Turun Anwar rally shows opposition lacks ideas, says Kamil Munim

KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming 'Turun Anwar' rally reflects Perikatan Nasional's (PN) failure to present viable policy alternatives amid claims of economic mismanagement, according to Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, political secretary to the finance minister. He dismissed opposition criticisms as baseless, citing improving economic indicators. 'Growth, inflation, unemployment rates, investment volumes are being demonised because of hatred and greed,' Kamil stated in a post on X. He argued that PN's focus on protests rather than policy proposals highlights their political shortcomings. Kamil noted that while the government works on national development, the opposition has yet to propose a credible prime ministerial candidate. 'This is clear evidence of how they have failed to argue and propose alternatives to the various good policies that we have translated,' he said. Despite the criticism, Kamil affirmed the government's commitment to peaceful assembly, stating that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has ensured no intimidation by authorities. However, he questioned the rally's purpose, saying, 'Demonstrating just to hate Anwar Ibrahim physically shows how weak, shallow and inept their politics are.' - Bernama

What Happens If India & Pakistan Reach WCL Final? PAK Champions Owner Reveals

Last Updated: Pakistan Champions owner Kamil Khan has confirmed that the WCL tournament will proceed as scheduled despite the India-Pakistan clash cancellation. Pakistan Champions owner Kamil Khan has said that if his team and India reach the finals of the World Championship of Legends, a decision will be made then, with no other changes in the current schedule of the tournament, after a classic India-Pakistan clash in the league stage was cancelled. Fans on social media voiced their displeasure with former India players taking part in a game with Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. The match was slated to be played on Sunday, July 20, at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After the match was cancelled, there was no clarity regarding whether Pakistan would continue to take part in WCL. Kamil gave an insight into what to expect once the tournament moves to the knockouts. 'All the remaining matches are taking place. The tournament is going on as per schedule and there are no changes," Kamil was quoted as saying by Geo News. 'As for the semifinals and final, we're currently saying that if we make it to the semifinals, there will be four teams and we will avoid matches between the two teams," Kamil added. The team owner stayed away from giving more clarity when pressed about what would happen if India and Pakistan qualify for the final. 'If we reach the final, then the decisions regarding that will be made then," Kamil said. 'And as for this match, the two points will be awarded to us and we deserve those points as per the rules," Kamil added. Multiple former Indian cricketers, including Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf and Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan, withdrew from the game against Pakistan. Given the number of withdrawals and public outrage, the organisers had to call the game off. The second edition of the England and Wales Cricket Board tournament, which is co-owned by Bollywood star Ajay Devgn, began on July 18 at Edgbaston in Birmingham and is scheduled for an August 2 final. The World Championship of Legends organisers shared a statement on their X account, detailing the decision to cancel and said that their intention while holding the game was to recreate some 'happy memories." view comments First Published: July 21, 2025, 09:04 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Muhyiddin's claim on judiciary's independence baseless - PM's pol-sec

Any claim that judicial independence is compromised as long as the Prime Minister faces personal legal issues must be proven and backed by concrete facts, not made through baseless accusations. 10 Jul 2025 03:39pm Muhyiddin. Bernama FILE PIX KUALA LUMPUR - The allegation by Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is "tearing down the judiciary to remain in power' is unfounded, said Angkatan Muda Keadilan (PKR Youth) chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim. Kamil, who is also the Political Secretary to the Finance Minister, said any claim that judicial independence is compromised as long as the Prime Minister faces personal legal issues must be proven and backed by concrete facts, not made through baseless accusations. He said the very fact that a Prime Minister or any high-ranking individual can be subjected to civil legal proceedings is actually a strong indicator of the judiciary's independence. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Bernama FILE PIX "It shows that no one is above the law and that the principle of the rule of law is upheld. A truly independent judiciary allows the legal process to proceed without executive interference, regardless of who is involved,' he said in a statement today. Commenting on Anwar's application to refer eight constitutional questions to the Federal Court regarding the civil suit filed by Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, Kamil stressed that every individual has the legal right to seek clarification or interpretation of the Constitution. He described Muhyiddin's interpretation as shallow and lacking a basic understanding of the country's legal system. "A veteran lawmaker like him should not be making such statements. To date, there has not been a single shred of evidence showing that the Prime Minister has interfered in or violated any legal provision relating to judicial administration. "This is a malicious narrative irresponsibly crafted, serving as political rhetoric aimed at undermining public confidence and triggering instability,' he said. He added that differing views or opinions from backbenchers should not be construed as a loss of confidence in the Prime Minister, but rather as proof of the strength of the Madani government. Throughout the administration of the Madani government, he noted, many government MPs have openly expressed their views and opinions on government policies and approaches across various issues. "That is a clear testament to a strong government that upholds and celebrates differing opinions in a country that genuinely practices democracy-unlike Muhyiddin, who once chose to shut down Parliament because he was afraid of facing opposition MPs. "Linking Anwar's popularity with policies such as the expansion of the SST (Sales and Services Tax) or electricity tariff hikes to allegations of tightening his grip on institutions is far off the mark,' he said. Such policies, Kamil explained, were government decisions based on economic considerations and the nation's fiscal situation, and do not in any way constitute interference in national institutions. Yesterday, Muhyiddin had, in a Facebook post, claimed that the judiciary cannot be truly independent as long as the individual holding the office of Prime Minister has personal issues involving the institution. - BERNAMA

