'Kaizer Chiefs is bigger than Bafana Bafana'
Kappa South Africa's Head, Ricky Joseph, claims Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are bigger than Bafana Bafana. Amakhosi launched their new Kappa kit this week ahead of the new 2025/26 season. The club's marketing director, Jessica Motaung, said the home jersey reflected the culture Chiefs are known for. The Glamour Boys recently returned from the Netherlands for their pre-season and will wear the new kit for the first time when they face Asante Kotoko of Ghana this weekend. 'You know the truth is, right now we believe we've got the biggest team in Africa. Kaizer Chiefs is bigger than the national team, to be honest with you, we would always look at partnerships with other clubs and the national team,' Joseph said as per SABC Sport. 'We would always consider looking at it, right now we're just happy with the Kaizer Chiefs sponsorship and that's where our focus remains at this moment in time. 'If you saw my emails and phone, we get asked by teams all the time to sponsor. So, it's really just about making sure we have the right partnerships done at the right time,' Joseph continued. 'We are always open to discussing it, as I said, we need time to make the partnership work. 'And I mean, these jerseys were designed over a year ago, so everything takes time, and we wanna do it properly, should we partner with anyone else in the future,' he concluded. Drip check! Kaizer Chiefs unveil 2025/26 kit - style tips to slay it on the streets
Whether you're cheering from the stands or stepping out in style, there are countless ways to rock your Amakhosi jersey with fashion flair. Image: Supplied The 2025/26 football season is here, and with it comes one of the most exciting traditions in the sport: new kits. Leading the charge in the Betway Premiership are Kaizer Chiefs, who recently unveiled their striking new home and away jerseys in collaboration with Italian technical sponsor Kappa. More than just match-day gear, the new designs draw inspiration from African culture, creativity and identity, making them a celebration of both heritage and style. The home jersey is a powerful nod to tradition. Dominated by the club's iconic gold, it features bold black sleeve patterns and a sleek black collar. It's a design that proudly honours the team's legacy, described by the club as 'unapologetically Kaizer Chiefs'. The away jersey, on the other hand, takes a daring step into fashion-forward territory. Featuring a stylish grey and gold colourway with camouflage-style textures, it draws influence from animal hides used in traditional African shields - a subtle yet strong reference to battle-readiness and pride. South African actor and a proud Amakhosi supporter, Wiseman Mncube, was among the first to showcase the jersey to fans. Sharing a photo of himself in the new kit, accessorised with dark shades, Mncube gushed: 'Allow me to introduce our beautiful new Kaizer Chiefs jersey... ishuuuu Motauuuuuuuuuung! Kaizer Chiefs and Kappa, you outdid yourselves. It's too much!' The jerseys have also drawn praise from fans across social media. One user wrote: 'Love this, I'm definitely getting it for Saturday's game.' A second user wrote: 'I rate it 10/10. As always, @kappa_sa never disappoints.' Another wrote: 'Okay, I like it. It might be my first ever Chiefs kit that I buy in my entire existence.' While a fourth stated: 'I'm not a Kaizer Chiefs fan, but Kappa ate here. The away jersey is 🔥.' Jessica Motaung, Chiefs' marketing and commercial director, highlighted the emotional connection behind the kits: 'We returned to our roots with the home jersey, staying true to the colours we are known for. The away jersey always allows us to play around a bit … it's a symbol of fashion, art and creativity.' Fans won't have to wait long to see the kits in action. The club will debut the new look on Saturday, July 26, when they face Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Whether you're watching the match or hitting the streets, here's how to wear your Amakhosi jersey with fashion flair: Go oversized A size up is a style win. Rock an oversized jersey with baggy jeans or cargo pants. Add sneakers, and don't forget the confidence. This laid-back look channels effortless cool with a sporty edge. Crop it Cropped jerseys are trending hard, especially among Gen Z. DIY your jersey into a crop top or tie it in the back. Pair with high-waisted jeans, pleated mini skirts or bike shorts for a fashion-forward, sporty-chic moment. Accessorise Channel Mncube's look by adding shades, chains or a bucket hat. The jersey is your canvas - make it pop with personal flair. Mix it with tailored pieces For a high-fashion twist, pair your jersey with a blazer or tailored trousers. It's bold, stylish and front-row ready.

