Ohtani hits 29th homer, adds RBI triple to lead Dodgers over Royals 5-4

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Shohei Ohtani led off the game with his 29th home run and also hit an RBI triple, and Freddie Freeman stretched as he fell over to complete a game-ending double play as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4 Friday night for their fifth straight win. Ohtani hit his major league-leading eighth leadoff homer this season, a drive off off Noah Cameron (2-4), and Max Muncy hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer for a 3-1 lead in the second. Bobby Witt Jr.'s two-run homer against Dustin May put Kansas City ahead 4-3 in the bottom half and gave the Royals their first lead since Sunday. Ohtani tied the score in the fifth against Cameron (2-4) with his seventh triple of the season and scored on Mookie Betts' single off Steven Cruz. Kansas City loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Tanner Scott on singles by Mikael Garcia and Salvador Perez around Vinnie Pacquantino's walk. Rookie Jac Caglianone grounded to second Tommy Edman, who made a backhand flip to Betts at second, and Betts bounced his throw to Freeman. The All-Star first baseman snagged the ball as he fell to the field, giving Scott his 18th save in 23 chances. Kansas City has lost six straight overall and 11 home games in a row. Lou Trivino (3-0) got five outs as five Dodgers relievers combined for shutout relief of Dustin May, who gave up four runs, six hits and three walks in four innings. Cameron (2-4) allowed five runs, three hits and three walks in four-plus innings Perez had a run-scoring single in the first. Kyle Isbel lined an RBI double just over the outstretched glove of right fielder Teoscar Hernandez in the three-run second for the Royals, who had scored on run during a three-game series against Tampa Bay. Freeman, who won a Gold Glove in 2018, made the outstanding defensive play that ended the game. Kansas City tied its record for consecutive home losses, set from Sept. 21, 2011, to April 23, 2012, and matched from May 6 to June 4, 2013. Ohtani (0-0, 4.50 ERA) makes his third mound appearance since elbow surgery, facing RHP Seth Lugo (4-5, 2.93 ERA) on Saturday.

Dodgers and Ohtani hand Royals record-tying 11th straight home loss

Shohei Ohtani hit a leadoff homer and added a game-tying RBI triple as the Los Angeles Dodgers won their fifth straight, edging the host Kansas City Royals 5-4 on Friday night. The Royals matched a club-record 11-game home losing streak. Ohtani, who was named to the All-Star Game a day earlier, sent an enticing 1-2 changeup from Noah Cameron (2-4) into the right field fountains for his 29th homer of the year — and 12th in 28 games against the Royals in his career. However, Kansas City led 4-3 entering the fifth, when Ohtani victimized Cameron again. After Enrique Hernandez walked to open the inning, Ohtani found the right field gap for a triple that evened the contest. Steven Cruz entered and promptly gave up an RBI single to Mookie Betts — the Dodgers' fourth and final hit, but enough for their ninth win in 11 games. The Royals loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Tanner Scott (18 saves), who got rookie Jac Caglianone to ground into a first-pitch 4-6-3 game-ending double play, capped by Freddie Freeman's stellar pick at first base. Kansas City is 0-11 at home in June, equaling the team's longest such slide set in 2023. Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-run homer and Kyle Isbel doubled twice, but the Royals dropped their sixth straight overall. Down 1-0, Kansas City answered in the bottom of the first. Maikel Garcia roped a two-out double and eventually scored on Salvador Perez's single to left. The Dodgers regained the lead with their own two-out magic in the second. With a man on, Max Muncy jumped on another Cameron pitch that went over the center field wall for a 3-1 edge. The Royals made Los Angeles starter Dustin May work more in the bottom of the second. John Rave walked, stole second, went to third on Freddy Fermin's grounder and scored on Isbel's double that right fielder Teoscar Hernandez appeared to misread. Witt followed by clearing the left-center field wall to put Kansas City ahead by one. Cameron yielded just three hits, but three walks and all five runs over a career-low four-plus innings in his ninth start. May, meanwhile, lasted four, allowing those four runs and six hits. Lou Trivino (3-0) pitched 1⅔ innings for the win.

