Abhishek Bachchan opens up on being pitted against Hrithik Roshan during Bollywood debuts: ‘You can't compare…'

Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan started their journey in the film industry together in the year 2000. While Hrithik's film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai became a blockbuster, Abhishek and Kareena's Refugee failed to make a mark at the box office. In a recent interview with Times of India, Abhishek opened up about whether he felt insecure after being pitted against Hrithik post their Bollywood debuts. Abhishek Bachchan talks about being pitted against Hrithik Roshan after their Bollywood debuts. Abhishek admitted that he and Hrithik were pitted against each other because they debuted at the same time and added, 'But no, as a newcomer, I was never ever insecure. I never thought of it like that because I never looked upon anybody as my competition, and I don't mean that arrogantly. I mean it from a sense of, I can't do what you do, and you can't do what I do, because this is me physically. You can't compare artists somewhere, I feel that goes against artistry. See, who you prefer is different. That's your choice. I'll give you an example from art.' He went on to explain how comparisons in the creative field can often be unfair. Using Indian art as an example, he mentioned that two of his favourite painters are Subhash Awchat and Paresh Maity, both of whom he deeply admires. According to him, deciding who is the 'better' artist between the two is not possible, as art is subjective. One may prefer one over the other, but declaring one as superior undermines the individuality of their work. He believes the same principle should apply to actors. He also recalled an insightful moment during the shoot of Sarkar with Ram Gopal Varma. At the time, he was nominated for an award for his role in Yuva and was keen to attend the ceremony. However, RGV made him understand how award shows don't offer a fair comparison, as all actors are nominated for different roles they have played. Abhishek further heaped praise on Hrithik and said, 'Hrithik is a great actor and a friend. I'm genuinely immensely happy for all that he's achieved and continues to achieve. But more than that, I love the person that he is. And so there's never been any animosity toward any of my colleagues. I genuinely want them to do well. I want my colleagues and my co-stars to be so good. Because that is a constant inspiration for me. It makes you aspire to, 'Oh, that person is doing such a good job. I should also work hard'.' Abhishek Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan's upcoming movies Abhishek and Hrithik, both star kids, have established themselves well in Bollywood. Abhishek is all set to star in Madhumita's directorial Kaalidhar Laapata. The film is scheduled to release on ZEE5 on July 4. Hrithik, on the other hand, will next be seen in War 2. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, the film also stars Kiara Advani and Jr NTR and is the sixth instalment in the YRF Spy Universe. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on August 14, clashing with Rajinikanth's Coolie.

Abhishek Bachchan opens up on being pitted against Hrithik Roshan when 'Refugee' and 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' released in the same year: 'Can't compare artists, it's unfair

Abhishek Bachchan made his debut in 2000 with JP Dutta's 'Refugee' along with Kareena Kapoor Khan. In the same year, Hrithik Roshan 's 'Kaho Hai' had also released. It was obvious that there were comparisons between the two actors, also because both of them belonged to the industry. Not to mention, Abhishek also came with a greater responsibility breing Amitabh Bachchan's son. In a recent interview with ETimes, when we asked Abhishek if he ever felt a sense of insecurity, here's what he said. One also can't oversee the way 'Kaho Hai' looked in its entirety, as opposed to 'Refugee' which was rather simple in its core. Was Abhishek ever insecure as a debutant? Reacting to it, he said, "We would be pitted against each other right? I mean, we debuted in the same year. But no, as a newcomer, I was never ever insecure. I never thought of it like that because I never looked upon anybody as my competition and I don't mean that arrogantly. I mean it from a sense of, I can't do what you do and you can't do what I do because this is me physically. You can't compare artists somewhere I feel that goes against artistry. I'll give you an example from art." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? Who's the better painter? You can't say it. It's subjective. You can choose who appeals better to you but you can't say this guy is better than the other. You shouldn't say it for actors either. What I'm saying is, it's very unfair and wrong to say that about an artist. Oh, he's better. You can say, 'Oh I prefer him. But you can't say, 'Oh he's better'." Abhishek further recalled an instance with director Ram Gopal Varma which further taught him why actors can never be compared. He said, "You know Ramu told me something. We were shooting for 'Sarkar'. It happened funnily because there was an award function which I wanted to go to. I was nominated. I think I was nominated for Yuva and I wanted to go but I was shooting. Then, Ramu told me, 'I don't believe in awards and all'. I said why? Because in those days awards were a really big thing. Sadly today it's just fallen off, and it's sad because today we don't have anything genuine that celebrates our work. I said 'I want to go because I have a good chance to win.' He said, 'But why does that validate you?' I said, 'What do you mean?' He asked me, 'Who are the other people nominated for best supporting actor?' I said, 'so and so..'. He quipped, 'They've done other roles. When you give a school exam everybody writes the same paper and you're judged on that. So, over here all of you do Lallan Singh from 'Yuva' and then we'll see who's better.' I said, 'Wow'. So, for me, I feel, we should say who we prefer as an actor. We can't ever say who's a better actor." The 'Guru' actor further opened up on his bonding with childhood buddy Hrithik and said, "Hrithik is a great actor and a friend. I'm genuinely immensely happy for all that he's achieved and continues to achieve. But more than that, I love the person that he is. And so there's never been any animosity to any of my colleagues. I genuinely want them to do well. I want my colleagues, and my co-stars to be so good. Because that is a constant inspiration for me. It makes you aspire to, 'Oh that person is doing such a good job. I should also work hard'."

