Tamhini Ghat receives 370mm rain; 205mm recorded in Lonavla; water discharge from Khadakwasla dam reduced
Pune: Several parts of Pune received light showers on Friday, against the India Meteorological Department's forecast of yellow alert. The break in heavy spell provided a breather to thousands of warkaris, who accompanied the annual Sant Tukaram and Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhis. They are headed to Pandharpur for the Ashadhi Ekadashi rituals. The ghat sections in the district continued to witness a significant spell, with Tamhini and Lonavla recording 370mm and 205mm rain respectively in 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Friday. Elsewhere, Kurvande recorded 129mm rain, followed by Girivan (160mm), Nimgiri (116mm), Bhor (109mm), Malin (69mm), and Talegaon (65.5mm). For Saturday, IMD has issued a yellow alert (moderate to heavy rain) for Pune. IMD has predicted "generally cloudy sky; light rain very likely". All the key stations in Pune recorded "light to moderate" rain in the 24 hours ending at 8.30pm on Friday. These locations included Shivajinagar (25.7mm), Pashan (33.8mm), Lohegaon (26.6mm), Chinchwad (35.5mm), Lavale (40.0mm), Magarpatta (31mm), and NDA (38mm). The irrigation department on Friday reduced the water discharge from Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river to a rate of 7,800 cusecs from 15,000 cusecs on Thursday night. The release began with 2,000 cusecs on Thursday morning. The live water stock has been brought down to 70.5% of the dam's capacity. On Friday, the southwest monsoon further advanced into the remaining parts of Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, parts of west Uttar Pradesh, most parts of Uttarakhand, many parts of Himachal Pradesh, and some parts of Ladakh, IMD officials said. A senior IMD official said, "Light to moderate rainfall is very likely to occur at most places in the districts of Konkan-Goa, at a few places over south Madhya Maharashtra and at isolated places over north Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on Saturday." A number of weather systems are escalating the probability of rainfall, IMD said. They include a low-pressure area over south Bihar, an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan, and a trough running from northwest Uttar Pradesh to the north Gujarat region across the above cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan. IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into central and adjoining north, south Arabian Sea, northeast Arabian Sea along and off Gujarat-Maharashtra coast between June 20 and 24; along and off north Konkan coast on June 23. PMC clears choked drains Officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) drainage and road departments said that teams were busy clearing choked drains and accumulated water from various spots on Friday. People, however, said that the civic administration now faces the challenge of repairing potholes and resurfacing roads. Santosh Kadu, who often takes Apte Road, said that two drainage chambers were overflowing on Wednesday. "Though water has stopped flowing out from the chambers the condition of the road has worsened," Kadu said. PMC's water supply department has decided not to draw water from a well located at Barangani Mala in the Sinhagad Road area for the next couple of days as a precautionary measure following heavy spells of rain. A nullah in the area started overflowing on Wednesday. Additional water tankers are being pressed into service to cater to Dhayri, Sinhagad Road and Nanded. The civic administration plans to take up a cleaning drive in the well and nearby areas after which water lifting will begin again, officials said.

Protesters disrupt Dy CM Ajit Pawar's speech
PROTESTERS SUPPORTING Bachchu Kadu's hunger strike disrupted Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's speech in Pune on Saturday. Pawar was in Pune for the inauguration of Pune Model School and model primary health centre as well as for the Excellent Teacher Award distribution ceremony. As soon as he began his speech, a group of protesters interrupted him and pressed their demands. Pawar asked the police to let the protesters speak after the police began dragging them out. Prahar Janshakti Party founder Bachchu Kadu has been on an indefinite hunger strike over demands relating to loan waiver for farmers and disability rights issues. Soon after the incident at Pawar's event, Kadu called off his hunger strike on the seventh day after getting assurances from the state government. Responding to the protestors, Pawar said, 'Yesterday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis sent Amravati Guardian Minister Chandrashekar Bawankule as a representative of the state government to have a discussion with Kadu. Bawankule himself called up Fadnavis and had Kadu speak with him. The CM assured Kadu that a committee has been formed, of which Kadu will also be a part, which will look into his demands. The committee will submit its report before the state government, and accordingly what ever will be possible will be done in the Cabinet.' Not satisfied by the response, the protestors continued shouting their demands at the event on Saturday. Pawar then ordered the police personnel to move the protestors. Kadu Ends Hunger Strike After State Govt Assurance
