‘Kajra Re was the worst-rated in Bunty aur Babli, marketing team called it…': Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy on how Aishwarya-Amitabh-Abhishek song got popularity

Bunty Aur Babli's 'Kajra Re' may be one of those rare songs that refuses to age, but the song received a big thumbs down from the suits at Yash Raj before its release, recalled musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. In a new conversation, Ehsaan Noorani revealed that after an internal evaluation, the song which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, with lyrics by Gulzar, landed on bottom of the list. The trio have shaped the soundscape of Bollywood for more than two decades. They have scored movies like Dil Chahta Hai (2001), My Name is Khan (2010), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) and Rock On (2008), just to name a few. They have also composed the music for Aamir Khan's upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par and its 2007 prequel Taare Zameen Par. In a recent interview, the trio talked about their Bollywood projects and what all transpires behind the scenes when they are composing an album for a film. While making an appearance on the YouTube channel Just Filmy Things, the trio shed some light on their previous work. Ehsaan Noorani shared an anecdote about the song Kajra Re from the film Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and how the marketing team of the film initially did not give the song its due. He said, 'They did an internal evaluation about which song from the film will do well, and Kajra Re was at the bottom of the list. A bunch of people from marketing came together and gave feedback after listening to the song. It just so happened that 4 days after the song came out, I was coming out of the Mumbai airport, and a wedding band was already playing 'Kajra Re.'' Ehsaan also talked about how choosing Alisha Chinai to sing the female part of the song was an unprecedented move, but it still elevated the song to a new level. Shankar said, 'He is there all the time, and he is almost like a kid.' One time he called Amitabh Bhattacharya (lyricist) while he was vacationing in Kashmir and told him to rework the lyrics of a song.' The 'Breathless' singer added that many times Aamir will like the rough take of the song more and will decide to keep it in the movie, and that is what happened with 'Maa' from Taare Zameen Par and 'Good For Nothing' from Sitaare Zameen Par. 'If something clicks for Aamir, then nothing can be changed in it.' Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par will see Aamir play the role of a basketball coach who has been tasked with teaching the game to a group of neurodivergent kids. The cast of the film includes Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain and Ashish Pendse, among others. The music has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, while the background score and lyrics of the songs are the creation of Ram Sampath and Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film releases on June 20.

Almost 100 million views: Pune grandmother's ‘Kajra Re' dance moves becomes a symbol of financial freedom. Fund manager awestruck

A fund manager's weekend was made special—not by market movement, but by a Pune grandmother's viral dance video. Sharing the clip online, Gurmeet Chadha, Managing Partner and CIO at Compcircle, called it a vision of how one should age—or rather, grow young. For him and many others, the elderly woman's confident moves weren't just dance steps—they were symbolic of joyful aging and a life well-prepared. Her spirited performance sparked a broader conversation on the value of living fully, possibly enabled by smart financial planning that allows freedom and fun in old age. The video, shared by the 3DT Dance Crew on Instagram, shows a charismatic elderly woman—affectionately known as Dadi—lighting up the dance floor with grace, energy, and rhythm to the Bollywood classic Kajra Re. Dressed in a saree and surrounded by younger dancers, she delivers every move with poise and precision. The video has neared the 100-million view mark since being shared last month, resonating with audiences worldwide. Many viewers saw Dadi's performance not just as a feel-good moment, but as a powerful visual metaphor for what aging with dignity and financial independence can look like. Comments poured in from netizens who praised her vitality, speculating that she must have planned her retirement beautifully—emotionally and financially—to be this carefree and confident in her golden years. — connectgurmeet (@connectgurmeet) Some joked that grandmothers who invested in gold back in the '70s are now dancing their way through inflation. Others reflected on their own aging parents and grandparents, drawing inspiration to help their elders live more fulfilling lives. The overwhelming consensus was clear: Dadi had not just danced—she had inspired. Her moves also sparked nostalgic comparisons to legendary Indian dancers like Vyjayanthimala, who continues to dance well into her 90s. In a world often obsessed with youth and productivity, Dadi's viral performance has become an unlikely reminder of the beauty of aging well—with joy, movement, and possibly a well-structured retirement plan.

Aishwarya Rai dazzles, Aamir Khan disappoints? Rare clip of duo dancing to DDLJ song sparks reactions

Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai has mesmerised audiences over the years with her graceful dance moves in songs like Nimbuda, Kajra Re, and more. Now, an old video of her dancing to Shah Rukh Khan's iconic track Tujhe Dekha To from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, alongside Aamir Khan, has resurfaced online—and fans can't stop gushing over how good the duo looks together. (Also Read: We bet you haven't seen these vintage pics of Aishwarya Rai from 90s: 'God really was partial to her') The clip shows Aishwarya and Aamir dancing on stage, with Aishwarya dazzling in a pink lehenga-choli and Aamir sporting a jacket with denim jeans. The two are seen recreating the magic of the beloved romantic number Tujhe Dekha To from DDLJ with charming chemistry. The exact timeline of the event where the two performed together remains unclear. While some fans gushed about how good they looked together, others felt that Aishwarya carried the performance single-handedly, criticising Aamir's dancing skills. One of the comments read, 'They look so good together. Should've worked in a movie together.' Another said, 'The dress and the colour are so good! Also, all the ads they did for the soft drink brands—they looked dope and had very addictive chemistry. I wanted more of Aish with Aamir.' Criticising Aamir's dancing, one Reddit user wrote, 'He looks so awkward.' Another said, 'Aamir seems so uninterested.' A third commented, 'Aishwarya carrying the performance on her back,' while someone else remarked, 'Aamir is the second-worst dancer after Ajay among the '90s stars.' Another added, 'Damn, Aishwarya doing the mostest.' While Aishwarya has delivered hits with Shah Rukh Khan in Devdas, Mohabbatein, and with Salman Khan in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, she has never shared screen space with Aamir Khan. Aamir will next be seen in the film Sitaare Zameen Par, which also stars Genelia Deshmukh in the lead role. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the film is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones and features Aamir as a basketball coach training a team of differently-abled children. The sports comedy-drama is scheduled for theatrical release on 20 June. Aishwarya, on the other hand, is yet to announce his new project after Ponniyin Selvan II.