To catch up on this "beef,'' Tyreek Hill has played against the Bills 12 total times in his career - regular season and playoffs - as a member of the Chiefs and Dolphins. And it hasn't gone well. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Folks who watch Tyreek Hill and his notable behavior who aren't fans of his team often have a question that goes something like this ... Advertisement "What is that guy thinking?'' And now Buffalo Bills Mafia can form an answer ... "He's not.'' Hill, a nine-year NFL veteran who is among the fastest and most gifted players of his generation, is for some reason appearing in a video is going viral that shows him hanging out in a limousine with some YouTube personalities and going off on a NSFW rant about his rivalry with the Bills and their fans. "I don't (expletive) with the Bills," Hill said in his foul-mouthed monologue. "When I used to play in Kansas City bruh, it was always (expletive) the Bills every time we played against them. And we (expletive) them up every time. Advertisement "But in Miami it's the same thing too though, but like 10 times harder. It's (expletive) the Bills all day. All they wanna do is jump through (expletive) tables 'cause they got (expletive) CTE. Stupid (expletive) fans." Let's break this down in two ways ... One, to Bills Mafia: Here's betting you will take Tyreek's comments as compliments. Yes, you "jump through tables'' and you will likely have even more motivation to be rowdier than ever this tailgate season when Tyreek's Miami Dolphins come to town. And two, to the assertion that Hill's teams handle the Bills "every time.'' Advertisement Umm, not exactly. Hill has played against the Bills 12 total times in his career - regular season and playoffs - as a member of the Chiefs and now the Dolphins. In total, he has had 72 catches for 861 yards and three touchdowns in those meetings. That averages to about six catches, 72 yards and 0.25 touchdowns per matchup. Those numbers don't scream dominance ... but his Chiefs did have the upper hand in the playoffs during their Super Bowl reign ... slightly. In total, though, Hill is just 4-8 against the Bills in his career overall. And Hill's Dolphins have also lost the last six games they've played against the Bills from 2022-2024. Advertisement The Bills will square off with Hill and the Dolphins in Buffalo in Week 3 on Thursday Night Football and in Miami in Week 10 this season. Easy predictions? Tyreek will be an underdog again. And Bills Mafia will jump through tables again. Patrick Mahomes Disrespected By Two-Time Super Bowl Champion QB

Patrick Mahomes Disrespected By Two-Time Super Bowl Champion QB originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The run that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes finds himself on is nothing short of incredible. Mahomes already has three Super Bowl rings to his name something many great players never claim once. Advertisement But Mahomes' excellence has been no flash in the pan or strike of luck. Rather, Mahomes and the Chiefs have carried the torch from the New England Patriots as the next great NFL dynasty, appearing in the last seven AFC Championship games and winning the AFC West each of the last nine seasons. To question Mahomes greatness would simply be foolish. However, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger treaded that line on a recent episode of his podcast "Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger." "Yes, I think Patrick Mahomes is phenomenal. He's going to go down as, you know, another arguable goat. You know what I mean? There's only like one goat, but there's goats—the whole herd of goats,'' he said. "I would take Aaron (Rogers) in his prime over Patrick right now,'' he said. Advertisement The eye test certainly showcases Rodgers' brilliance from his prime years and he remains a cemented great at the quarterback position despite a whacky spiral over the last few years. Perhaps there is some success fatigue with regard to Mahomes' accomplishments as well. Regardless, Mahomes continues to make any argument against him all the more difficult with each passing season. Not even a decade into his career, Mahomes has earned a place at the table of legends with more room to add to a laundry list of accolades. The success before and amid his prime is undeniable. One could perhaps squint and see some merit to where Roethlisberger's coming from here. But it is still a difficult argument to make against Mahomes who may have even better days ahead which would be a scary sight for the rest of the league.
