Cops conduct checking drive in Kalyanpur slum
Kanpur: The Commissionerate police conducted a checking drive at slums in Kalyanpur area on Saturday and Sunday after receiving information about some suspected Rohingya families living there.
Additional deputy commissioner of police, West, Kapil Dev Singh, stated that confidential information was received regarding a slum area in Kalyanpur police station jurisdiction, indicating that some suspicious individuals were residing there.
"Consequently, an investigation was conducted again on Sunday. During the investigation, it came to the fore that approximately 10-12 families, of around 40-45 members, live in the slum.
They possess Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, and many also have PAN cards. Most of the documents show Assam as their permanent residence," he said. The official further said that previously, their documents were collected and sent to relevant agencies for verification.
He added, "In Sunday's investigation, copies of all the available identification documents were collected again and re-examined. Necessary legal action will be taken based on the facts obtained in the upcoming investigation/verification."
