Demand to relocate aerospace park to NK

Hubballi: The Karnataka BJP industrial cell has called upon the state govt to relocate the planned aerospace park from Devanahalli to the Hubballi-Dharwad area in North Karnataka, following the suspension of land acquisition in Devanahalli due to farmers' protests. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now During a press conference in Hubballi on Monday, Narendra Kulkarni, co-convener of the Karnataka BJP industrial cell, stated, "In the interest of farmers in Devanahalli, the state withdrew its decision to acquire land for the aerospace park. We appeal to the govt to now consider Hubballi-Dharwad for this major project, which would bring immense employment and development opportunities to the region." Kulkarni noted that the aerospace park would generate substantial employment opportunities, particularly in engineering and technical fields. "Alongside the park, infrastructure like housing, malls, hotels, warehouses, and transport facilities would also develop. Small and medium industries will get a big boost, and international companies may show interest in investing here," he said. Previously, the govt intended to acquire 1,777 acres near Bengaluru for the project, but strong farmer resistance led to its cancellation. "With Bengaluru already facing overpopulation and congestion, and neighbouring states actively attracting such industrial projects, we must ensure Karnataka retains this opportunity by shifting it to North Karnataka," Kulkarni stated. The Hubballi-Dharwad region's proximity to Maharashtra and Goa borders, combined with existing private aerospace component manufacturers, makes it suitable. Belagavi, situated nearby, contains significant Army and Air Force facilities. Additionally, the ongoing Rs 380 crore expansion of Hubballi airport aims to achieve international standards. The region offers sufficient govt land through the land bank scheme. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The Belur industrial area near Tata Marcopolo is particularly suitable for the park," Kulkarni indicated. He stressed that establishing the aerospace park in North Karnataka would promote balanced regional industrial development, enhance educational prospects, and boost local employment. Additionally, he requested the govt to implement a special industrial package alongside the park development. Srimant Dhangar, Chandrakant Gadakari, Mtutyunjaya Murol, Mahantesh Batli, and other office bearers were present at the press conference.

K'taka BJP slams Siddarmaiah govt over shortage of fertilizers in state

The Karnataka BJP has launched attack on the Congress led government in Karnataka over shortage of supply of urea fertilizer and creating crisis for farmers in the critical cultivation phase. Speaking to the media at BJP's state office, Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru, N. Ravikumar, Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, stated: "In the past, to prevent fertilizer shortage for farmers and to avoid financial difficulties for the state government in purchasing fertilizers, a buffer stock fund of Rs 1,000 crore was set aside. However, under the current Congress government, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has allocated only Rs 400 crore for maintaining buffer stock for fertilizers. How will farmers get adequate fertilizer with such a reduced amount." Ravikumar alleged that the Congress government has failed to provide timely supply of urea fertilizer to the farmers, prompting the BJP to call for statewide protests. He pointed out that in North and South Karnataka, crops such as ragi, jowar, maize, and green gram require fertilizers. However, the state government is failing to ensure timely supply of urea. Green manure availability is low in north Karnataka, and farmers there rely heavily on urea. They are now facing severe hardship due to the shortage, he said. Due to heavy rainfall across all districts, there is a surge in crop sowing activity. Farmers are saying that if fertilizers are applied now, yields will improve; otherwise, the crops may fail. He accused the government of ignoring farmers' grievances. Thousands of farmers are lining up at fertiliser distribution centres in each taluk and district, he stated, urging the government to immediately supply urea. Ravikumar further said the Congress government failed to promote nano urea as an alternative to conventional urea. It should have created awareness among farmers to use nano urea in the absence of regular urea but it did not. The government is also not providing subsidies for the machines required to spray nano urea. Distribution of bio-fertilisers, which absorb nitrogen from the air and transfer it to the soil, has also been reduced. No aid has been given to farmers to produce green manure either. The Siddaramaiah-led government has completely neglected farmers, he charged. Cattle numbers are decreasing, and instead of supporting livestock farmers, the government appears to be helping cattle thieves. No support has been provided for dairy farming. Even the incentive for milk producers has been stopped, causing farmers to suffer even more, Ravikumar charged. Farmers are not being given quality fertilizers. Private companies are supplying substandard seeds, leading to poor crop outcomes. Despite good rainfall this season, if quality seeds and fertilizers are not provided, the sowing season will be lost, resulting in crop failure. The government has completely ignored the farmers, Ravikumar asserted. During the BJP governments led by B.S. Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai, farmers were provided a total of Rs 10,000 under the Kisan Samman scheme — Rs 6,000 from the Centre and Rs 4,000 from the state. The current Congress government has stopped the Rs 4,000 state aid, doing injustice to farmers, he alleged. Regarding drought relief, he pointed out that the Centre had released Rs 3,454 crore, but not a single paisa has been spent for the benefit of farmers. The funds have been diverted for other purposes, he alleged, accusing the Congress government of betraying the farmers. BJP Kisan Morcha state vice-president Rudresh, Bengaluru North district Kisan Morcha president G.J. Murthy, and Bengaluru Central district president Rudrappa were present at the press meet.

