument known as the kazoo. Khairul, you, and I know that, but the students don't, which makes the interaction funnier as it goes on. Realizing why they thought the colourful instrument was a vape, he proceeded to explain to the class that the item is not what they think it is. Khairul decided to turn it into an educational moment, asking the class to guess what's the name of musical instrument. He said he would give anyone who got the right answer 2000 Robux, the virtual currency in the Roblox game worth almost RM100. This immediately got the class' attention and the students involved, with one asking for the first letter. Khairul told them the instrument started with a K and gave them a few more clues while they tried guessing. At one point, Khairul nearly gave the answer away by saying ''Zoo.'' Fortunately for him, the instrument is new to the students so they didn't catch on but came up with interesting names like Kabi, Krog, and Koko Krunch. After a few rounds of guessing, Khairul revealed the name of the instrument is Kazoo but the students kept pronouncing it as 'Kazo.' He then asked which song they wanted to hear to be played with the kazoo and a girl requested for the song Aspalela by Saiful Apek. Over in the comments, netizens also tried guessing the name of the musical instrument in hopes that they could get Robux as well. Some were also surprised that the young students know the song Aspalela which was released in 2007. Most were impressed that the students know smoking was bad and praised them for being well behaved. Mostly, they loved how Khairul created a fun and lively environment for the students to learn. Share your thoughts with us via TRP's .
