MLC remembers contributions of Hadapada Appanna
Mysuru: JD(S) MLC CN Manjegowda on Tuesday remembered the contributions of 12th century Vachanakara Hadapada Appanna for his philosophical insights. He was speaking after inaugurating the Hadapada Appanna Jayanthi celebrations organised by the department of Kannada and culture at Kirurangamandir in the city. He said that Hadapada Appanna was also a close associate of social reformer Basavanna and took forward his Sharana movement to build a discrimination-free society. Hadapada Appanna also contributed to the 12th century social revolution. He served as general secretary of Anubhava Mantapa, the religious parliament formed by Basavanna, promoting open debate represented by prominent Sharanas involved in the Sharana and Vachanakara movement. Hadapada Appanna's wife, Lingamma, also wrote 250 vachanas. Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa, who also spoke on the occasion, urged the most backward communities to give importance to education to come to the mainstream of society. Writer Kiran Sidlehalli wanted the govt to initiate economic empowerment to provide reservation for microscopic most backward communities for their upliftment. Joint director of Kannada and culture VM Mallikarjunaswamy, assistant director MD Sudarshan, and Mysuru Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Maddikere Gopal were present.

Halakatti played big role in conserving Vachana literature: MLC
Mysuru: JD(S) MLC CN Manjegowda on Wednesday praised the contributions of FG Halakatti for the conservation, preservation, and promotion of Vachana literature, which has transformed the lives of millions of people across the country. He spoke after inaugurating Vachana Literature Conservation Day, organised in memory of Halakatti at a function jointly organised by the district administration and the department of Kannada and culture, held at Kirurangamandir here. He also highlighted the contributions of Halakatti, who was an advocate by profession in the North Karnataka region. Halakatti not only collected the Vachanas but also printed and published them, providing wide publicity to spread Vachanas among the masses. People knew only about 50 vachanakaras, but Halakatti, through sheer hard work, determination, and dedication, collected the vachanas written by more than 250 vachanakaras, Sharanas of the 12th century. He also helped in their (vachana) conservation and preservation. Halakatti played a key role in translating various Vachanas into English language. He advised students to imbibe the qualities of Halakatti and strive for the promotion of Vachana literature. Additional deputy commissioner P Shivaraju also remembered the contributions of Halakatti for the promotion of Vachana literature outside the state and his sacrifice for its promotion. JSS Mahavidyapeetha Publications wing director Morabada Mallikarjuna also recalled Halakatti's contributions in organising Vachana recitals in public music events and translating Vachanas into English. He was also instrumental in translating them into several other Indian languages. Joint director of Kannada and culture VM Mallikarjunaswamy and assistant director MD Sudarshan were present.

Kempegowda reason B'luru enjoys global recognition: Minister
Mysuru/Mandya: Nadaprabhu Kempegowda is the reason Bengaluru enjoys global recognition today, said agriculture minister and Mandya district minister N Cheluvarayaswamy. He was speaking at the inauguration of the 516th Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations held at Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kalamandira in Mandya. The event was jointly organised by the district administration and the department of Kannada and culture. Cheluvarayaswamy emphasised that Kempegowda, with remarkable foresight, constructed lakes and temples in Bengaluru over 500 years ago. "His vision laid the foundation for the development of not just Bengaluru but the entire Old Mysuru region," he stated, while also crediting Mysuru Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar for his significant contributions. Highlighting the historical significance of the moment, the minister said, "In the last 100 years, the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir has never recorded such high-water levels in the month of June." The reservoir, he said, is currently supplying water to Mandya, Bengaluru, and the wider Old Mysuru region. Rangayana to host Greeshma Rangotsava from June 29
Mysuru: City-based theatre repertory Rangayana is hosting a month-long theatre festival from Sunday. All the plays will be staged at Bhoomigeetha, the closed auditorium at Rangayana, from 6.30 pm onwards. Speaking to reporters, Rangayana director Satish Tiptur said the annual festival will commemorate senior theatre activist C G Krishnaswamy, popularly known as CGK in theatre circles. The festival, Greeshma Rangotsava, is organised to provide a platform and to promote amateur theatre troupes, which play a crucial role in keeping the theatre movement alive in the state. As part of the festival, seven plays will be staged every weekend by various theatre troupes, Tiptur said. The festival will be inaugurated by noted theatre personality and former Rangayana director H Janardhan. He will be joined by Ranga Samaj member H S Suresh Babu, joint director of Kannada and culture V N Mallikarjunaswamy, and assistant director M D Sudarshan. The director said the repertory will provide all necessary facilities to the artists during their stay in the city. Ranga Samaj member H S Sureshbabu and Greeshma Rangotsav convener Arsikere Yogananda were also present at the media briefing. War memorial construction in Mysuru gains momentum
1 2 3 Mysuru: The construction of the war memorial at the Old Deputy Commissioner 's office garden in Mysuru, which was progressing slowly, has now gained momentum. The public works department, executing the project under the supervision of the department of Kannada and culture and the Sainik welfare and rehabilitation department, is expediting the final phase of on July 29, 2022, the project aims to commemorate the sacrifices of soldiers. The war memorial will honour the contributions of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, and paramilitary black granite slabs donated by donors from Chamarajanagar, Hassan, and several other places were placed on the base of the memorial for its construction. After the initial phase of sculpting and polishing of the monument, slabs have been assembled on the memorial platform. The work on the installation of a war memorial monument, built in a square shape of 33m height, was also completed using a crane three days department used black granites donated by Patel Puttamadaiah of Amachavadi village of Chamarajanagar for the preparation of a 33-metre war memorial tower of cubic shape. This granite costs around Rs 1 crore. The same black granite stones from Chamarajanagar were also used by the United States of America for the construction of a memorial at the World Trade from Puttamadaiah, another two donors, Srinath of Mysuru, donated 200 tonnes of stones, and Hassan-based Green Stones also donated granite slabs worth Rs 25 lakh for the construction of this war memorial project. Once all the polishing work of the monument is completed after the installation, this memorial will be further enhanced with the addition of green slabs around the base, providing a traditional touch. Inscriptions in gold colour will be added to provide a distinctive look to the war memorial monument is designed in a square shape. A six-foot Ashoka Emblem with lions on all four sides will also be carved and placed above the 33m war memorial monument, on the lines of the National Museum, Delhi. This six-foot Ashoka emblem will be sculpted and carved by noted sculptor Arun Yogiraj of Mysuru.