Siddaramaiah Has Done More For Mysuru Than Iconic King Krishnaraja Wodeyar: Son

Bengaluru: Even as talk of a leadership change in Karnataka is yet to completely die down, Congress Member of Legislative Council and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son Yathindra Siddaramaiah has given his father a huge endorsement, saying his contributions could be more even than an erstwhile ruler of Mysuru, who is credited with ushering in progressive reforms during the pre-Independence era. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Yathindra Siddaramaiah said development works in the Mysuru region taken up by the Congress government during the tenure of his father equal, or are probably even more than, those by Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar. "Apart from the funds allocated during Siddaramaiah's tenure as Chief Minister, Mysuru has not received any significant funding. Our government under Siddaramaiah has carried out as much, if not more, development than what was done during Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar's time. Therefore, the opposition's claim that we have done nothing and are holding the 'Sadhana Samavesha' event here without reason is baseless and hollow," Yathindra Siddaramaiah said. The remarks came in response to a series of statements made by Karnataka BJP leaders, including state unit president BY Vijayendra, who claimed the event was less about showcasing achievements and more about political manoeuvring. "The Sadhana Samavesha is not to commemorate the chief minister's achievements or to highlight development in the Mysuru region. It is being used as a tool to threaten the high command," Mr Vijayendra claimed, hinting at internal power tussles within the Congress. He had also questioned the government's decision to hold such a high-profile event in Mysuru, claiming there was no visible progress in the region to justify it. At the event, the state government unveiled projects worth over Rs 2,500 crores for Mysuru district. 'Apologise' Yathindra Siddaramaiah's remarks were criticised by BJP leader R Ashoka who said that, by making the comparison with his father, the Congress leader had insulted King Wodiyar's family. "Contributions of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodiyar to Old Mysore are immense. He built the KRS (Krishna Raja Sagara) reservoir and provided life-giving water, enabling people to prosper. He also built soap factories, universities, and upheld social justice," Mr Ashoka, who is also the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, said. "Comparing someone who pawned gold jewellery to build a reservoir with those who looted 14 sites in MUDA (a reference to the alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority scam) is unacceptable. Yathindra Siddaramaiah has insulted the Maharaja's family and must apologise immediately," he said.

‘Wake up Karnataka government': Fields ready, but where is urea, asks BJP

BENGALURU: A shortage of urea and fertilisers threatens to derail a promising sowing season blessed by generous monsoon rains in Karnataka. What should have been a season of hope has quickly turned into one of anger and despair, triggering sharp attacks from farmers, politicians, and agricultural experts alike — who accuse the Congress-led State Government of apathy and administrative failure. Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra was among the first to raise the red flag. 'The rains have come, the fields are ready, but where is the urea, where are the fertilisers?' he said. 'Farmers are being betrayed by a system that should have ensured seamless supply. The government must wake up... this is the peak season and any delay is a death blow to the crop,' he said. Leader of the Opposition in the Council Chalavadi Narayanswamy said that the State Government cannot keep hiding behind lame excuses. 'If there is no shortage, why are farmers standing in kilometre-long queues and returning empty-handed? Where is the stock they claim to have?' he asked. Academia also joined the chorus. Former UAS-Bengaluru professor Dr Prakash Kammardi, an expert in agricultural economics, slammed the state's preparedness. 'It is elementary economics. Good rains mean immediate fertiliser demand. Why wasn't the agriculture department ready? This is nothing short of administrative sleepwalking,' he said.

Factional feud escalates in state BJP

Bengaluru: Factional politics within the Karnataka BJP is reaching new heights, with both camps taking their internal battles to the national capital. While supporters of BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra recently visited Delhi to lodge complaints against the opposing faction, the anti-Vijayendra camp is now preparing for its own Delhi trip next week. Last week, a team led by MP Renukacharya met BJP disciplinary committee chief Om Pathak in Delhi, submitting a complaint regarding a separate rally organized in Davanagere without party approval. Now, the faction opposing Vijayendra — including MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi, former ministers Aravind Limbavali and Kumar Bangarappa — is preparing to head to Delhi. They are expected to be joined by former MP G.M. Siddeshwara and MLA B.P. Harish. Their core agenda: pressuring the party high command to replace B.Y. Vijayendra as the state BJP president. The group also plans toraise concerns under the pretext of submitting a report on alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Karnataka. The team has already conducted field visits across Bengaluru, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu to gather details. The report is expected to be submitted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. With the Parliament session beginning on Monday, the group is strategizing meetings based on the availability of senior ministers. Their goal is to increase pressure at a critical juncture when the BJP is reportedly considering a leadership change in the state. The internal power struggle has clearly spilled over into Delhi, and all eyes are now on how the party leadership will handle this deepening rift.
