Sonakshi Sinha on why Nikita Roy's release got pushed ahead

Sonakshi Sinha in Nikita Roy Sonakshi Sinha 's film Nikita Roy was originally slated to hit theatres yesterday, but the release has been postponed. The decision was made to steer clear of a crowded release week that included star-studded films, F1: The Movie, Kannappa and Maa. The announcement was shared by the filmmakers and Sonakshi on Instagram. In a quick chat about the decision to push the film ahead and how she thinks it's the right way to go, Sonakshi says, 'It was in the interest of the film. We want a wider audience for our film.' 'Films getting pushed is nothing new and I don't think it is a big deal' The actress also pointed out that such changes aren't uncommon in the industry. 'Humse pehle bhi kayi filmien aise push hui hai. Ajay sir's (Devgn) film Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha too, was pushed to avoid a clash with Kalki 2898 AD. So, films getting pushed is nothing new and I don't think it is a big deal.' 'I am going to watch Maa' One of the films that would have clashed with Nikita Roy had it released this week, is Maa headlined by Kajol . Talking about how excited she is about watching it this week, she says, 'Kajol is someone I've looked up to and admired. She's a fantastic actress and a lovely person. It was a coincidence that both our films are in the supernatural space. I am going to watch it. I really enjoyed the trailer and she's looking phenomenal in the film.'

Kannappa box office collection day 1: Vishnu Manchu scores the biggest opening of his career thanks to Prabhas, Akshay Kumar; film earns Rs 9 crore

The much-anticipated mythological devotional film Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, has finally hit theatres, and it's off to an impressive start at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated Rs 9 crore across all languages in India on its opening day. It also marks the highest-ever opening for a Vishnu Manchu film. Kannappa recorded an overall Telugu occupancy of 55.89% on Friday. Morning shows began on a promising note with 50.55% occupancy, which steadily increased throughout the day, rising to 52.81% for evening shows and peaking at 69.87% during night shows. Hyderabad and Bengaluru reported the highest number of screenings, as well as the highest occupancy rates for the film. Also Read | Kannappa movie review: Vishnu Manchu's ambition cannot fully save this tediously long saga In the Tamil market, the film registered a 6.45% occupancy rate on Friday, with Chennai leading in both show count and viewer turnout. Meanwhile, in the Hindi belt, Delhi topped the charts in terms of both the number of shows and audience presence, contributing to an overall Hindi occupancy of 14.56%. The Kannada and Malayalam versions saw occupancy rates of 13.81% and 7.20%, respectively. This strong debut is particularly notable when compared to Vishnu Manchu's previous release Ginna, which managed just Rs 0.2 crore on its opening day and went on to become a box office failure. The mythological epic also features a star-studded cast, including Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal, an added draw for the masses. Kannappa is based on the tale of devotion and sacrifice, weaving mythology, emotion, and stunning visuals into a narrative that resonates deeply with devotees of Lord Shiva and fans of grand-scale storytelling. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 200 crore, Kannappa is shaping up to be a significant box office contender in the mythological genre. However, it has received fairly negative reviews from the critics. It remains to be seen how much Kannappa will earn over its first weekend, amid growing competition from older releases like Sitaare Zameen Par, which is still going strong, and new releases like Brad Pitt's F1: The Movie.

Of these, only Sarath Kumar and Mohan Babu leave a lasting impression. Vishnu Manchu finds his footing in the emotional climax, but by then, much of the momentum is already lost. Ultimately, Kannappa had a moving legend to build upon — a tale of unwavering faith and sacrifice. But what it needed was not more star power or visual gloss, but storytelling rooted in emotional clarity and cultural texture. In striving for grandeur, it forgets to tell the story that matters.'

Kannappa box office Day 1: Vishnu Manchu's film outperforms Maa, F1 in India

Telugu devotional film, 'Kannappa', opened on a solid note at the domestic box office upon its release on June 27. The film has surpassed the Day 1 collection of Kajol's horror drama 'Maa', and Brad Pitt's 'F1' at the box office in India. 'Kannappa' is a film based on the legend of Kannappa, a staunch devotee of Lord to the tracking website, Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 9 crore nett at the domestic box office. While this isn't a huge number to start the theatrical run with, the film has been clocking in excellent occupancy in theatres. 'Kannappa' is expected to see an incline in numbers during the 'Maa' minted Rs 4.50 crore, half of what 'Kannappa' did on its first day at the box office. Brad Pitt's much-anticipated 'F1' collected Rs 5.25 crore in India. India Today reviewer, Sanjay Ponnappa, rated the film 2.5 out 5 stars and wrote, "Kannappa falters when it comes to direction, screenplay, and execution. Director Mukesh Kumar Singh, known for several mythological TV serials, brings the same melodramatic and slightly outdated touch to the film. The story and screenplay, written by Vishnu Manchu himself, add a fictional arc to the devotional tale we all know. Although the arc has interesting ideas, it suffers from poor execution in both writing and direction."Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, 'Kannappa' features an ensemble cast including Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggawarlal and Prabhas in cameo roles. The supporting roles include Mohan Babu, Sarathkumar, Brahmanandam, Brahmaji, Madhoo, Mukesh Rishi and Raghu Babu.'Kannappa' is jointly produced by AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory.- EndsMust Watch
