Teen working in automobile workshop joins college after being motivated by additional collector
COIMBATORE: As part of the govt's Kalloori Kanavu scheme to reduce dropout rates, additional collector (development) Sanket Balwant Waghe counselled and convinced a teenager employed at an automobile workshop about the need for continuing his education and got him admitted to a private college. He had been working at an automobile workshop in Karumbukadai to support the family's financial needs. His friend Irfan had secured admission to the BA English literature programme at Nehru College of Arts and Science, Thirumalayampalayam. Salman had lost motivation and interest in continuing his studies, weighed down by personal challenges. Despite repeated efforts by Irfan and his schoolteachers, Salman remained hesitant to enrol for college education. On Tuesday, the additional collector and school teachers arrived at the automobile workshop. They engaged in conversation with Salman, encouraging him to rediscover his aspirations. After nearly 30 minutes of counselling, Salman's outlook shifted, and he expressed his wish to study and to join his friend Irfan in college. The additional collector accompanied Salman to Nehru College, facilitated his admission into the BA English literature course and ensured that every procedural limitation was cleared on the spot.

Dedicated control room for higher education set up in Dharmapuri
A special control room has been set up at the office of the Chief Education Officer to ensure cent percent higher education enrolment of students, who have passed out of Plus Two in 2023-24 and 2024-25, according to the district administration. Similarly, students who have not managed to clear Classes 11 and 12 will be absorbed into ITI courses, District Collector R. Sadheesh said. He was speaking to students interacting with them on higher education here. Mr. Sadheesh also visited the homes of students at Bharathiyar Nagar in Nallampalli and counselled students on higher education under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme. Interacting with the students, Collector Sadheesh said that all efforts were being made to create enabling conditions starting with the right guidance to choose the right course, to push students to pursue higher education. In order to increase the gross enrolment ratio in higher education among students who had passed out of Class XII in 2023-24 and 2024-25, Kalloori Kanavu, the counselling programme on higher education courses, was organised here in Dharmapuri and Harur last month. Coimbatore officials work for cent percent enrolment ratio in higher education
C oimbatore: The district administration is tracking down the status of students who cleared the Class XII board exam to ensure cent percent enrolment ratio in higher education. District collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar had convened a meeting with nodal officers in this regard on Friday. Pointing out that 114 officers were deployed to gather the enrolment status of students from all schools across the district, an official source said only 10,020 of the 10,301 students who cleared the Class XII board exam had applied for higher education. "All schools were earlier instructed to collect details about the higher education plans of students while issuing them transfer certificates. This helped us find that 281 students haven't applied for higher education," the source said. As a continuation of 'Kalloori Kanavu' career guidance programme, officers are now trying to track down these 281 students to know why they haven't applied for a higher education programme. Nodal officers appointed to track higher education enrolment of Government school students in Coimbatore
As part of the Kalloori Kanavu initiative of the Tamil Nadu Government, the Coimbatore District Administration has appointed 116 senior officials from various local bodies and the School Education Department as nodal officers to monitor higher education enrolment among students from 116 government schools who completed Class 12 during the 2024–2025 academic year. Following the direction of District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, the nodal officers visited each school to assess the enrolment status of all students who appeared for the board examinations. Their responsibilities also included identifying those who had not enrolled in any course and providing them with necessary guidance and support. According to official data, 10,301 students from government schools in the district have cleared the Class 12 exams. Among them 8,112 (78%) have already joined higher education institutions, while 1,908 students (18.5%) have submitted applications and are awaiting admission. A total of 281 students have not yet applied for any higher education programme. To ensure inclusive access, a district-level grievances redress camp was organised to support students who have not enrolled. A Higher Education Guidance Centre has also been established to assist students with counselling and application processes. A review meeting of all nodal officers was held on Friday, chaired by the District Collector. Officers presented field updates, and plans were discussed to ensure that all remaining students are guided into appropriate courses. 'Since various counselling processes have just now begun, the opportunities are still open. Officials have been instructed to ensure that every eligible student is enrolled,' said Chief Education Officer R. Balamurali.

More than 150 students attend in grievance redressal meeting in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: More than 150 students, along with their parents, took part in a student grievance redressal meeting conducted at the Coimbatore district collectorate on Friday. As many as 55 petitions regarding bank loans, certificates, scholarships and NEET training programmes were represented during the meeting. District collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar convened the redressal meeting for students who cleared classes X, XI and XII board examinations. In his address, the collector said, 'This is aimed at achieving a 100% higher education enrollment rate. Earlier, career guidance programmes were organised during the month of May for those who have passed their Class XII exam. There are nearly 175 colleges in the district that cover all streams of arts, engineering, medical and law, but not many are aware of the details.' He said a handbook released during the 'Kalloori Kanavu' programme provided detailed information on colleges and courses available, duration of courses, eligibility, total number of seats and other significant details. 'The details are available in copy as well,' he said. The collector said not many students are aware of the Allied Health Science course available and that it has a lot of opportunities. However, to pursue that course, the students should have cleared a science major in Class XII board examination.
