Malaysia ranks 13th in 2025 global peace index, says Saifuddin
TAWAU: Malaysia has secured the 13th spot in the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI), according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. While the country's overall score remained unchanged, its ranking slipped from 10th in 2024 due to improvements by other nations. Saifuddin noted that Malaysia was placed 19th in 2023, showing progress over time. He explained that Scandinavian countries advanced in peacekeeping expenditure and other indicators, pushing them ahead despite Malaysia's stable performance. 'When compared with 165 countries, we are on the right track,' he said during the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) Kampung Angkat MADANI launch in Kampung Inderasabah. Official data from the GPI website confirmed Malaysia's score of 1.469, ranking it 13th out of 163 nations. To further improve, Saifuddin highlighted tourism as a key focus. The Home Ministry has engaged foreign diplomats through briefings and security reviews, particularly targeting high-potential markets like the US and Europe. 'By showcasing Sabah's east coast to diplomats, we aim to boost tourist confidence and arrivals,' he said, adding that these efforts have already yielded positive results. - Bernama

Home Ministry to improve IC application process

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said he respected the EAIC's findings and stressed that the Home Ministry and its agencies prioritise public convenience. 'I should also mention that there have been cases where applications from citizens were either unsuccessful or rejected outright due to forged documents,' he added. 'For example, there have been cases involving maternity clinics where the birth did not actually take place, but the facilities were used to issue birth certificates,' he told reporters after officiating the ministry's Kampung Angkat MADANI (MADANI adopted village initiative) launching ceremony at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Pangkalan Abai here today. Saifuddin Nasution said the NRD has a clear, efficient, and uncompromising policy when it comes to verifying the authenticity of documents. However, he said he is open to improving the process if there are areas that can be enhanced. 'When citizens in need of services are affected by delays, it is the responsibility of the NRD to improve,' he said. Yesterday, the media reported that the EAIC revealed that there was an unreasonable delay by an investigating officer of the Sabah NRD in handling a child's new identity card application.-Bernama

No Malaysians Recruited Into Bangladeshi-Linked Militant Network
KUALA BERANG, June 29 (Bernama) -- Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has confirmed that no Malaysians were recruited into a foreign militant network linked to Bangladeshi nationals, which was recently uncovered by authorities. He said investigations by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Special Branch revealed that the group, which aimed to spread extremist ideology rooted in Islamic State (IS) beliefs, involved only Bangladeshi nationals. 'Their activities were focused on violent extremism with the objective of toppling the government in their country of origin (Bangladesh),' he said. Saifuddin was speaking to reporters after launching the Kampung Angkat MADANI and Sekolah Angkat MADANI programmes under the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) 2025 initiative at the Hulu Terengganu District Council Hall here. 'It is important to inform the public that our security forces are on high alert. If such activities are not addressed firmly, they could pose a serious threat to national security,' he added. Saifuddin had earlier revealed that police dismantled the foreign militant network with the arrest of 36 Bangladeshi nationals suspected of direct involvement in the radical movement. The arrests were made in a three-phase security operation in Selangor and Johor starting April 24. In another development, Saifuddin said the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) will soon undergo restructuring to enhance its effectiveness, with the Royal Malaysia Police taking the lead, supported by other key agencies. 'Previously, four agencies, the police, Bank Negara, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and others, shared oversight of the NSRC which led to certain operational shortcomings. 'Under the new structure, the police will directly receive scam reports, record the necessary details, and notify the relevant banks immediately to freeze the victim's account. Efforts to recover stolen funds will follow promptly,' he said.

Selection Of Kampung Angkat Madani Follows ICU JPM Guidelines
KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has assured that the selection of Kampung Parit Seberang in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, as the force's adopted village under the Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain follows the prescribed guidelines. PDRM Corporate Communications Unit spokesperson stated that the selection also complied with procedures set by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM). The spokesperson told Bernama that under the guidelines of the Satu Pemimpin Satu Kampung (One Leader One Village) (Santuni MADANI) initiative, approved in the Cabinet meeting on May 8, 2024, each leader was required to submit the name of their choice of village to the ICU JPM within two weeks. 'These leaders include members of the Cabinet, deputy ministers, ministry secretaries-general, heads of federal departments or agencies, as well as chairpersons and chief executive officers of statutory bodies, government-linked companies, and government-linked investment companies at the federal level. 'They must choose their hometowns or the place where they were raised. If they cannot meet this criterion, they may select any other suitable village,' said the spokesperson. The spokesperson elaborated that Santuni MADANI is an approach aimed at enhancing the potential of villages and the capacity of their communities through direct monitoring and engagement, identifying socioeconomic issues and the needs of residents. The spokesperson added that Razarudin had previously selected Kampung Jenal, Dabong in Kelantan, as PDRM's first adopted village, with an allocated expenditure of RM2 million, and officiated the launch on Aug 27 last year. 'The impact of the community programmes organised by PDRM has helped improve the quality of life for residents while also supporting the government's efforts in line with the force's slogan 'Ready to Serve' and the Police Day theme 'The Police and the Community Are Inseparable,'' said the spokesperson. A senior member of a political party's leadership council had accused Razarudin's decision to choose his mother's village as PDRM's adopted village under the Kampung Angkat MADANI programme of being an act of cronyism.