Father's Day 2025: From Salman Khan to Alia Bhatt, 8 Bollywood star kids who surpassed their fathers in stardom

In the ever-evolving world of Bollywood, lineage has often opened doors, but sustaining success in the industry depends on talent. While many star kids grow under the shadow of their parents, only a few of them are able to carve a niche for themselves. On the occasion of Father's Day, here's a look at Bollywood star kids who outshone their fathers and emerged as icons in their own right. (Also Read: 6 heartwarming films to watch with your dad on Father's Day, and where to stream them) Today, star kids are constantly scrutinised for their privilege, but a few of them have carved their own legacy, surpassing even the fame and impact of their fathers. Prithviraj Kapoor is credited as one of the founding figures of Indian cinema, a pioneer who brought theatre and films closer to the masses. However, his son and actor Raj Kapoor, earned the title of The Showman of Indian Cinema. With films like Awaara, Shree 420, and Mera Naam Joker, Raj became a symbol of Indian cinema's golden era, respected not only in India but celebrated across Russia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Rakesh was a popular actor in the 70s and 80s and later found acclaim as a director with hits like Karan Arjun and Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai. But his son Hrithik Roshan's debut was nothing short of a phenomenon. With Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Hrithik became an overnight superstar and has since established himself as one of India's finest actors and dancers with a massive fan base, blockbusters and hits like War, Dhoom 2, Krrish 3, Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara and more. Mahesh Bhatt was a respected filmmaker known for his bold and thought-provoking cinema, but it is his daughter Alia Bhatt who has become a household name across generations. From Highway to Raazi, Gangubai Kathiawadi to Darlings, Alia has shown unmatched range and versatility, becoming one of the most bankable and awarded stars in Bollywood today. She also managed to grow her international presence with her Hollywood debut in Heart of Stone. While Randhir Kapoor had a fair run in the 70s, his daughter Kareena has enjoyed a far more impactful and enduring career. From redefining style in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to her layered roles in Jab We Met, Omkara, and Udta Punjab, Kareena continues to be one of the most iconic figures in the industry. Veteran writer Salim Khan made a lasting impact on Indian cinema as part of the iconic screenwriting duo Salim-Javed, penning blockbusters like Sholay, Deewaar, and Zanjeer and making actors stars in Bollywood. However, his son Salman Khan turned into a household name across India and beyond. With a career spanning over three decades, Salman's superstardom is unmatched, delivering one box office hit after another, launching several new actors, running successful businesses, and building a charitable foundation. Salman has given some of the most iconic and blockbuster films in Bollywood like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Andaz Apna Apna and more. Veeru Devgan was a respected action director in Bollywood, known for designing stunts in films throughout the 70s and 80s. Though his work remained behind the scenes, his son Ajay Devgn took the front seat in style. Making a stellar debut with Phool Aur Kaante, Ajay quickly established himself as a powerful performer and action hero. With National Awards, multiple commercial successes, and gaining fame not only as an actor but even as a filmmaker, Ajay has become one of the industry's most bankable stars. From Singham, Drishyam to Tanhaji, his films resonate with audiences. Pankaj Kapur has long been admired as one of India's finest character actors, celebrated for his work in films like Ek Doctor Ki Maut and shows like Office Office. His nuanced performances earned him critical acclaim and National Awards. But his son Shahid Kapoor earned a different kind of fame. From gaining fame and recognition as chocolate-boy Ishq Vishk to wooing the audience with his intense roles in Haider, Kabir Singh, and Farzi, Shahid evolved into a versatile leading man and one of the most bankable stars of his generation. His mass appeal and box office prowess gave him a far broader reach than his father in Bollywood. Tahir was a respected film producer and occasional actor in the 1970s and '80s. Known for producing films like Caravan and Anamika, he had a decent standing in the industry. However, his son Aamir made a smashing debut as the leading actor with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and rose to fame. He has since become one of the most celebrated actors in Indian cinema. With iconic performances in Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots, and Dangal, Aamir is known for his perfectionism and has created his own legacy.

