Kalmar launches next-generation lithium-ion battery technology for electric counter balanced equipment portfolio

Next gen Li-ion powered electric range KALMAR CORPORATION, TRADE PRESS RELEASE, 2 JULY 2025 AT 10:00 AM (EEST) Kalmar launches next-generation lithium-ion battery technology for electric counter balanced equipment portfolio Kalmar has introduced its second-generation lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery solution for its range of electrically powered counter balanced equipment: reachstackers, empty container handlers and forklifts. The new battery system delivers enhanced energy capacity, improved thermal stability, and a longer, more predictable performance curve across a wide range of operating environments. The solution is now available globally with the European standard, while versions for the US and Chinese standards will follow in 2026. Building on the success of its previous Li-ion solution, Kalmar's Gen 2 battery technology has been developed to meet the growing demands of customers seeking safer, more efficient and more sustainable cargo-handling solutions. The new battery features advanced cell chemistry that extends the battery's life cycle. With more energy throughput compared to the previous generation, customers can expect consistent and reliable performance over the long term. This results in reduced battery replacement costs and easier shift planning, contributing to lower total cost of ownership. With the Gen 2 solution, Kalmar electric equipment will substantially improve the battery capacity, e.g. Kalmar electric reachstackers will in a heavy duty application be able to operate up to 10 hours, allowing for greater flexibility and uptime in demanding terminal environments. In addition to increased energy capacity the Gen 2 battery also offers improved thermal resilience. This provides enhanced operational safety and stability, especially in hot climate conditions. Peter Berndtson, Vice President, Counter Balanced Product Line, Kalmar: "Our second-generation battery is a major step forward in helping our customers transition to fully electric fleets without compromising performance. The enhanced safety, longer lifespan and improved operating times provide our customers with a high level of predictability and peace of mind when it comes to managing their operations." Kalmar continues to lead the way in developing advanced, eco-efficient solutions for the material handling industry, supporting customers in meeting their electrification and sustainability goals. Kalmar launches Inspector – a new digital application to streamline daily equipment inspections

NB_Kalmar Services KALMAR CORPORATION, TRADE PRESS RELEASE, 26 JUNE 2025 AT 10:00 AM (EEST) Kalmar launches Inspector – a new digital application to streamline daily equipment inspections Kalmar has announced the launch of Inspector, a digital inspection application to streamline routine inspections of material-handling equipment. Inspector, part of the MyKalmar ecosystem, makes equipment inspections more efficient and allows inspection data to be stored centrally for analysis and reporting purposes. The application is available as both a standalone mobile app and as an optional module for customers with a valid MyKalmar INSIGHT subscription. Timely, regular inspections of material handling equipment are critical to ensuring safety, optimal performance and compliance with company health and safety practices and relevant local regulations. With Inspector, users can document inspections accurately, store data digitally and more easily identify and record maintenance needs. Users can complete a checklist of customisable inspection questions, add notes and attach images and video and audio clips. Data is saved centrally and a summary can be shared with relevant personnel such as fleet managers. For example, the checklist can include prompts to inspect the oil level and looking for signs of oil leaks, examining the condition of the tyres and checking tyre pressures. The standalone Inspector is easy to use on any equipment (Kalmar or third-party) as it requires no connectivity or hardware installation. Alina Reinhold, Director, Digital Services, Kalmar: 'Inspector provides users with a fully customisable mobile application that makes the process of performing inspections, recording results and sharing inspection-related data faster, easier and more reliable. Furthermore, with full visibility over inspection-related data, fleet managers can improve maintenance planning and execution, positively impacting overall fleet reliability.' The ordered machines can efficiently handle two containers each at the same time in their depot operations. The order was booked in Kalmar's Q2 2025 order intake, with delivery expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Depot Management Finland Oy, which recently expanded through the acquisition of a local container services provider, is actively reorganising its operations to enhance efficiency across its growing network. Container-Depot Ltd, a part of the same group and a long-standing operator at Vuosaari port in Helsinki, will utilise the new Kalmar machines to handle increasing container traffic at the site. The ordered machines are designed for efficient and safe empty container handling and will be equipped with a new type of spreader, which brings notable safety and performance enhancements. The innovative twin twistlock solution enables the flexible handling of tank containers and standard containers in 20ft, 40ft, 45ft and 53ft sizes without speed reduction. The spreader's design featuring extendable top twistlocks and the absence of side clamps supports tight stacking and allows for the safe lifting of misaligned containers by correcting deviations of up to +/- 55 mm. Teemu Heikkala, Finance Manager, Depot Management Finland Oy: 'Building on our recent acquisition and our commitment to invest in the Vuosaari port and terminal operations, this order plays an important role in further optimizing our operations and enhancing efficiency. Kalmar introduces Automation as a Service – a model focused on adding long-term value for customers

KALMAR CORPORATION, TRADE PRESS RELEASE, 17 JUNE 2025 AT 10:00 AM (EEST) Kalmar introduces Automation as a Service – a model focused on adding long-term value for customers Kalmar has introduced Automation as a Service, a subscription-based model designed to ensure successful and efficient deployment of automation in marine container terminals and intermodal sites. The service focuses on accelerating time-to-value and building long-term performance-focused partnerships with automation customers. In an industry where operational efficiency and speed are paramount, the transition to automation can present challenges. Kalmar's Automation as a Service model directly addresses these challenges by contractually separating equipment delivery and automation software deployment and related optimisation services. This approach enables terminal and automation design to commence immediately through the creation of a digital twin – a virtual model of the terminal running on the same Kalmar One production software used in the terminal. This model, combined with Kalmar's decades of automation experience, allows for collaborative design and integration testing of systems well before the go-live date so that potential gaps in terms of functionality or operational requirements can be identified. This early identification and optimisation helps to ensure a high-performing automated terminal from day one. Automating a container terminal involves far more than delivering the automation solution on site. Over its lifetime, the solution will need to be continuously optimised and improved, and this work should be done in close partnership between the automation system vendor and the terminal operator. Automation as a Service ensures that the targets of Kalmar and the terminal operator are fully aligned, with jointly defined KPIs and performance-based contracting. With the correct tools and service model in place, Kalmar and the terminal operator can build a long-term partnership that delivers maximum value. Furthermore, Automation as a Service also reduces the high upfront costs related to automation investment by including automation delivery and related licenses as part of the service subscription agreement, hence shifting part of the capex to opex. Juuso Kanner, Vice President, Automation Business Line, Kalmar: 'Automation as a Service is about delivering long-term customer value throughout their entire automation journey. Shifting the focus away from short-term milestones towards accelerated time-to-value and continuous improvement throughout the terminal lifetime means we are better placed to act as a true partner for our customers, helping them to realise the full value of their investments.'