Nagpur/Amravati: Prahar Janshakti Party (PJP) president Bachchu Kadu on Saturday ended his week-long hunger strike at Gurukunj Mozari in Amravati after receiving a written assurance from the Maharashtra govt regarding his key demands. Industries Minister Uday Samant handed Kadu an official letter from revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, confirming the state's commitment to address the issues in a time-bound manner. Kadu, who was on hunger strike since Sunday last, was demanding the implementation of 17 key demands, most prominently a blanket farm loan waiver, issuance of fresh agricultural loans ahead of the kharif season, and an increase in the monthly honorarium to persons with disabilities (divyangs). According to the letter from Bawankule, the govt agreed to constitute a high-powered committee within 15 days to finalise the mechanism for the farm loan waiver. A formal decision on the waiver will follow the committee's report. It also states that the govt will hold a separate meeting to decide on stopping the forcible recovery of pending farm loans and facilitating the disbursal of new crop loans. Regarding the hike in the monthly honorarium for divyangs, the letter notes that a budgetary provision for this will be included in the supplementary demands scheduled for the monsoon session of the legislature beginning June 30. For the remaining demands, the govt assured further meetings with concerned ministers and the chief minister. K adu ended his agitation after recieving the letter, breaking his fast by accepting juice from Samant. Later, both leaders paid tribute to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj at Mozari. MLA Amol Mitkari and senior leader Kamaltai Gawai were also present. Kadu also spoke with CM Devendra Fadnavis on the phone. Samant expressed gratitude to Kadu for responding positively to the state's appeal. "The govt has taken his demands seriously. His health deteriorated over the past few days, and we are relieved that he has ended his fast," he said. Kadu, while thanking supporters, warned that if the promises made are not implemented, he along with supporters will march into Mumbai's Mantralaya on Oct 2. "This is only a pause. If the govt does not act, we will return with stronger resolve," he said. The protest, which drew wide political attention and backing from opposition parties including the Congress, was aimed at pressing for unconditional farm loan waivers and urgent relief measures for affected communities. Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar earlier expressed solidarity with Kadu, urging the govt to act instead of issuing fresh assurances. "If the govt is serious, it must act, not delay further," Wadettiwar said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Bachchu Kadu ends fast over farm loan waiver; supporters create ruckus at Ajit Pawar's event
1 2 3 Pune: Hours before Prahar Janshakti Party president Bachchu Kadu called off his six-day hunger strike in Amravati district demanding a farm loan waiver, his supporters disrupted deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar 's speech at the Ganesh Kala Krida Manch auditorium in Pune on Saturday. Protesters went near the stage where school education minister Dada Bhuse was also present and raised slogans. The NCP chief, in an attempt to pacify them, said state govt has decided to form a committee to study Kadu's demand. "Kadu will also be on the panel that will prepare a report based on which state cabinet will make a decision," Pawar said at an event organised by the education department. When the supporters refused to disperse, the deputy CM ordered police to remove them from the auditorium. Still undaunted, they tried to stage a sit-in on the Manch premises following which police detained them. "Mayahuti promised a loan waiver and other schemes for the farmers during the assembly election campaign. However, after forming govt, they forgot these promises. Though Kadu had been on a hunger strike for nearly a week, govt did not bother to enquire about his deteriorating health. That is why we decided to raise slogans in front of Pawar, just to attract govt's attention towards these issues," one of the protesters said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo When asked about the ruckus, Kadu told the media in Amravati that his deteriorating health agitated his supporters. "While I appeal to them (protesters) not to take the law into their own hands, I warn govt not to test our patience. Govt was not ready to utter a word on a loan waiver and started discussing the issue only after I began the strike." Former MLA Kadu went on an indefinite hunger strike on June 8 over loan waiver among other issues affecting farmers. Earlier on Saturday, industries minister Uday Samant met him at the protest site after which he ended the fast. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Abitkar attributes delay in loan waiver to Ladki Bahin scheme; no mention in BJP's poll manifesto, says Save
Kolhapur/Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Two ministers on Saturday made contradictory claims on the possibility of a farm loan waiver in Maharashtra as Mahayuti govt is reeling under pressure from politicians like Prahar Janshakti Party president Bachchu Kadu and Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana chief Raju Shetti. Health minister Prakash Abitkar (Shiv Sena) said in Kolhapur that a delay in announcing a loan waiver was because of the financial constraints state is facing on account of Ladki Bahin scheme. "Govt is not deliberately delaying the loan waiver; it is getting delayed," Abitkar, who is also Kolhapur's district guardian minister, said at a gathering of Mahayuti functionaries to discuss the allocation of district planning and development council funds. "Then Ajit Pawar said he was not the one who made the promise. Therefore, we are doubtful about the intentions of govt. As per the assurance to Kadu, a committee to study his demand on farm loan waiver will be set up in 15 days. We demand that the panel be given a timeline to submit its report. " Animal husbandry and dairy development minister Atul Save, however, said BJP's poll manifesto never promised a loan waiver to farmers. "You may check it for yourself. The promises made are being implemented in a phased manner based on priority," the BJP politician said at a press conference in Hingoli. He visited the district as part of an outreach campaign to mark 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led govt at Centre. Reacting to the statement, the legislative council's leader of opposition, Ambadas Danve, said that the power has gone to the head of BJP and its leadership. "The farmers will show them their place," he said. Following Kadu's withdrawal from the hunger strike in Amravati district on Saturday, Shetti announced cancellation of his planned chakka jam (road blockade) across Maharashtra on June 15, which was intended to advocate for a loan waiver.