PKR leader dismisses Muhyiddin's claim of judicial meddling

KUALA LUMPUR: A PKR leader has refuted Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's claim that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had interfered in the appointment of top judges. Kamil Munim, the PKR Youth chief, said there was no evidence that Anwar had interfered in the judiciary and that such claims were malicious. "The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman's statement insinuating that judicial independence was at risk as long as the prime minister has personal legal issues, and that he is tearing apart institutions to remain in power, is baseless," Kamil said in a statement. Kamil, who is also the finance minister's political secretary, added that the claims were aimed at undermining public trust and inciting instability. He added that the fact that a prime minister or any high-ranking individual faces civil legal proceedings is a strong indicator of judicial independence. "It shows that no one is immune under the law and that the principle of the rule of law is upheld." Kamil also said statements by government backbenchers on the matter cannot be interpreted as a loss of confidence in the prime minister, as implied by Muhyiddin. He said the government acknowledged and welcomed differences in opinion, as was the case with various views on government policies and issues. "This is a far cry from Muhyiddin, who chose to shut down Parliament once." Earlier today, Istana Negara warned against politicising the appointment of superior court judges. It said the appointment of top judges must be in line with the Federal Constitution. Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the government would fill the vacancies for the posts of Chief Justice and President of the Court of Appeal in compliance with the Constitution.

(Photo credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images) Adrian Houser allowed one run over seven innings to help the Chicago White Sox end the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 10-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory in the finale of a three-game series Wednesday afternoon. Houser (5-2) scattered seven hits, struck out two and walked two. Grant Taylor pitched a scoreless eighth and Jordan Leasure closed the ninth for his second save in his fifth opportunity this season. Edgar Quero doubled twice, drove in a run and scored for the White Sox, who ended a three-game skid. Bo Bichette went 3-for-3 and Nathan Lukes and Will Wagner each had two singles for the Blue Jays, who were unable to tie the franchise record 11-game winning streak. Blue Jays starter Eric Lauer (4-2) allowed two runs and four hits in four innings. He struck out seven and walked one. The left-hander came into the outing 3-0 with a 2.59 ERA over his previous seven outings. The Blue Jays began the second inning with a double to center by Wagner, who moved to third on a wild pitch as Myles Straw walked. Tyler Heineman then laid down a squeeze bunt up the first-base line to score Wagner for a 1-0 lead. Luis Robert Jr. made a sliding catch in center to end the top of the fourth and Austin Slater singled to left to start the bottom half of the inning for the White Sox. Quero doubled to left one out later to score Slater for a 1-1 tie. Lenyn Sosa then reached for a low slider and lined it into left for an RBI single and a 2-1 lead. Houser started the seventh by allowing a leadoff single to Wagner before getting through the inning. The Blue Jays missed several opportunities to score. Lukes and Bichette led off the first with singles for Toronto, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit into a 6-4-3 double play and Addison Barger grounded out to first. After Lukes and Bichette started the sixth with a single and a walk before Guerrero grounded to short to put runners on the corners. Barger then grounded to first baseman Tim Elko, who touched his bag and then threw to second for the tag on Guerrero and an inning-ending double play.
