Rishab Shetty narrowly escapes boat mishap at Mani Dam reservoir during Kantara Chapter 1 shoot? Makers react
Actor Rishabh Shetty's Kantara 2, aka Kantara Chapter 1 continues to make news with its one after another incident on the sets. Recent reports have surfaced claiming that actor-director Rishab Shetty and his crew narrowly escaped a major accident during the shoot. Reportedly, they were filming in the Mani Dam reservoir in Karnataka. Reportedly, the incident happened when a boat carrying Rishab and more than 30 crew people capsized in the shallow water of the reservoir. It is said that all of them including the lead actor didn't sustain any injury. Reacting to it, the makers of Kantara Chapter 1 issued a statement. Denying any fatal accident on the sets, the executive producer Adarsh told The New Indian Express, 'No one was on the boat when it tipped over, and no accidents took place.' He said that the boat which was used as a backdrop, capsized due to strong winds and rain. However, no one was near it at the time when the incident took place. Adarsh added, "The Kantara shoot is happening in Mani reservoir. We had set up a ship for background visuals. On June 14, due to wind and rain, the ship tipped over. But our team members were not around it, and the actual shooting spot was away from that location. Everyone is safe, and shooting continues as planned.' He also assured that strict safety protocols have been put in place to ensure safety. 'We obtained all necessary permissions and had safety measures like speed boats, fishermen, swimmers, scuba divers, and life jackets on standby. We didn't shoot in the water,' he added. The executive producer also said, "Our cameras were safe, and if they had sunk, we wouldn't have been able to continue shooting. The police also inspected the area and confirmed that no mishap had occurred.' Kantara Chapter 1 also stars Jayaram, Kishore, Jayasurya and Jisshu Sengupta. It is a prequel to Rishabh's 2022 National Award-winning film Kantara, hence it is titled as Kantara Chapter 1, aka Kantara 2. The film is scheduled to release in theatrical on October 2, 2025. It is produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films.

Kantara Chapter 1 boat mishap, The Indian House flooding spark safety concerns on film sets
On Sunday, during the shoot of Kantara Chapter 1, a boat carrying 30 crew members, capsized in the Mani reservoir at the Masti Katte area of Karnataka's Shivamogga district. On June 13, helium balloons caught fire on the sets of Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa's upcoming film. A day before that, a water tank burst and flooded the sets of Nikhil Siddhartha starrer The Indian House, produced by Ram Charan's production house. These incidents have raised questions about safety measures on Indian film sets. When we reached out to Suresh Shyamlal Gupta, President, All Indian Cine Workers Association, to speak about the incidents, he highlighted the issues faced by the cast and crew working on sets including the lack of safety measures. He tells us, 'The state of affairs on sets of our films is very poor. A safety officer from BMC or Nagarpalika should be visiting the sets to conduct an inspection but it doesn't happen. Additionally, there's supposed to be at least 20 fire extinguishers on sets but if you go and see there are only 5 or six for the heck of it. There should be two exits on every film set in case of an emergency but right now sets have only one way to enter and exit.' 'There are wires all over the sets. Anything can happen on sets with so many open wires but there is no precaution taken. Are they waiting for accidents to happen?' he says, emphasising, 'Every artist deserves safety.' Jai Shankar Singh, a camera attendant, further sheds light on the challenges faced during film productions, ranging from poor food quality to neglected electrical equipment. He also points out the severe health issues crew members endure due to unhygienic conditions and stressful working conditions. Jai explains, 'Big production houses often don't hire action directors for big scenes being shot because it means paying more per day. Heavy equipment isn't properly maintained, cables aren't serviced. There is no time to eat food or take breaks and it affects our health. We often have to shoot for 16-18 hours straight. There are no provisions for rain, like umbrellas or raincoats. The food quality is poor, and people fall ill all the time. No one conducts inspections on film sets; everything is ram bharose. We get only 2-3 hours of sleep, and as a result, many of us are facing serious health issues.' However, filmmakers and producers claim they do their best to avoid any mishap on the sets. Abhishek Agarwal, co-producer of The Indian House, says, 'We always ensure the safety of people on sets. Even in this case, we had made preparations of this is scene and installed water tank days before the shoot. Sometimes there are few things which are not in our hands but we ensure that we always have an ambulance, a doctor on call ready.'

The makers of Kantara Chapter 1 have now issued a formal clarification on the latest news of a boat toppling over on the sets of the film. It was previously reported that Rishab Shetty, along with 30 other crew members, were on board when the vessel capsized, and they were able to escape unhurt. However, it turns out that there was no fatal accident at play on the sets of the film in the first place. Kantara Chapter 1 producer issues clarification on alleged boat accident According to a report by The New Indian Express, the executive producer of the movie, Adarsh JA, has sought to dispel the untrue rumors. He highlighted that there was no one on the boat when it toppled over inside the Mani Dam reservoirs. He added that the water vessel capsized due to strong winds and rain, and that there was absolutely no one around it when the incident occurred; therefore, there were no casualties. Moreover, Adarsh mentioned that the boat was a part of the background and not actively part of the film's shoot. He said, 'No one was on the boat when it tipped over, and no accidents took place,' he assured. Due to strong winds and rain, the ship set used as a backdrop had capsized, but since no one was near it at the time, there were no casualties or harm to the crew.' Kantara Chapter 1 shooting not halted, confirms producer The producer went on to clarify that reports stating the film's shooting came to a halt after the accident are incorrect. He reiterated that the incident occurred far away from the actual shooting spot and thus filming continued as per schedule. Assuring the safety of every actor, crew member, and everyone who's a part of the shoot, Adarsh remarked that all necessary permissions have been taken to shoot any kind of scene in water. Moreover, he assured the availability of safety gear at the shooting spot to prevent any mishaps that might occur. He added, 'But our team members were not around it, and the actual shooting spot was away from that location. Everyone is safe, and shooting continues as planned.' Rishab Shetty remains in the lead role for the movie, much like the sequel itself, which he also wrote and directed. Kanatar Chapter 1 is slated for a theatrical release on October 2, 2025.

Rains disrupt shooting of Kantara Chapter 1 in Hosanagara
Heavy rains lashing parts of Hosanagara taluk disrupted the shooting of the movie – Kantara Chapter 1, directed by Rishab Shetty, at the backwaters of Mani dam, built across Varahi river, on Saturday. According to the production company, a part of the film set collapsed in the backwater on the day. 'We had a setting of a ship in the backdrop, and the set toppled in the high-speed winds on Saturday. However, our crew and technical team were quite far from the waterbody. Nobody was hurt. We resumed the shooting on Sunday as per the schedule,' said Adarsh, executive producer of Hombale Films. Mr. Adarsh said the production company had taken permission from the police, forest officials, Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) and the local panchayat for the shooting, and that the production team made all arrangements for the safety of the crew.