Happy Birthday Ameesha Patel: Bollywood has seen its fair share of rising stars and fading lights, but some leave a lasting impact on the industry. Ameesha Patel, who marked her 50th birthday on June 9th, garnered immense praise with her debut film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. Her stunning screen presence and promising performance earned her the tag of 'next big thing' in Bollywood. However, her career soon hit a rough patch, giving 20 flops in a row. Ameesha's entry into Bollywood was nothing short of meteoric. The actress recently revealed that she turned down a lucrative job offer from Morgan Stanley to pursue her passion for acting. However, her decision paid off when she made her debut with Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in 2000. The film became the highest-grossing film of the year, catapulting Ameesha and Hrithik Roshan to overnight stardom. Her next film, Gadar Ek Prem Katha, opposite Sunny Deol, further solidified Ameesha's position in the industry. Following the overwhelming success, the actress received a spot among the A-list actresses. However, her career trajectory took a hit with films like Humraaz and Kya Yehi Pyaar, which failed to perform well at the box office. Despite her initial success, Ameesha struggled to sustain her momentum and gave 20 flops in a row. Ameesha Patel's career hit a rough patch by 2006, but she made a comeback with Priyadarshan's Bhool Bhulaiyaa, starring alongside Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. After this, she took a break from the industry, staying away from the limelight for several years. However, in 2023, Ameesha made a successful comeback with Gadar 2, the sequel to her earlier hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Sawadika Koh Samui: This island in Thailand is emerging as a favourite with filmmakers in Bollywood and the West

Imagine this: walking barefoot on white sand beaches in the warm glow of the rising sun. The pristine waters make you forget all about your phone and 'urgent Zoom meetings'. Did this image take you to Thailand? This Southeast Asian country's stunning locales have been a favourite backdrop for Bollywood shoots — from the title track of Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000) at Phra Nang Beach in Krabi to Housefull 2's (2012) song Do You Know and the destination wedding scenes from Student of the Year (2012). In 2024, over 2.1 million Indian tourists visited Thailand, making India the country's third-largest tourist market. And 2025 is already seeing strong momentum. With more direct flights, and a collective craving for sun and sand, Indians are heading to Thailand in droves — and discovering gems like Koh Samui along the way. The island of Koh Samui, right off the east coast of Thailand, is known for its beaches, nightlife, and warm hospitality. It's growing popularity was evident to the author as throngs of international travellers waited for their connecting flight from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. The more than hour-long flight touched down on Koh Samui International airport's runway — bordered with breath taking greenery that set the tone for what's to come. Like the food. When in Thailand, especially Koh Samui, start with a sip of the freshest coconut water you'll ever taste. Trust us, you're not ready for it. From street-side mango sticky rice and local specialties like salapao (Thai-style steamed buns) to the seven-course meal at Tree Tops Signature Dining at Anantara Lawana — every dish is out of this world. Besides what Koh Samui already offers, another reason why it's become a trendy travel destination is thanks to the new season of The White Lotus. Yours truly got to experience some of the spots that featured on the show, including Anantara Bophut and Anantara Lawana resorts. The White Lotus effect basically attributes the show's appeal for boosting travel at whichever location it's set in. Hotels have reported as much as a whopping 104% year-over-year increase in web-traffic from users after the show's third season released earlier this year. The library of Anantara Bophut became a jewellery store that gets robbed, while the stunning entrance was retained as is for the fictional White Lotus resort. It's surreal to see the lamps bringing the night to life, just like they did on the show. The Singing Bird lounge, nestled atop a 120-year-old tree at Anantara Lawana, featured as a bar on the show. And you realise why the makers chose it as you experience it yourself. No wonder viewers were curious. After the show's premiere in February, a travel portal reported that search results for Koh Samui increased by 15% compared to the January average and by 50% compared to the same time in 2024. Samui Elephant Sanctuary, Bophut - Set on forested land, it's like a retirement home for rescued elephants Fisherman's Village, Bophut - A historical part of Bophut with preserved traditional buildings Chaweng Beach - The longest and popular beach in Koh Samui Lamai Night Market - A lively walking street for your shopping and street food fix
