Texas Tech softball is revamping its roster, adding more pitching and power

LUBBOCK, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – After coming within one game of winning their first national title, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have added some firepower to the roster, bringing in four out of the top-10 transfers available. The first one being UCLA's Kaitlyn Terry, a two-way player who tallied 35 hits and 30 runs last season while also posting a 20-5 record, 2.64 ERA, and 172 strikeouts. A much-needed addition that will help take the load off of Nijaree Canady. Next up is Tennessee's Taylor Pannell, an All-American redshirt sophomore who held a 1.240 OPS, a .398 batting average, 74 hits, 34 walks, 16 homers, and 65 RBI for the Lady Vols last season. Mia Williams will also head to Lubbock after transferring from Florida. Daughter of former NBA champion Jason Williams, the second baseman posted a 1.144 OPS, 61 hits, 52 runs, 19 homers, and 44 RBI for the Gators. She was also named an All-American. Ohio State catcher Jasmyn Burns is taking her talents to Lubbock as well. This past season the All-American sophomore had the fourth most home runs with 25, setting a program single-season record. Burns was a monster from the plate, being the eighth-best hitter in the nation, thanks to a .455 batting average, 14th in RBI with 72, fifth in slugging percentage (1.006), fifth in total bases (166), and seventh in OPS (1.546). Jackie Lis, a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team selection and former MVP of the league, is the last to join the Red Raiders. During her time at Southern Illinois, Lis led the program to three MCV regular season titles. She is also the program's time leader in home runs with 44. This past season, Lis had 58 hits, 48 RBI, 33 walks, and a .358 batting average. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. More Bruin magic: Jessica Clements' walk-off homer powers UCLA past Oregon at WCWS

Jessica Clements hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the seventh inning early Friday morning to carry ninth-seeded UCLA past No. 16 Oregon 4-2 at the Women's College World Series, after the Ducks tied the game in the top of the inning on a call at home plate that was overturned. Catcher Alexis Ramirez also hit a two-run homer in support of Bruins' starter Kaitlyn Terry, who pitched a four-hitter and gave up one earned run. UCLA (55-11) will play No. 12 seed Texas Tech on Saturday at 4 p.m. (PDT) for a spot in the semifinals. Oregon (53-9) will face unseeded Mississippi in Friday's elimination game. Oregon's Paige Sinicki doubled inside the third-base line to lead off the seventh, but the ruling was challenged by UCLA. The call was upheld, but the next hitter, Dezianna Patmon bunted Sinicki to third with one out. Emma Cox followed with a ground ball to third baseman Jordan Woolery, who tried to throw Sinicki out at home. The throw to Ramirez was on time and Sinicki was ruled out at home for the second out. Advertisement Oregon challenged the call, and it was overturned after a video review showed obstruction by Ramirez. Oregon led 1-0 in the fourth inning when Ramirez hit a two-out pitch from starter Lyndsey Grein over the left-field wall to give UCLA a 2-1 lead. It was the first runs the Bruins had scored against Grein in four games this season. The Ducks took two of three from UCLA in April. After Woolery singled and Megan Grant walked to open the sixth, Grein was pulled in favor of Elise Sokolsky, who retired the next two batters. Lightning and rain resulted in a 75-minute delay, and two brief power outages lasting less than a minute each, turned Devon Park dark in the first inning. Advertisement Oregon scored first against Terry in the third inning. Kaylynn Jones led with an infield single before a bunt by Katie Flannery. Jones took third on a ground out by Kai Luschar. Her sister, Kedre Luschar, then drove in Jones on a single to right field. The Bruins nearly answered in their half of the inning when Savannah Pola drove a pitch from Grein 220 feet to the base of the center-field wall that was hauled in by Kedre Luschar to end the inning. Re-ranking the 8 teams to make the Women's College World Series

Re-ranking the 8 teams to make the Women's College World Series In just a few days, the sports world sets its focus on Oklahoma City, where eight collegiate softball teams will descend to decide the 2025 national champion. Seven teams will hope to be the one to end the Sooners' reign at the top of the sport. However, they'll have to go through an Oklahoma team that's playing as well as they have at any point this season. There are legit contenders for the national title, however. Several of them are from the SEC. The SEC makes up five of the eight teams set to play in the Women's College World Series. But how do the remaining eight teams stack up? We re-rank the remaining eight teams in the WCWS. More: Social media reacts to Oklahoma's 13-2 win over Alabama to advance to WCWS 8. Oregon Ducks The Oregon Ducks are a good team, but how good is hard to tell. They benefitted from Liberty's upset of Texas A&M with an easier path to Oklahoma City than much of the tournament field. But the Ducks have simply taken care of business since losing to Michigan in the Big Ten tournament. 7. Ole Miss Rebels It may not have been as big of an upset as Liberty over Texas A&M, but Ole Miss knocking off what was a red-hot Arkansas team is pretty impressive. Ole Miss jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, which included a Lair Beautae home run, just her third of the season. The Rebels scored 16 runs in their two wins over the Razorbacks. If they can get enough outs, they'll be a tough out in OKC. 6. UCLA Bruins UCLA trailed 4-1 in the seventh inning of game two against the South Carolina Gamecocks and force game three. In game three, Bruins pitchers Kaitlyn Terry and Taylor Tinsley combined for a shutout of the Gamecocks. 5. Texas Tech Red Raiders If you've got NiJaree Canady, you've got a chance. The Texas Tech Red Raiders knocked off a really good Florida State Seminoles squad in Tallahassee, allowing just one run in the process. 4. Texas Longhorns Texas had to survive a tough super regional battle with the Clemson Tigers but received just enough timely hitting to advance to win in extra innings on Saturday and then get just enough pitching to survive a seventh inning rally on SundayThis Longhorns team is experienced and battle tested. They've got the offense to win it all. 3. Florida Gators Taylor Shumaker provided the insurance for Florida with a two-run home run to help the Florida Gators clinch a tough series against the Georgia Bulldogs. 2. Tennessee Volunteers Karlyn Pickens threw a complete game shutout in game three of their series against Nebraska, outdueling Jordy Bahl in the process. Pickens allowed just two hits and struck out 10. She's among the three best pitchers in college softball. Can the Vols give her enough run support? 1. Oklahoma Sooners In five NCAA Tournament games, the Oklahoma Sooners have four run rule wins. They've scored 10 or more three times and have a pair of shutouts to go with it. The Oklahoma Sooners will have a tough road to the WCWS finals, but they're the team to beat in Oklahoma City. Gress provides strong relieve, Winters homers as South Carolina tops UCLA 9-2 in Super Regional

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Lexi Winters had a two-run home run in the first inning and drove in three runs, Sam Gress threw three-plus innings of no-hit relief and eighth-seeded South Carolina opened the Columbia NCAA Super Regional with a 9-2 rout of eighth-seeded UCLA on Friday. Game 2 in the best-of-3 series is Saturday. A leadoff walk came before Winters' two-out blast to center field. Then Kaitlyn Terry (18-5) hit a batter and Brooke Blankenship ripped an RBI double down the rightfield line. Arianna Rodi roped a two-run single in the second for the Gamecocks (44-15). Alexis Ramierez and Sophia Mujica had RBI hits in the fourth for UCLA (52-11) but Abigail Knight answered with a two-run double in the fifth and and South Carolina wrapped it up with two runs in the sixth. Gress scattered four hits in 3 1/3 innings. ___ AP college sports:
