Tourism Minister flags off 11 bus services in Salem

Tourism Minister R. Rajendran flagged off 11 bus services on the extended routes in the district on Monday (July 7, 2025). In a function held at Salem Old Bus Stand, the Minister flagged off the buses to new, and extended routes under the Mahalir Vidiyal Payanam. The Minister inspected the buses and checked the availability of seats. The Minister said that after the DMK came to power, old buses were replaced with new ones and for the benefit of all sections of people, especially women, buses were being operated on new routes and the existing buses were operated on extended routes. Based on the demands of the public, 11 bus services were flagged off, including town buses from Salem Old Bus Stand to Junction via New Bus Stand - from Edappadi to Komarapalayam, from Omalur to Keeranur, from Mettur to Karaikadu via Kolathur and Govindapadi, from Attur to Unathur via Thalaivasal, and from Mettur to Tharamangalam via Nangavalli bus, the Minister added. Mr. Rajendran said the town bus that operated from Old Bus Stand to Pappampadi via Siddar Kovil, Nallanampatti, and Elampillai would additionally cover Kadayampatti. The bus operating from Old Bus Stand to Junction was extended to Veppilaipatti. Likewise, the bus operating between Mecheri and Keerakaranu would be operated from Omalur, the bus operating from Nallamathi to Attur would cover Kadambur Government School, and the bus operating from Mettur to Moolakadu would cover Adaiyur, Mecheri, and Pukkampatti. District Revenue Officer Ravikumar, Deputy Mayor M. Saradha Devi and officials participated.
