Free Movies You Can Stream This July on Tubi, Pluto TV and More
If you've grown tired of relentless price hikes from your favorite streaming platforms, it's nice to know that free TV services like Tubi, Kanopy and Pluto TV can be counted on for all kinds of great shows and movies. Every month, these platforms drop new movies and classic films (and many of them carry great TV shows, too). So if you're looking for something fun and cheap, there's no shortage of great stuff to watch. This July, Tubi's got some new original movies that look like solid summer fun. First is its spin on the killer shark genre, Great White Waters, which arrives on July 4. You can also catch the horror film Get Off My Lawn about a neighborhood stalker who will stop at nothing in his quest for home ownership. Tubi has Final Destination (and four of its sequels), too -- the perfect movie marathon to binge if you still plan to see Final Destination Bloodlines soon. On Fawesome, why not check out the 1988 version of The Naked Gun -- which arrives this month -- before you catch the remake with Liam Neeson in theaters later this summer? Leslie Nielsen gives a comedy masterclass with his performance as the absurd and oblivious Lieutenant Frank Drebin. And if you like dramatic classics, try one of Kanopy's July releases like Lawrence of Arabia or The Bridge on the River Kwai. All the films listed here arrive on July 1, unless otherwise noted. Here's a look at some of the biggest and most interesting titles arriving on streaming -- for free -- in July. Tubi Tubi Great White Waters (July 4) Tubi's new original Great White Waters combines the most terrifying aspect of Jaws -- a killer shark looming, looking for its next prey -- with a crime thriller. When millions of dollars worth of cocaine goes missing and is eventually located under the ocean off the coast of Florida, a team is hired to retrieve it for their nefarious boss. The op goes awry when it turns out that a great white shark is guarding the drugs and has no problem chowing down on anyone who dares to swim down to get them. Tubi Get Off My Lawn (July 11) It's about time someone came up with a film called Get Off My Lawn, isn't it? In this new Tubi horror, a young couple (Tahj Mowry and Camila Banus) who have just bought their first house in a well-to-do neighborhood are terrorized by a local teenager (Jonah Hwang) who claims that the home, which belonged to his grandfather, should rightfully be his. Turns out, there aren't enough gates in this gated community to keep them safe from his deranged and violent ways. Other titles arriving in July: TKO (July 18) Jurassic World Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Rye Lane Barbershop Juice Final Destination Amadeus Pulp Fiction Titanic Robocop Minority Report Fawesome Donnie Darko The Pianist Blue Valentine Serpico In Secret Kiss The Girls Point Break Jack Reacher The Naked Gun Kanopy Zola (July 4) The Bridge on the River Kwai (July 4) Lawrence of Arabia (July 11) The Big Chill (July 11) Bram Stoker's Dracula (July 18) Starve Acre (July 18) Ferris Bueller's Day Off (July 25) The Return (July 25) Roku Channel Happy Gilmore Shrek Liar, Liar Waterworld Atomic Blonde Gosford Park Spy Kids Hard Kill Loving Pablo Pluto TV

My Favorite Movie Is Spicy and Mesmerizing -- And You Can Stream It for Free Right Now
There is only one movie that I wish I could erase from my memory simply to have the pleasure of watching it again for the first time. That film is Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Céline Sciamma's 2019 masterpiece of forbidden love, tension, drama and enough historical period reverie to make my costume-loving heart soar. I can count on one hand the number of times I've finished watching a film for the first time and immediately turned around to rewatch it again, and this film makes the cut. Best of yet, it streams for free on Kanopy, so seriously, what are you waiting for? Ok, fine. If you need a little more convincing, Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a visually stunning, relevant and surprisingly modern film that absolutely brims with slow-burn passion. And that's before you throw in the breathtaking cinematography. From the moment I saw the movie as an undergraduate film student at UNC Chapel Hill, I've racked up at least a dozen viewings. And I'm hooked. The best option, in my not-so-humble opinion, is to watch free on Kanopy, but it's also available on HBO Max -- one of CNET's picks for best streaming service -- with a paid subscription or available to rent on Prime Video, but the easiest option is to watch free right now on Kanopy with your (also free) public library login or university ID credentials. Almost every scene in Portrait of a Lady on Fire looks like a masterpiece painting. Lilies Films/Hold-Up Films/Arte France Cinéma Set in 1770 Brittany, in northern France, Portrait of a Lady on Fire tells the story of Marianne, a middle-class painter commissioned by a countess to paint the wedding portrait of her daughter, Héloïse, a young woman forced to leave the convent to enter an arranged marriage with a Milanese nobleman. Opposing the marriage, Héloïse refuses to sit for any portrait, which would guarantee her marriage, so Marianne must produce the portrait in secret. Having already exhausted other painters, the Countess instructs Marianne to act as Héloïse's companion, accompanying her day to day while silently memorizing her features to paint in secret. Through these meetings, the two women form a friendship and eventually a romance that transcends boundaries of class and sexuality. Tragically, Marianne is forced to create the one object that will ensure the end of her blossoming relationship with Héloïse. Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel deliver engrossing and elegant performances. Lilies Films/Hold-Up Films/Arte France Cinéma Starring Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel, accompanied by an almost entirely female cast, the film is a powerfully acted LGBTQ+ romance that studies power, memory, passion and desire through the eyes of women. Despite its 18th century setting, the film unflinchingly examines modern themes of gender, class, sexuality and reproductive rights -- all of which suffocate under a repressive patriarchal society, yet flourish when those strict confines are removed. Noted as a feminist film that banishes the male gaze, reinterprets the classic Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, and subverts expectations of the master/muse relationship, Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a rare feminist triumph. With its nuanced themes, exquisite cinematography and emotionally resonant performances, it's a beautifully moving film and you're sure to have a profound and unforgettable cinematic experience. Or, if you're like me, you'll just sob in front of a theater full of strangers and not even care. Either way, you're in for a treat. (And while you're at it, I will probably be watching it for the umpteenth time.) Portrait of a Lady on Fire won the Queer Palm at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. Lilies Films/Hold-Up Films/Arte France Cinéma Portrait of a Lady on Fire was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. The film lost that top honor to Bong Joon-ho's Parasite, but won the Queer Palm, becoming the first film directed by a woman to win the award. Sciamma also won the award for Best Screenplay at Cannes in 2019. Portrait of a Lady on Fire is just one of our CNET experts' favorite movies that's available to stream now. You should also explore our full rundown of the best movies on Max, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Plus, stream our favorite horror double feature on Netflix. More movie recommendations:

OverDrive and Clarivate to Preview Roadmap of Deep Integration for Libby, Kanopy, and Sora with Vega Discover
Technical collaboration will streamline workflows, saving library staff time, enhancing collection development, and supporting data-driven decision-making. CLEVELAND, June 24, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As libraries navigate ongoing budget and staff challenges, OverDrive and Innovative, part of Clarivate, will preview a joint strategy for library leaders at the ALA Annual Conference (June 26 – 30, Booth #1629). The goal of these new developments will leverage each company's market leading technologies and solutions for how readers and library staff interact with the library's vast catalog of materials, both in print and digital formats. These future innovations are expected to strengthen libraries' programming, optimize use of physical spaces and resources, and increase the overall value of library services for their communities. By joining forces to deliver a bold new integration roadmap—centered on Libby, Kanopy, and Vega LX—this integration will streamline workflows, reduce costs, and enhance engagement. OverDrive and Innovative from Clarivate will be hosting a series of library partner meetings to seek input and prioritization for deeper integrations with the OverDrive Advisory Group and at the upcoming Digipalooza 2025 partner roundtable meetings. 'As libraries face new challenges, this relationship delivers a seamless integration that streamlines staff workflows and enhances the patron experience across both digital and physical collections. By combining the strengths of Innovative from Clarivate and OverDrive, we empower libraries to better engage their communities and make data-driven decisions. We look forward to continue working closely with our library partners to shape the future of library services together,' says Yariv Kursh, Senior Vice President and GM at Clarivate. 'It's not just about syncing products; it's about building a better future for libraries based on all users of library content and services. We're developing next-level online and mobile experiences designed to attract new users and keep patrons engaged, encouraging them to continue returning to the library, online or in-person at their central or branch libraries,' says Claudia Weissman, VP of Global Libraries & Education. 'We're creating a more seamless experience regardless of interests, language, or preferences for accessing and enjoying the content and programs libraries offer. New and improved data reports and insights will combine the transactional data sets from the ILS and all OverDrive content usage.' Benefits to the Library and all Users Smarter Discovery: Vega LX libraries will benefit from deep linking to all OverDrive-supplied content including Libby eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, comics and digital media, as well as Kanopy movies, documentaries and TV shows. This integration will support all libraries using Vega LX regardless of the underlying ILS including Polaris, Symphony, and Sierra. Better Engagement: Deep integration with Vega Program will allow Libby and Kanopy users to discover and connect with their local libraries through a wide range of events and programs. These opportunities will be surfaced within Libby bookshelves or made discoverable in Kanopy when patrons view related content. Clearer Insights: A new analytics dashboard will consolidate insights from Vega Reports and OverDrive Marketplace, giving staff a clearer understanding of what's working and where to focus next. OverDrive and Clarivate are committed to working openly with library partners around the world. More updates will be shared later this year, with new tools and benefits rolling out in 2026. This is a non-exclusive initiative—new tools will be available to all approved OverDrive partners. To help libraries drive acquisition of new patrons, OverDrive will waive all Instant Digital Card (IDC) fees now through the end of the year to help libraries grow their reach. This initiative builds on the success of the IDC program, which has already connected 2.5 million U.S. users to their local public libraries. Free Movies You Can Stream This June on Tubi, Pluto TV and More
If you've grown tired of relentless price hikes from your favorite streaming platforms, it's nice to know that free TV services like Tubi, Kanopy and Roku Channel can be counted on for all kinds of great shows and movies. Every month, these platforms drop new movies and classic films (and many of them carry great TV shows, too), and June is no different. This month marks the arrival of some major titles; you can catch 2025 Oscar-winner Anora on Kanopy, watch Jaws on Tubi (that film celebrates its 50th anniversary this summer) or tune in to the 1988 family sci-fi adventure Mac and Me on Roku Channel. Okay, Mac and Me might not be the cultural touchstone that Jaws is, but for fans of Conan O'Brien, you'll recall it's the subject of his decades-long running gag with Paul Rudd, so it's a big deal for a very niche fan base. Pluto TV is also dropping Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, so catch the original zombie thriller before the latest film in the franchise, 28 Years Later, arrives in theaters this month. Tubi also has a couple of new original films, including the Western thriller Day of Reckoning, starring Billy Zane, Scott Adkins and Josh Roerig, and the boxing drama TKO, out on June 20. Country star Trace Adkins also appears in the film, which hits Tubi on June 13.