Kaizer Chiefs news: Expensive kit price and African striker
Kaizer Chiefs supporters have taken to social media to voice their frustration over the club's newly launched 2025/26 season jerseys, particularly over the steep price tag attached to the Kappa-branded kits. While some fans have praised the design, some are unhappy with what they see as pricing that is out of touch with the local market. Amakhosi officially unveiled the new home and away kits this morning, continuing its partnership with Italian sportswear brand Kappa. 'Kaizer Chiefs bigger than Bafana' says Italian brand boss
Kaizer Chiefs supporters are beyond delighted. Ricky Joseph, the head of Kappa South Africa, has made a bold claim that has stirred serious debate in local football circles. Amakhosi, he said, are not only the biggest club in Africa, but are even bigger than the South African national team, Bafana Bafana. The boss of Italy's legendary sports brand, Kappa, made the statement during the launch of the latest club jersey for the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. According to the Kappa SA leader, the Amakhosi fanbase deserves admiration for its loyalty and sheer scale. Josephs believes the Soweto giants' influence reaches beyond football and into the very fabric of South African identity. Surprisingly, the comments arrived soon after Bafana Bafana renewed public support following their semi-final finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. However, Joseph believes Kaizer Chiefs' cultural and commercial reach exceeds even that of the national side. Kaizer Chiefs, despite recent struggles on the field, continue to dominate when it comes to brand power, shirt sales, and fan engagement. With millions of supporters across the country and beyond, Joseph insists the club's influence is simply unmatched. Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung believes the club's new Kappa kit and strategic direction signal the dawn of a bold new era for Amakhosi. In a candid press briefing at Naturena on Monday morning, she laid bare the club's ambitions, preparations, and unwavering belief that Amakhosi are on the brink of a new golden era — one stitched not only into their freshly unveiled jersey, but woven deep into the club's strategic DNA. The jersey launch was more than a nod to aesthetics. For Motaung, it represents a return to heritage and intent. 'It's bold, it's African, it's combat-ready,' she said of the new Kappa kit. 'The collar takes us back to our roots, while the African print sleeves say we're ready to fight on the continent.' The new Kaizer Chiefs kit for the upcoming season. Next Stay Close ✕ And fight they must — Kaizer Chiefs have their eyes set on reclaiming dominance not just locally, but across Africa. The pre-season tour to The Netherlands was, according to Motaung, a resounding success. Based in the quiet town of Apeldoorn, it allowed the technical team to bond and the players — both seasoned and youth — to connect on and off the pitch. 'The environment was serene, perfect for focus,' she said, praising the hunger shown by the youth players and the vital exposure to quality opposition. The tour also reaffirmed the club's international pull, with supporters travelling from across Europe — including Manchester and Berlin—to watch the team. Central to this season's build-up is the Toyota Cup, where Chiefs are set to take on Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko. For Motaung, this clash is not just a warm-up — it's a statement. 'It's very important for us to win,' she asserted. 'It sets the tone for the season. Every competition, every game is about winning — doing it the Chiefs way.' Off the pitch, Motaung also paid tribute to the club's founder and chairman, Kaizer Motaung, who was recently awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Cape Town. The wait is over! The Jersey Doesn't Just Play, It Represents!#Amakhosi4Life | #KCKappa | #KCJersey | @kappa_sa — Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) July 21, 2025 'It was a significant and emotional moment,' she said, praising his pioneering contribution to the business of football, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his commitment to a strong, sustainable local league. 'It's what's going to take our country forward,' she noted. Beyond the men's game, Chiefs have quietly but intentionally deepened their investment in women's football through a growing partnership with Springs Home Sweepers. 'They're young, passionate, and part of our family,' Motaung explained, confirming full commercial, administrative and technical support. 'This is just the beginning. We're playing our part in growing women's football.' On the transfer front, Motaung was tight-lipped, particularly regarding rumoured interest in players from Cape Town Spurs and Mamelodi Sundowns. 'We have a professional process. We'll announce when it's complete,' she said. 'Any new signings go through a full integration — on and off the field — into the Chiefs culture.' She also reinforced the club's commitment to being a truly national brand, confirming that while FNB Stadium remains their home ground, Chiefs will continue to play select fixtures at Moses Mabhida and other venues around the country. 'South Africa is our home,' she affirmed. Her message to the Amakhosi faithful was one of inclusion and gratitude. From sending supporters to Europe with Vodacom, to life-changing competitions with Toyota and SuperSportBET, the club remains intentional about giving back. 'Our supporters are the lifeblood of this club. We want them with us every step of the way.'
